Started nervously, but thought he didn't dowl to badly, was not many loose balls. Was targetted by two of the best players of spin in the world and fought back well.

Newsflash: Best players of spin in the world briefly take to nervous legspinner in comeback match!

Not much of a headline is it really?

It was a good effort by Hoggy - everyone knew he'd cop a bit of stick as a spinner against the Indians. The fact that he got savaged for a little while by the Little Master is no great shame.

He bowls a few loose ones but at least he's tossing them up. His wrong 'un is devastatingly good because his wrist action barely varies - it's only the release point which changes and that is very hard to pick.

He got some turn on the second day of a seamers wicket and grabbed a couple of wickets...what more could we have asked from a bloke playing his first Test in how many years?

He's a popular player; full of energy in the field and off it; he's a better batsman than the ever-improving Lee (who is now considered an all-rounder by Ch 9 incidentally) and extends our tail enough to have Clark at 11 - probably the best bunny in our Test history!

I was very happy with his efforts today, all things considered, and look forward to seeing what does on a 4th or 5th day wicket.

peace

If you cant name 5 worse spinners that have played for Australia then you know very little about Cricket and our spin bowlers over the last 20 odd years

He is the worst. Him and Johnson are tragic players. Just tragic.

Ganguly must know what it feels to be bowled by a 5 year old. :)

Hauritz and roberston would be my top 2 although robbo is harsh i think a series in india he took more wickets than warne.

Hogg bowled ok he was very nervous but got Ganguly with a ripper and wasnt detered when sachin was dispatching (happens to many a good bowler) and continued to throw it up. Will be handful in the second innings here and sydney

Looked nervous at the start and it didn't come out of the hand well but he bowled really well after the Little Master was gone. Gained a bit of confidence when Ganguly had no clue. I rate him highly and he'll do well in the 2nd innings.

didn't have a plan at all.... and it was shown when you saw his pitch map - balls were landing all over the place....

fought back well once he got gangully's wicket (confidence is huge for spinners), but i didn't see the end cause i required a post christmas and boxing day nap at around 3.30.

The fact that he was 0-75 at one stage, and one of his wickets was a tailender, would suggest he had a poor day. If MacGill returned those figures, people would be calling him a hack and telling him to go and drink some wine.

factually correct......however unlike Magill he bowled very few long hops and actually bowled full and made the batsmen attack him.

So he should. He's fully fit and hasn't been out of the game for an extended period of time. Figures of 2/80 odd, long hops or not, is average at best. People around here love to pick n choose who they critisise, regardless of actual facts.

yes but hogg is a stop gap replacement thus we celebrate the fact he was useful MacGill has the record to prove he should bowl a hell of alot better than he has of late. (hogg doesnt have this record) that is why we bagged out macgill for a woeful display, and priased Hogg (whom many criticised and said would do nothing) for a decent play

That's the thing though, everyone forgets that MacGill was playing injured and it was pretty much his first serious cricket match in a long time. When he's fit he's much better than that, but no one takes that into account because they're too busy pushing their own adjendas
