I did see Sony add Castle crashers last week so I youtubed it to see what it was like and funny thing is, after watching the below video where this boring guy (Dan Paladin, Art Director) trys to tell you how cool it is, I decided I wouldn't download it even if it is free.

It goes a bit like this,
"it's 4 player but you can also play alone"
"you go through a long story, the games pretty long"
"and it's online and you can play it offline as well"
"I like to spray magic all over the place"

Check out Dans awesome sell below.

A bit late on this one, but there's a good little sale going on, on the PS Store (I think for less than a day to go now:eek:).

But there's a few good discounts going.

For those that got into Burnout Paradise massively after PS+ gave it away for free during the 'everyone has free PS+' month there's all the Burnout DLC at a discount. I got Big Surf Island for $4.95 to add to my love for all things Burnout!

There's a bunch of different games for sale, some good, some average.

The best on offer (IMO) is the Back to the Future 5 Episode pack for just $15.95 (50% off regular price), which I did snap up too.:D

Also, if you're into the Telltale Games, 'Strong Bad's Cool Game for Attractive People' is insanely funny and only $12.95 down from $23.95. Another Telltale Games production in 'Sam & Max: The Devil's Playhouse' is 50% off for $19.95 and they are giving the first episode away for free regardless of purchase (you get 5 eps for the $19.95 purchase).

Finished Dead Nation tonight.

It's a pretty damn good game. I really wasn't expecting much going in after the game received only luke warm reviews. But it's a very solid game.

The shooting is crisp and very responsive, the guns are for the most part good and once you get upgrading them for the harder enemies using a variety of guns becomes paramount. And on the upgrade system, it works well as you get through the game to basically balance out with the amount of zombies that come at you.

In reading the IGN review there's a couple of things that I really don't get. And I generally like Greg Miller and his reviews, but this is one that I really, for the most part can't agree with what he says is wrong with the game. That's not to say there's nothing wrong with it, in fact I feel the game has more clearly defined issues than most games, but what is pointed out in the IGN review as faults doesn't seem to really ring true with what I at least felt was wrong with the game.

First off is that the review says the game has 'extreme difficulty spikes' and that this is an issue. The thing being that the difficulty spikes are there to counter the fact that there are no true boss battles. So in effect the difficulty spikes are taking care of the no boss battles and while they're probably higher in number than the boss battles would be, the fact that you get thrown a ton of enemies at once several times adds heaps to the fun of the game.

Also the review has a go at the story of the game. Really there's such a lack story put into the game by Housemarque that I can't really believe or see where/why this would be an issue in the review. Yes you don't care for the character and there's nothing much doing in the story, but that's what's going to happen when the story cutscenes are about 10-20 seconds before each of the 10 chapters. It's hardly an issue.

As for what I see as faults and what could be fixed for a potential sequel. Adding more to the melee feature of the game, it's just a basic swipe and it's quite hard to nail properly. Expanding on the melee just as you can with the guns would make for more not only more choices to spend your funds but also would help add more to that feature.

Also a changing up of the environments. Even though for a high majority of the game the environments are drenched in darkness only to really be lit up by your torch on the end of your gun, there's a significant amount of industrial and/or street walking going on. Maybe a change up to the jungle or something like one of the parts in the game where you ride on a barge and shoot at enemies in the water on sunken ships and such.

Anyway, Dead Nation is a pretty damn decent game. Anyone who picked it up in the Welcome Back package would be worth checking it out. Took me 6 hours, 27 minutes and 24 seconds to finish the game and I took out 11,818 zombies for the cause (2035 of which came in the epic last level). Now I'm gonna give it a go in co-op once Camo gets settled.:thumbsu:

Finished Dead Nation tonight.
And perhaps from Dead Nations popularity post-PSN Down. Dead Nation is getting it's first piece of DLC.

Very much anticipating this now.

DEAD NATION ROAD OF DEVASTATION DLC ANNOUNCED

From the ashes of the apocalypse, an organization has worked in the shadows, tampering with the human gene, modifying and improving upon it to create the perfect soldier, the ultimate zombie-killing machine – you! Continuing from the events where the original game left off (or, is it actually the other way around…), Road of Devastation will put your skills to the ultimate test. You’ll find yourself waking up in a laboratory with only one way out. Outside the door you’re presented with a choice – a crossroads leading to three different paths, each with their own unique environments, challenges and enemies waiting for you. If you manage to overcome the challenges, just when you think it’s over, you’ll make a startling revelation…

In addition to the range of enemies and weapons you’re already familiar with from the original game, Road of Devastation will present you with a variety of new tools and equipment to dispose of enemies with, while also introducing new enemies and obstacles you’ll encounter in unique new environments.

Costume Quest -
So much better than I'd have thought it could be.
Free for PS+
Haloween/Trick or Treat in a semi open world environment.

