Hopefully I'll get to see you at the GF again Salim :)

Maaaaaaan. I just watched the "Last time they met" video on the freo app. Gave me goosebumps. I remember the emotion of that night. The crowd was unbelievable !!! I couldn't believe it. Hope we can do it again.

I mentioned this stat over on the Sydney board in response to someone saying "Fremantle have only beaten one top 8 team away from home, Richmond. Of their 6 losses, 5/6 were against fellow finalists":

Of Sydney's 5 losses, 4/5 were in Sydney.

Actually, when you compare the similar games the two sides have played, I believe beating Port in Port is the only thing Sydney have done which we haven't, yet had the opportunity to do.

...O and beating the Saints (but then we beat GWS and Collingwood).

Looking at the top 8:

Both teams lost to Hawks away and beat them at home*
Both teams beat Geelong at home (Sydney didn't have to play them away)
Sydney beat Fremantle in Sydney.
Both teams played Port twice, Sydney for 2 wins, Fremantle for a win and loss
Both teams lost to NM on their respective home grounds
Both teams beat Essendon (Sydney did this twice, Fremantle only once at home)
Both teams beat Richmond away, Sydney lost to Richmond at home

Games played against fellow finalists (Home or Away):
______HAWKS___GEE___PORT___NM___ESS___RICH
SYD____2*____1(H)____2_____1(H)___2_____2
FRE_____2_______2_____2 _____1(H)__1(H)__1(A)

Sydney have actually had a far easier run than Fremantle this season when you look at the final makeup of the 8

Looks like you are home and hosed then, load up on the Dockers everyone.

My point is that the original post on the sydney board is a bs stat, that hides the truth of the season i.e we play 2 games against Hawks and Geelong, you played only 1. No wonder your record against fellow finalists looks better than ours.

Actually we played hawks twice. Won at home.

You know what ? I need to vent here !! I live in Sydney and the thing that shits me to tears is that all you supporters think that just because you have Tippett and Franklin that you are guaranteed a premiership !! Cocky as anything during the offseason and then when you lost those games at the start shit hit the fan and you were all blaming buddy for ruining the culture. Now it's all fine and dandy and swans are a shoe in again. That is why I how we absolutely flog you (not that it will happen) and every other team in the AFL will be behind us.

Rant over. Go freo

Are you suggesting that statistics can be created and quoted to back up any argument? Come on! That's crazy talk

Past counts for nothing - We know where it's likely this game will be won or lost - Where it usually is - in the midfield

Really difficult debate on which team has the better midfield IMO.
If anything they've probably got better outside run but we are a bigger, stronger midfield. In the end I'm tipping our midfield to get us over the line because of Nat Fyfe.I just can't see Sydney being able to limit the damage this man is capable of inflicting.

I don't think its unfair that Sydney is confident.
They did have a good run into the finals, and rested a number of players last week.
They should be in as good a shape as possible come Saturday.

We do have momentum on our side, coming off a string of strong win against Port.
Weather, stadium appears to benefit us, so if we can beat Sydney, this week will be it.

Yeah, the battle is going to be in the midfield, which is pretty even I'll say.
I think it'll be down to a matter of who wants it more, bring the most effort and can kick straighter.

Does anyone actually think we will be able to stop Sydney's forwards ? I know the whole game will be "Won in the midfield" stuff. And the whole "we have a scary forward line too" and the "Rain will play into our hands" But let's assume that they do smash us in the clearances. Can our backline stop Tippett, Franklin, Goodes and Reid ? Honest answer ?

On other boards a lot of people are saying that losing 2 AA defenders is tipping point this year due to the strength of Sydney and Hawk forwards

I'm starting to feel nervous

Silva and Zac will be given a job and they will do it.

As long as the ball hits the ground we'll give them a bloody good run for their money.

Don't be a sad sack in finals :)

No, of course we won't be able to completely stop Sydney's big forwards. Just as we couldn't stop Schulz kicking 6, Buddy might kick 6. We'll still win the game though, just like vs Port.

Every month of the year in Sydney has an average of between 10.5 and 14 days of rain. It is a very rainy place. Sydney averages 143 rain days per year - (Seattle is variously quoted as 140 to 154).

Forget analysing rain in Sydney. Every game scheduled here is rain affected. If it is not raining during the game, the ground will probably still be wet from yesterday's rain.

Yeah but the bluest skies you've ever seen are in Seattle.

Onya Henny Penny. Reality is, if they get clean, fast ball into their forward line we are in a world of trouble. AA defenders wouldn't have a hope. The good news is, we do have a great midfield, it is going to be wet, and our forward line/ counter attack is second to none. Oh, and we've got Ross.

Here is a more important question...

Will Sydney's tall forward line be able to stop the run of Sutcliffe, Duffield, Spurr, Ibbotson and Mzungu? A too-tall forward line can be risky.

David King," if freo have to rely on Dawson & silvagni to stop buddy & Tippett freo will get pumped.Freo will have 18 players defending Sydney's forward line"
