Toast Pubs & Bars near Adelaide Oval for pre and post game drinks

Anyone know what happened with The Curious Squire... closed for the fringe but no sign of them since.

It was noisy and overpriced. Wing specials were pretty good though.

It was always relatively full on game days, I guess off-season kills them.

I mean, that hotel right at the end of O'Connell has been shut for years. I wish Port would get into it. Perfect spot close to AO.
What shut down pub are you talking about?

There's also a Thirsty Camel on Bank St which is on the route to the oval if you park at the Topham St carpark. Not suggesting that you should drop in and buy a hipflask of Jacks, Beam or Johnnie for $20 to smuggle into the ground, but it's worth know it's there. For other reasons.

I think he means this place, opposite the Squire:

It was called the O Hotel, by the looks. Just a pokie room with a small dining and bar area, really.

The Gilbert is my local. Bloody brilliant pub and Luke is definitely a Port man and not afraid to voice his opinions either.

Work just down the road, it's an absolute ripper.

If people are looking for a pre-game meal, this might be worth a look

Wurst & Stein on Grenfell Street is great if you love Steins of piss.

Kaffana Bar on Gilbert Place is amazing food.

Wonder if we could get some collective Bigfooty deals at these places.

I’ve always thought something like this could work. Like supporter groups in soccer. Get a venue, become regular patrons and then gets some deals going.

Zambreros on Bank Street used to have specials on game day between certain times. $6 “Mexican” beers (think they have pale too). Can grab a bite to eat and a drink before the game. Only downside is that the drink has to be consumed inside and the place is small, but I’ve never had too many issues getting a seat.

After a feed then we head to the bar. Last year my choice was the casinos outdoor garden area, also $6 coopers there I believe. During the final last year they jacked up the price (scumbags). Other than that it’s a decent venue.

That venue seems to be cursed. No one since the original Cibo guys seem to be able to make it work in the long term.

Damn I miss that Cibo restaurant. Best Linguine Granchio ever.

Kaffana burger on Peel st (best burgers in Adelaide by far) shut months ago, unless it's reopened?! I'm talking about their semi permanent looking setup on decking not their fancy new setup inside with rooftop bar.

R Bar for me. Duke of York on Currie has a decent outdoor area. No idea of prices though. Lady Burra on Topham Mall if I'm feeling cashed up. They will be opening a new rooftop joint on the corner of Topham and Currie later this year which could be a winner.

Thought I'd get this started to compile a list of good spots to meet, eat, drink, and generally be a nusiance at, before and after games at Adelaide Oval.

First one that comes to mind for me is The Ed Castle.

The Ed Castle on Currie St has a great beer garden and is within walking distance to the ground. Not too close that it gets packed out but close enough to find a park and make your way their in time for the game. Added benefit is you're coming from the west so crossing Morphett St bridge and down Memorial Drive means you miss the crush on the bridge.

Ed Castle is also owned by a big Port man, Tony Bond in partnership with Swans tragic Simon Modra.

Mods: any chance we could get this stickied for a few rounds to get the ball rolling?

used to love the ed when the drag queens were on

The only place that I’ve been to that comes close to the GDV is Regattas on the riverbank. Full of port supporters and big outside beer garden facing Adelaide oval. Haven’t been to the North Adelaide drinking establishments though.