The costumes all have basic abilities to help you progress. Solving a few puzzles and high scoring in mini games, trick or treating all the houses will score points & candy which can be traded for powerups.
Then comes the battles (and eventually boss battles) vs monsters. Wasn't expecting it to play out like this when it happened.
Here the costumes evolve in what can best be described as child like imagination vs pokemon special powers etc.
Once you add on a booster or two (like counter attack for successful defends) and figure out what to do in the fairly simple fights, they're quite awesome to play.

When fighting multiple enemies you can pick on one of them so you only face one attack. When it's your turn you choose what attack to carry out (or generate health/shield if XP is low)
The cinematics of these battles are epicly cool & cute. I have a real like for the story & character already.
Only downside is no map or hint system and I've been a bit lost for what to do a few times. Doesn't take long to figure it out. I'm one to refer to guides if I'm stuck (ie Stacking game) but I haven't had to do that so far so decent gamers shouldn't have any troubles.

There is a new fps game coming out as downloadable content very soon, called Gotham City Impostors. The beta in the US is out right now. Downloaded it the other day, had a few games and looks like it's gonna be a shitload of fun.

I believe the beta might be available in a couple of days here. A wiki article about the game here

A video of the gameplay also. I will be buying it, hope a few of you will buy it too so we can party up in this.

Oh ok cool. I thought it was a good laugh, looks like it's pretty customisable, down to what your character looks like. You going to give it a crack?

I give everything a crack...as shown by this thread.:D

But yeah I will, likely jump on tomorrow (/to)night. Hopefully camo can get on too (as I know he's played some already).

Maybe get a mini-BF party going.;)

yeh i enjoyed my little go last night a lot however got nothing but red bar connections and the game lobby matchmaking is damn horrible!
having it be a 5 on 2 match when you're already being owned on connection isn't great though i was still having fun due to just mucking around and enjoying the wacky nature of the game.

control set-up is the same as cod and the game modes have a bit of a twist to them which is quite cool/humorous though matches are over far too quickly. (bigfooty parties would romp a lobby in under 2 mins every game.)
the responsiveness of the controls are pretty poor when you compare to a cod but not completely horrible.....

depending on price and who on here gets it i might end up getting but i don't really know about the longevity of the game as people generally get over psn shooters pretty quickly as the cods and battlefields of the world dominate.
this one does seem to have a bit of an x-factor about it though so we'll see.

Had a few games of Gotham City Impostors tonight, a few with Camo too (the party system is SHIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIITE - doesn't really inform you that you're in a party, just leaves you on the main menu if you're not party leader. When party leader searches you have no idea that they are, finally when they find a room you get put in, but aren't always on the same team).

It's fun, but the novelty was wearing off fairly fast for me.

There are a lot of neat ideas in place and the gameplay is fairly fast and frenetic. The controls are decent if not a tiny bit swirly. Hitmarkers could do with a bump up though and maybe like COD have a sound as it's hard to tell if you're hitting people as the hitmarkers aren't overly visible.

I like the streets map but not the Amusement Mile one, that seems to be a bit choke pointy. While the streets map has a nicer flow to it.

The difference from 2 bars to 3 bars (didn't get 1 though which was good) is ENORMOUS though. Maybe it was just the way I was handling it, but basically I was going .2-.5 on 2 bars then when 3 bars rolled around I went 2 K/D and it felt amazing.

Really enjoyed the voice over work throughout either when you die or from the PA when you're capping bases or winning the game, etc. Got a good fun and jokey vibe to it.

Bases take FAR too long to capture too. And the time to capture doesn't go down with more people on the base, which is very annoying and doesn't exactly promote team play.

Probably not on my buy list right now, but it was fun enough to keep around for a bit longer. Well worth a go for anyone looking for an alternative to COD too.

In 11 days the follow up (not sequel) to the incredible 2009 PSN release Flower will hit the PSN Store.

Journey, the 3rd and potentially final PSN exclusive from 'thatgamecompany'.

IGN have their review up now, giving it a score of 9.0 (remembering that usually IGN gives their ratings in line with same format titles, so being downloadable that's why the graphics may be a 10 - although it does look damn gorgeous so it could be a genuine 10).

Closing Comments

Those of you that played Flower might notice that Journey mirrors many of its predecessor’s emotional milestones. Journey celebrates the poignancy of nature, it startles you with the unexpected, and empowers you in an exhilarating, unforgettable conclusion.

The hours spent completing Journey will create memories that last for years.

10 Presentation
Seamless and stunning.

10 Graphics
Worthy of the highest praise, from color and lighting to the awe-inspiring spectacle.

10 Sound
Breathtaking score and brilliant use of effects.

8.0 Gameplay
Simple. More a clever tool to invoke emotion than a traditional, rewarding system.

7.0 Lasting Appeal
Short, but a fitting length. Exploration rewards returning travelers with secrets and some interesting Trophies.

