A bit more on Oscar Jenkins apparent execution:

Anonymous sources using highly emotive language ... "He was my best mate!" .... isn't higely reliable imo.

But the scenario they ourline is perfectly plausible re a bunch of mercenaries being captured and executed on the spot.

That's what happens to mercenaries and is why they're not covered by international law.

Even if we go with this version, it begs who the other guys killed alongside him were.

Dirt poor Colombians who joined up for money? There's thousands of them in Ukraine.

Until we know more, which we most likely never will, we really can't form a solid view on what happened imo.

How has this ceasefire deal come about? What has changed that would prompt Israel to accept any form of Ceasefire?
Their own words:

Former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Barak:

Israeli approval today comes because of Trump’s pressure and not out of moral and humanitarian commitment towards the kidnapped people.

Thumping? He won by less than 2%. His popular margin victory was smaller than Hillary Clinton’s in 2016.

He would sell anything that isn’t nailed down to anyone.

Putin has invaded a sovereign state. He won’t stop at Ukraine. Anyone who believes he’s a boogeyman is a crank.

He won convincingly, the College and the popular vote.

He IMPROVED on his 2016 win.

When I'm wrong about something, like I was about the 2024 US election, I try and learn from it.

The most obvious lesson is the American people wanted him, knowing exactly who he is.

That he's a shonk who would sell anything that isn't nailed down is no big secret, and they still voted for him.

He IS the will of the Anerican people writ large, this is who Anerica is (as uncomfortable as that may be)

As for Russia invading sovereign Ukraine, they did that, it's a fact.

Apparently the first time in history it's ever happened too lol.

I can see the parallels, although Trump is trying to remove the US from treaties similar to what got the world in trouble in 1914. I see Trump as isolationist, he is more likely to turn the US into Russia 1919. Looking at solving problems inwards and we also know how that ended up with people who thought they were smartest in the room. Although as a given completely different ideologies.

Yep, he's always appealed to that strong "whadda we wasting our taxes on them goddam [insert current war] for" streak in the US politics.

And that's and OLD and strong streak - why the US didn't automatically enter either world war at the beginning.

For all US propaganda loves to call the bad guy du nos jours THE NEW HITLER, they didn't actually do shit to stop the real life Hitler until the Japanese attacked their Pacific naval base and Hitler declared war on them.

I’ve always said Trump isn’t going to be the issue it’s what crawls out in 15 years or so, after we’ve seen a few years of hyperinflation and destabilisation in the US and you’ve got absolute resentment towards the state.

I don't think we have to wait that long. He's old, desperately unhealthy and hasn't done a days exercise in his life.

Every chance he does a William Henry Harrison and dies after getting sick at his inauguration in a week lol.

Then we have President Vance.

On which, the civil war between the Bannon faction and the Saffa tech scum will define the next few years imo.

Both Biden and Trump camps appear to be trying to take credit for it.

It is interesting that the exact terms of the ceasefire are the exact terms that the Biden administration pushed for starting back in May last year.

When?

When Trump gets in and begins his insane tax cuts again and all the other crap.

He did more to blow out their deficit than anyone in modern history, and he's going to do it again.

They have to sell bonds to finance the debt. They'll have to do it at ever increasing rates.

Its basically what happened to Liz Truss (another insane loser) but on steroids.

The article is explaining the mechanism, not the cause but honestly would you invest in America in the next few years?

They have to cut spending by billions whilst simulating growth with a couple of self serving billionaires running policy, what could go wrong.

The US is currently where Russia was in 1999. Except, instead of electing a bodgy strongman to take down the oligarchs, he's actively aiding them lol.

It was one of his election promises. Trump has no interest in having wars in the Middle East.

Minor point of clarification; Trump didn't campaign on ending the Gaza conflict. Quite the opposite; he actively campaigned on encouraging Netanyahu to escalate and 'finish the job' (IE get rid of Hamas fully and once and for all).

I don't love Rosenberg or The Atlantic generally speaking, but to be fair I largely agree with how they've described the way this ceasefire came about - it was Biden's deal, and the parties finally accepted it because both sides didn't feel they'd likely get a better deal under Trump;

Also just for what it's worth, the same article makes a good argument for why it wouldn't be wise for anyone to prescribe 'victory' to either Israel or Palestine/Hamas in this situation;

Fairly safe to assume they don't have any MIG 29s left, which is pretty amazing when you consider how many they had to begin with and how many were donated from around the world.

Is this what we're doing?

Now that you're back, are we going to get daily tweets and telegram posts about how Russia is akshually winning?

You could say that 'threat' has worked and brought all sides to compromise. The relationship between Trump and Netanyahu isn't exactly rosy, at least not publicly.

We're not doing anything.

I'm posting stuff (in this case from a pro Ukranian Western source) on the thread to discuss world affairs.

If YOU want to pick fights, like you kept doing while I was gone (even against my ghost lol), did against this boards POTY and do on the NFL threads and any other thread you go on, then that's about YOU, not me.

This thread is really great except for you, and that's just simple fact.

If you can't engage civilly, then don't engage at all.

For everyone's sake.

Ah, once again you are foiled by your grasp of what is and isn't a 'fact'.

If you can't engage civilly, then don't engage at all.

Welcome back.

Before you left, you were claiming reports of North Korean troops in Ukraine/Kursk was Ukranian/South Korean propaganda. Have you adjusted this position?
