Why do people write 'defiantly' when they mean 'definitely'?

I see it so often, it does my head in...

Could it be blamed on auto-correct? Can't say I've actually seen it that much, but the 'bias' one, oh yes, that is everywhere!

What annoys me is people who refuse to use punctuation and capitalisation. Would it kill them to use a full stop once in a while? I'm sick of having to read their stream of consciousness posts three times before I am able to understand them.

I can't believe could of, would of and should of are used without murder being committed.

I could have used could of but it would've been wrong.

A friend going to Uni in W. A. once said that the lecturers were not too fussed with "spelling" and "grammar", just the content.
Well a few years have since gone by and I am thinking that some of these poor souls would be loose in the workforce by now.
p.s. I made the comment that I thought you would have well and truly learnt how to spell and punctuate by year 10.....apparently not.

I mark university assignments (Uni Melbourne) and I am a spelling and grammar nazi. It amazes me- people who can't put a sentence together in the final years of their 6+ years of undergraduate studies.

Isn't 'Nazi' a proper noun? :p

Yes. However, I'm not sure if it is a proper noun when used in a generic sense. As it is an analogy of nazi-ism rather than refering to actual Nazi people, I would accept either upper or lower case. Also, technically speaking, you could say that it is a loan word from German, and therefore has whatever properties we assign it, since our grammar conventions are not the same.

I was just looking through past trading periods and notice we traded pick 2012 for Shaun Renn, didn't he have 3 acl injuries before we landed him? bloody hell that must be our worst trade. Side note I guess it was destiny that we landed Burgoyne since he went at pick 12.