OVERALL 9.0

Picked up and finished Journey today, took around about 3 hours I'd say. Though I wasn't timing it, felt thereabouts.

I think the review above basically covers most of my thoughts, absolutely brilliant game.

The stark difference in 'story' from Flower to Journey really stands out. Journey doesn't seem to necessarily have the same hard driven message that Flower did. It's really about the Journey than telling a moral about the actual world we live in...unless I missed something.:p Looking back at it too, the IGN review is absolutely spot on about the emotional milestones, the themes and style of the game is basically matched exactly.

Starting off relatively slow for the first hour, ramping up in the 2nd and then going quite dark in the 3rd.

I loved the little online interactions that work like a very stripped down form of Demon's/Dark Souls, although slightly disappointing that they can activate sections in the world to unlock the 'puzzles'. But then I doubt it'd work if it wasn't like that.

Also, graphically, I am going to say that this is the best I've ever seen on a console. The art style and lighting is used to absolute perfection and there's a visual fidelity to things like the sand (and another 'ground' that I won't spoil) that you can't help but marvel at. Insanely this game is a mere 591MB, that's some great compression.

Passing Uncharted 3 is a tough ask, but I feel this does it simply because I couldn't stop thinking how ****ing amazing it looked at every single turn. Rayman Origins would definitely come close too, I've played the demo and my god does that have some of the sharpest visuals of all time.

Sound was also a big part this time around. I don't really remember a whole lot of the sound being a huge factor in Flower, there was the obvious riffs when activating another flower on your path, but nothing that really drove home the feel of the game like this does. There's some absolute booming sounds that with headsets on make it sound like your house is falling down.

It may be $20, but I couldn't recommend this game more.

Although if you're using this as a trophy whore game, stay away. Only got 3/14 in my first run through and really couldn't see many, if any getting all 14 legitimately (one sounds next to impossible).

I'll get it for sure.
Flower gave a sense of doing something right. Retribution for all we've done to the earth I guess. I loved it till the wind kept blowing me directions I didn't want to go. I finished it, just didn't unlock everything. It was still an enjoyable game though.

PSN sale of some really good games went up early today. Well worth picking some of these up.

Take note of the discount for PS+ Subscribers. I got Flow for 3.86 or something, now I have the complete TGC set.:D

Lara Croft and the Guardian of Light is also very much recommended. One of the best games on the PSN by a mile.

Probably would have got the Sly trilogy if Sly 1 wasn't free wth PS+ this month.

I remember paying $99.95 for Sly 1 at target when it was a new release.
Seems to be easier than I remember but I'm only a few levels in.

Are they ever going to bring console DLC pricing in line with PC pricing? Ridiculous prices there if that's supposedly a 'sale' price...

Gave my 2nd run through of Journey today a go.

I went in with the specific intent to get the trophy for playing through a majority of the game with someone else. The process of which is extremely hard as you first need to hope people are jumping into your game and then on top of that, that they're willing to play along with you when you have almost no way of telling them to stick around.

Well, I managed to do it...and I have to say, one of the most amazing experiences, just ever.

Also, weirdly and I don't know if this is by virtue of playing through the game once before, but I managed to skip a whole section of the game basically right at the start.

But yeah, playing through most of the game with someone is amazing and it's completely different to how you can play through it without.

Every turn you're making sure the other person is there and doing the right thing, also trying to alert them to those glowing white glyph things. It's just really awesome overall.

I've heard stories about people and losing companions through their Journey, I almost did it right at the end, losing them when the action got fast. But when I reached the summit RIGHT at the end, the other guy was waiting there for me...I dunno, it may sound super stupid and all that, but it's an incredibly touching moment as well, as I had done the same while going through some of the tougher parts.

I've sent a message to each person I met throughout the game (7) to ask if they were the one I played through it with, as I'd like to see what they're experience was too.

Huge month of PS+ this month. About 10 PSN games for free.

The big 2, personally, Awesomnauts and Max Payne.

Max Payne only because I was going to go back and play through it on PC, but seeing as I don't have a controller for PC it would've been awkward as hell. Now I get to play it on a console. Even though it's no HD upgrade or anything, it's still going to be awesome going back and seeing what made this series so awesome right before the newest comes out.

And Awesomenauts looks like a neat little 2D brawler with interesting online integration.

There's also these 8 games that are free, I think the quality of the titles does vary a bit, but still, 8 free games:
6963552252744a40f913.jpg

Also going to be a 20% discount on eerie PS Move game Datura later this month. I'm really looking forward to seeing what that's about.

Does anyone know if I can get Crash Team Racing for PAL? I dont think it has been released on the Australian PSN, so is it possible for me to make like a European account and buy it that way?

Thanks in advance
