He absolutely destroyed Bobby Hill in round 18 this year while still managing 18 disposals and 8 marks himself.

I forgot about that…and bobby hill played well in next couple of games…so it was real form…

I think a combo of Zuthrie and Kolo might be the answer to Rioli and JHF but it is a big ask

You missed the loss at Geelong v Freo?

We really just don't have a good match up for Rioli.

Zuthrie has come along leaps and bounds but is still not a great 1v1 defender, especially of dynamic smalls. I agree that we need him more as a general rebounder than as a lockdown specialist anyway.

Georg, Marshall and Dixon probably pre-occupies Kolo, Henry and SDK/Blicavs. Obviously Duncan and Tuohy can't take the role. So we're running out of options.

It would be a huge ask to get Humphries to try and balance his elite rebounding with minding someone like Rioli, who slides out the back every time there's an opportunity.

I know Bews current stopping power is under question, but we may have to roll the dice on him (cooked) or Mullin (raw).

Honestly, Rioli is a good but not great small forward. Yes, he’s had a couple of good games against us recently. But he’s not in the same ballpark as someone like Charlie Cameron from the past few years or even Stengle. He’s only ever kicked 30 goals in a season once.

He’s the kind of player we just back our team defence to stop. I’d expect Zuthrie will spend a fair bit of time with the matchup, but others will also rotate on him.

Just be careful going through Nhill. I swear that town holds up the state finances with the amount of speeding fines handed out there.

They are sneaky buggers where they sit waiting.
100 percent this. I've been done by that bugger before. Some sour old campaigner back in 2005 got me doing a few clicks too swiftly going through the roundabout.

But they recovered to beat Swans by a truckload, and have been the best performed of the top 4 teams. They are the team to beat for us next Thursday, but also in the whole finals series. IF they beat us, and they are easy favourites, they should win it this year. Likewise, if we win, I could see us going very deep in September
Lot of people underestimating port.
Was similar a few weeks ago before we played the Saints.

Imo it’s going to take a miracle to win this game.

Agree. All our GUNS would have to be at their best, with Port having an off day.
Having been to finals at AO, never again.
The home crowd is definitely a massive advantage, and it makes a difference to the enjoyment factor.
Port deserves success this year, if it comes their way- much prefer that to the Hawks going all the way.

Me too. Got $2.88 at Betfair. Could not resist.
The West Coast game could have been 140 points had we not put the cue in the rack. Up until then that was the most intense I have seen any team this season, including the Swans when they were hot.
Can't agree with that. WC were appalling, and offered little more than witches' hats in that first half. Second half they were competitive, and we lost 2 to injury

Port are good but hardly dominant.
Houston's a big loss.
It's the equivalent of Geelong missing Zuthrie and Houston tends to average 23-25 disposals per game. He usually lifts in the last quarters as well. One of their barometers of the team in that regard.
We need to be patient about the availabilities of Stewart and Humphries

Really? Almost every post I've seen says we should lose (most of them saying comfortably) but there are bits of hope we can hold onto. A few will always dare to dream.

Apologies for not just declaring it's absolutely over already and sulking for 2 weeks leading into the game.

It's 13 wins and 15 losses. Let's not do the man too dirty.

I've said it for a while that barely anything split 2nd through 13th depending on whether the given team turned up or not on the day. And then Sydney fell in a heap so you could even throw them in.

Thus the idea of "Geelong feels like a 6-8 type team" simply doesn't make sense. Every finalist feels like a 1-8 team where their best for 3-4 weeks could win a flag and their worst could see them lose any final. Trying to predict which team will hit and maintain an electric run of form is silly. We're just going to have to wait and see. It certainly could be us.
The away venue is against us, as is Port's form and and consistency in the last 2 months, and their to-die-for MF.
We always comment here about the teams that get their acts together when it counts.

And everyone agrees with that. They are saying it, and a few are saying "No you need to say it even louder and more dramatically!".

Nobody seems to be sulking, just preparing for a likely result that sees us take on HAWKS or Dogs.
Anything better than that is a thing of beauty.

You might want to check that. Heckler
28 Finals for 13 wins , 15 losses and 2 Flags.
2022 squared the ledger up quite a bit✅

Nah who are we kidding? Shut the thread down. See you all in week two.

Oh s**t, we're gonna lose that too. See you all next year.

Yes. There are comments here reflecting hope > likelihood, and there is hope.
