Finally got to watch the whole game. Wow what a great game. Some if the skills by both sides were sensational. Chad and Robbie on a different level and loved Ryders game. Looked like he was really enjoying himself and took some important marks which we have lacked all year. Loved the tight handpassing by Sammy. Starting to adjust to pace of game and looks far more composed

Our hardness and aggression around the ball was much better. Too many teams have beaten us on that score during the year.

It's a natural part of Ah Chee's game, Impey's too. That part of Hammer's game has improved during the year. He looks in great physical shape, especially the upper part of his body, and isn't afraid to throw his weight around.

Gus was at his annoying best. Heard Sam Mitchell after the game. Said that Gus even got under Shaun's skin, something that rarely happens.

Watched the game again. Not sure how lobbe can fit in our starting 22. Sam Gray has arrived. Arch did last week but backed it up. When Gus firing, we win. Chad ceiling is scary over next few years. Robbie Gray, work in traffic - rewinded so many times . Our indigenous must be best in league and not trying to be biased

You forgot Krak. Hopefully many have learned from his experience. Happy club = happy players and we have Paul V too :)

Yeah on a second/third viewing this would just have to be the game of the year for us. We blitzed them on Anzac Day but were hanging on grimly by the end- this was a much more rounded performance. Even too... pretty much everyone put in a good shift, and so many good kids there to give hope for 2016. 400 posts above me points out who did well but I will watch this game over the off season several times I am sure.

I was sitting in the Accces One section right above this and had a good view.

Duryea gave Ryder a fair bump, but Ryder didn't appreciate it and retaliated by pushing Duryea in the head.

Shouldering a guy in the head after he's just disposed of the football isn't a 'fair bump'. Should've been a free to Ryder before he even had a chance to retaliate.

Shoulder in the head? It was a fair bump which split him straight up the middle. Where are you getting this shoulder in the head crap from? Because someone wrote that over the top of a blurry clip on youtube?

Put it this way, if Duryea had bumped Ryder in the head, then Channel 7 would've replayed it 20 times and he would've been charged by the MRP.

Whether it hit the head or not, it was clearly well after Ryder disposed of the ball.

It was off the ball, wide of screen and wasn't noticed by anyone. Throw in everyone losing their minds over Hodge and he got away with one.

Yeah, probably. But you know how it is in footy. The umpires always penalise the retaliator.

I wasn't trying to argue over what the correct decision was.

I was trying to clear up the confusion over why Duryea was awarded a free kick.

I swear you were a Sydney supporter just 5 minutes ago.... o_Oo_Oo_O

Got away with what?

Duryea's shoulder didn't get Ryder in the head

Even in that blurry clip, you can sort of see the contact was into the upper right side of Ryder's chest.

Geez, mate. Are you serious?

If Duryea's shoulder connected with Ryder's head on that bump, I don't think Paddy would've had much of a comeback.
Duryea's body is angled across slightly - his shoulder is lined up with Ryder's right shoulder
Ryder's chin is marginally closer to camera and over the back of Duryea's shoulder blade

I was sitting directly above and I'm telling you there was no head high contact. And if there was, he would've been charged despite your conspiracy theories

He makes initial contact with his head, then jumps. Well off the ball. Hence Trick retaliates. Even if it's partial contact with the head it's contact with the head.

I'm not above bringing in Oliver Stone and Kevin Costner to explain this to you.

This was one of those games where even when Hawthorn got close I still had a good feeling about it. When they got to 1 point at 3/4 time and when Arch made that howler and then Gunston goaled to get them to 10 points, even on those two occasions I was sure we'd lift again to get ourselves home. I can't think of a game we've played where the margin was never more than four goals that I was so confident about winning.

watching the replay now, for the first time since I watched it in a drunk and stoned fugue state very late last Friday night.

God Sam Mitchell is a shit player. He's always in the middle getting the ball but he just does shit things with it, every time. Suddenly the irrational hatred I've always had for him seems less irrational.
