We didn't lose because of umpiring. But McInnerney is a cheat who hates us with a passion.

I can only assume that he was the controlling umpire when McGovern blatantly and intentionally tripped Gray in the goal square at least 5 metres away from the ball when Gray was running into what would have been an open goal. Play on. :drunk:

I don't whinge about 50/50 umpiring not going our way, I only whinge when we don't get obvious ones. That was an obvious one.

Why do we never get those? That would have been a penalty in any soccer league on the planet - and it doesn't get paid in Aussie Rules when tripping by foot is a reportable offence.

We have to use yesterday's game as a line in the sand moment for season 2015. That performance is unacceptable and to many players were down on what they can do. Still livid today but we were beaten by a hungrier side on today. Time for the players to man up, and change what they are doing on the field and get back to what we do best which is run and attack the game.

On the positive, thought Gus had his best game of the year

On the negative, I know Ken wants us to be brave and take the game on, but there are times that we need to change the pace of the game, and times when we need to hang on top the ball instead going for another kamikaze handball. Don't want us going back to chippy, chippy sideways sh!t, but a bit of composure at the right time wouldn't go astray

I do think arrogance is a part of what happened yesterday, but I think it's a lesson they had to learn and the players will be better for it. I think Hinkley understands exactly what went wrong and I trust him to get them back on track.

For the people saying that premiership teams don't drop games like this - we're actually really lucky in that regard because aside from Fremantle (so far) all of them have been. Out of the finalists last year:

- Hawthorn are 3-3 like us, lost their core defender to an injury, and dropped a game they shouldn't have against GWS due to an arrogance on a whole different level - their Captain and Vice Captain getting themselves dropped due to being stupid on field.
- Sydney (4-2) dropped a should-win game against the Bulldogs.
- North are 3-3 also due to being trounced by the Crows.
- Geelong are 3-3 after losing by an average of about 40 points to other teams on this list and aren't looking particularly exciting.
- Essendon are 3-3 after losing to Collingwood.
- Richmond are 2-4 and looking generally pathetic.

We were always going to drop one of these 'unloseable' games. Better to get it out of the way now. Time for the whole club to pull its head in and realsie that 60000 members does not make a Premiership. We haven't won anything yet.

This loss could be the reality check that inspires us to bigger and better things.

Gussy did play well his effort was outstanding. Particularly the piece of play where he put his head over the ball and got cleaned up.

However he needs to kick goals!!! Only 4 goals so far this year just isn't good enough at all. He needs to start finding the scoreboard

Premierships are won by putting away sides like the Eagles. There has to be a ruthless consistency about the way we go about it, week in, week out. Sadly, it's been non-existent this season. The games we've actually won this season have hardly been convincing. Too many players seem satisfied with a couple of finals appearances and appearing in AFL 360 montages. If that's the case, pack your bags, hand your jumper in, and request a trade to either Richmond or the Suns.

They embarrassed the jumper last night. They announced to the other 17 clubs that when you play us, your always a chance. Coaches will be telling there players during breaks that our weakness is that we're easily satisfied with playing an excellent quarter of footy, then calling it a day.

Forget final 4, we will struggle to make the 8 with our current attitude.

Disgraceful stuff yesterday. That was our shittest performance since the Collingwood game last year, at least then we had the excuse of half our side being crook. Perhaps our players all came down crook from sniffing their own farts and drinking their own bath water. Honestly, i haven't been this disappointed in our players for a long time, they've let us all down. This game had danger signs written all over it, they all knew it too, but still went out there with fatheads expecting it was just going to happen. The fact we still can't win games after showdowns is an indictment on our playing group. Where is this professionalism everyone has been talking about? How much do they really want it? How hungry are they really? Stop talking about how much the prelim loss hurt last year, i'm sick of it, do something about this year before it slips away.

We had a massive opportunity to go 4 and 2 and be knocking right on the door of the top 4, now we are back in the middle of the road pack just struggling to keep our heads above water. The way some of our fans were talking it was like being 8 and 2 by the bye was a mere formality, but for me the way were are playing at the moment we are going to struggle against the likes of Brisbane, Richmond, & Melbourne unless we improve drastically.

