Horne-Francis rotates between midfield/forward so occasionally could he be assigned to Dangerfield.

I'd absolutely love that particular match-up if that was the case. JHF has a propensity to lose his temper when he gets beaten and the last bloke you want him on is someone like Dangerfield who only knows one way.

That would be such a good matchup. Danger could still monster him. Master vs Apprentice stuff.

in a game that he was isolated 1 out in the forward 50 because we turned the ball over with monotonous regularity.

Kolo is our best lock down defender, and can definitely play on smallish forwards. Rioli is crafty, but not necessarily quick. Kolo can handle him if we give him half a chance with midfield pressure.

He was isolated because Port deliberately isolated that specific matchup.

I do agree that Kolo can play on small forwards but only marking smalls like Jamie Elliott. Ground level smalls like Rioli give him trouble because his agility isn’t great.

I’d like to see Guthrie given first crack. He’s more agile and can hurt him the other way because Rioli is unfit and lazy.

Rioli is not lazy, or unfit.

Zuthrie playing on him would rob us of our best rebound defender. With Stewart playing midfield we can’t afford that.

Scotty on 360 basically saying "last time we played them the guys playing midfield will be playing elsewhere"

Bit of a back hander

It's just honest. Bruhn, Dangerfield, Bowes, Holmes and Stewart attended 92 centre bounces between them on the weekend. They attended 0 against Port last time.

We really just don't have a good match up for Rioli.

Zuthrie has come along leaps and bounds but is still not a great 1v1 defender, especially of dynamic smalls. I agree that we need him more as a general rebounder than as a lockdown specialist anyway.

Georg, Marshall and Dixon probably pre-occupies Kolo, Henry and SDK/Blicavs. Obviously Duncan and Tuohy can't take the role. So we're running out of options.

It would be a huge ask to get Humphries to try and balance his elite rebounding with minding someone like Rioli, who slides out the back every time there's an opportunity.

I know Bews current stopping power is under question, but we may have to roll the dice on him (cooked) or Mullin (raw).

He absolutely destroyed Bobby Hill in round 18 this year while still managing 18 disposals and 8 marks himself.

He might get the nod then.

Geelong's rolling defence means it's rare for players to stay on one small the whole game anyway. But my one criticism of Guthrie during his last few seasons is he can be brushed aside in those 1v1s or fast attacking spreads where he is trying to stop a dynamic crumbing type player. I think he works better as a third man up to help nullify talls or mediums (that mark more than crumb).

Agree with all of the above. I still think he’s the best matchup for Rioli though. Shame we don’t have Boris running around anymore.
