As it stands we have 4 picks in the Nat Draft, #4, #26, #28, whatever we use on Jacob Brennen.

If the mail is right and we Retire Hansen and Bones we will have 2 picks in the ND.
Would J.Jacky and Mark Hutchings who have both been delisted by Adelaide and Stkilda be worth a Punt??

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

IN: 4, 26, 28, Brennan, Strijk, Wilson
OUT: 2 Vets, Notte, Wilkes, Mckinley and Spangher (hopefully)

It'd be very hard to cover more than one forced retirement within the salary cap. We'd probably just continue with the set up we used for covering Stinger's retirement. Ash Hansen would proably be the first choice but I wouldn't be surprised if it was Nicoski who did and was given a coaches role.

Why would WC pick up Hutchings when they overlooked him in the ROOKIE draft last year

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

Im pretty sure what the OP is suggesting is retiring the players at third list lodgement (post ND). The other thing to remember when retiring players at this stage when they have 1 year remaining on their contracts is the only thing extra it costs on the salary cap is the match payment structure compensation that goes into their payouts.

I think hansen will retire and although i still think bones is worth a list spot i would prefer stevenson if he makes it that far. I would prefer nikoski gone but i think the club will keep him.

Say they both retire i would be looking at jarryd blair with our first psd and stevenson with our second.

Look to see who misses out on the national draft first.

Sam Menagola, Hayden Yarran, Kirk Ugle would jump on one of them first.

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

Jarrad Blight or Bust.

Was very highly rated by a lot of people at Collingwood but was VERY homesick.

He is exactly the type of player we need - kid could become anything

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

From what I have heard Blight's form in the VFL wasn't all that great. Collingwood fans say he went backwards from a promising first year. He is no lock to be picked up by an AFL club.

Jacky could be a rookie list option but we should have no interest in Hutchings.

Why Stevenson? He has good disposal but doesn't get the ball all that much. In my view he has a long way to go. If either of Nikoski or Hansen go then I'd be happy to keep him but he has been a long term development player who at this stage just doesn't get enough of the ball and he needs to improve a lot more to warrant a place. Jones on the other hand is a proven player who adds much needed experience for the moment.

If you compare where stevenson was at the end of 09 to the end of '10 then im not sure you could contemplate cutting him.

Was injured for a lot of the year, and will without a doubt attract attention from a lot of clubs. But the fact he declined a prelisting with GC suggests he only wants to be one place, Perth. This is confirmed by many people close to Jarrad.

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

Any danger of picking up Notte again or have we cut our losses?
If he agreed to it I think we could have dropped him to the rookie list inder the new rules (with his consent).

If that's the case, you'd think it's unlikely he'll be back.

AFAIK that was the plan larri. The AFL was keen for the change in ruling but the AFLPA vetoed it because they thought it would give players less security within their careers. Yet another recent decision by the afl that is giving us the ol pounding in the mucker.

We can have 9 rookies this year, correct? So 2 are taken with vets, leaving 7 possies? We only have JON, Hams, Stevo?, anyone else? So 4 possies left? Maybe we'll rookie him, but .......

Pick up Blight in this years PSD/ Rookie or we will end up using a pick in the 2011 National Draft. Bookmark it.

Gets allot of it on the Wings in the WAFL. Doesn't get allot of the half backline in the AFL. It's no suprise he needs to improve, name a 21 year old player that doesn't. Too much upside to pass up. Lets hope we can make a few spaces.

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

Am I the only person who saw the artical on afl.com about Saints and Coll (iirc) being interested and speaking to Notte..??? Plus Geelong have always been interested in him as well.

I think he will be in Victoria next year.
Bad for Swans, Bad for us.

Re: PSD- Jacky & Hutchings ????

Can anyone tell me why we would bother with re-rookie drafting Notte??

Finished 2011 in The Swannies reserves and couldn't get a game behind two AFL rejects at CHF or FF.

Now I know he has had is issues but if he can't make WAFL seniors after 3 years and in fact is players who we are calling to retire are playing in front of him.

I only saw him play a couple of times, 2010 scratch match he took a couple of nice marks early but that was about it, so I may have not have seen him at his best.

Surely we would be better taking our chances with an 18yo or even a proven goalkicker from state level rather than bringing Notte back in when he really has never proven himself as a goal kicker at all??

Quite happy for people to prove me wrong but with the calls around here for list turnover surely there are better options??