Was he the ump looking directly at a blatant push in the back (two palms) on Lobbe? from a side on angle and said it was the players elbows as he raised his arms?

That campaigner should be reamed.
Yep. Who also paid the free against one of our guys for doing the exact same thing (forearms in back) previously. And also the guy who paid a htb against wingard that saw Priddis kick a goal when he got tackled as soon as he picked up the ball and it jarred free, who then allowed eagles players to do exactly the same thing for the rest of the night. Just some fckn consistency would be nice.

Nah.

We could afford to lose one in essence, being so early in the season.

Essendon sunk our battleship.
I meant in terms of performance not impact on the season.

I don't get how umpires can miss things like that. It was so blatant and I was at the southern end feckin miles away and could see it. It defies belief. Was a red card offense in soccer, clear goal scoring opportunity denied. Methinks mcinerney has got the perm too tight and it has cut off the circulation to his brain.

I don't mind losing but only when we have given it our best. Not like this.

I just hope this is one of those teachable moments when you learn so much more from the loss than from squeaking past with a win.

Come on Port get back to agressive footy.

Wines returning will significantly change our structure. It will allow wingard to be forward to crumb for a majority of the night BUT - he has been our in form clearance winner which is the worry. That said, i said it earlier and some said 'feel pls' but we are not one player away from being a winning side at the moment and people are heaping it on Wines. He will not be our savior and nor should he be seen that way.

To touch on what ken said last night we arent completely connecting at the moment. We have 7-10 doing their role from defence to attack but the three that don't are costing the other 7. We will have 5 good passes as we tranisition into attack only to have a fumble and turnover up the ground by the 6th player involved. He said it was fruatrating because there was no one to blame as it was different players making mistakes every time. Though i doubt what he said behind closed doors was to this effect. There were definately some barry crockers last night.

We are close to clicking, but not close enough. i think our kick ins are deplorable at the minute and one of our major weaknesses along with the midfield not linking as well as they should.

To lay some blame for our indifferent form so far this year I would be looking at:

Jonas - yet to play a good game or even a solid one.

Monfries - absolutely anonymous so far this year.

Westhoff - see monfries barring probably the showdown.

White - lost a yard, disposal woeful. Not kicking goals like last year.

Broadbent - hasn't looked any good since copping the corked ass against the swan.

Broadbent was our chief offensive player out of defence last year so our lack of rebound is no surprise with his form.

Westhoff has looked out of place with the addition of ryder. He is playing in the midfield and forward but is not having an effect in either.

We need to start winning some decent ****ing clearances.

Lastly, the loss of polec is a big one. Damaging leg out of defence and in the middle. Strong line breaking ability too. Something we are sorely lacking.

Last defender, instant red card.
But we are talking about the same umpire who called "play on!!!" When Robbie was tackled rugby league style around the ankles against North in 2013 so.....

We played shit, no doubt, but about halfway through the second qtr I told my kids, we are going to have to win this game against at least one extra cos the permed umpire is going to kill us all night.

Do you guys honestly recon you have the depth in your squad let alone hunger to be a premiership contender? If Wines and Polec being injured has such a negative effect, it would have to be concerning.

After reading Hammers mid week presser about not playing sexy football and getting back to basics - kicking down the line and looking for the boundary to reload at a stoppage instead of moving it through the corridor, I've got to ask why? That shit we dished up last night was impotent. Because of some preemptive "back to basics"? Because we rely on stoppages to win possession?

This happened last year. A couple of close losses with a few guys out and we 'don't have depth'.

We eviscerated Hawthorn without Wines and Gray. We've got problems, but it doesn't translate to 'depth'.

I think we are close, our best is good enough, the young boys I feel may have a bit of a 2014 hang over. Plenty of young teams can experience this. Hopefully they snap out of it quickly, as we don't want this happening all season, otherwise we will be one of those teams spoken about that can do damage on their day come finals but won't.

Luckily it's an open race for second and as tribey it's not doom and gloom we are only 1 game off of second, winning the next three is now vital.
