Now Cox is normally a lock and leave for my team every season but I have been having a play around with replacing him with Sandy and I think it can actually help improve my team overall:

dt2n.jpg

By downgrading Cox > Sandi I can then make the following changes:
Higgns > Pavlich
Sheppard > Waters
Vezpremi > Dangerfield

And I think that makes the team look a lot safer and better off. Thoughts?

Backs - Goddard, Carrazzo, Fisher, Hodge, Drum, Buckley, Ladson (Maguire, Trengove)

Centres - Swan, Mitchell, Mclean, McVeigh, Trengove, Martin (Shuey, Banner)

Rucks - Kreuzer, Tippett (Warnock, Lobbe)

Forwards - Riewoldt, Sylvia, Pavlich, Higgins, Dangerfield, Franklin, Macaffer (Hitchcock, Podsiadly)

I like your team. You have an extremely strong midfield, HOWEVER, i think you could downgrade 1 or 2 of your mids to $360k players. You will save yourself about $150k and not lose any points. There is alot of value with the cheaper mids.
Also, unsure about Ottens as i think his best scoring days are past him. Maybe use the money saved in the mids and get Jolly or Tippett.

124k to spare...

Backline: Not many good cheap options, so I've selected 4 premiums and 4 midpricers (who have all been decent scorers in the past). Hopefully 2 of waters, rivers, kennelly and ladson can become keepers.

Mid: my weakpoint. So many good rookies look like they will be available, but i may upgrade one of them depending on their preseason form. Trengove and Martin locked in at this stage. Masten could be swapped for Ward or Cotchin - or upgraded to a premium. I'm tipping Morton for a breakout year.

Rucks: have gone for value picks rather than premiums. Will look to upgrade nicnat to a premium after he goes up in value. Kruezer will hopefully be a keeper.

Fwds: 5 premiums. dangerfield and medhurst to increase in value by ~100k each. Wona and TDL also look to be big cash cows (they should both get games?)

I like it. As mentioned above, I would probably trade Ottens for someone, probably Tippett or (depending on NAB Challenge form) David Hille. Assuming he is fully recovered, could be a bargain. Also, you would want to be sure that either Tapscott or Podsaidly are definately starting round 1, since Buddy will miss. I think you could get more value out of your midfield, maybe drop Selwood for a mid-pricer and use the extra $150k elsewhere?

My (ever-changing) team. Fairly happy at the moment, though the backline is a little on the cheap side. Waters possibly interchanged with Suckling, depending whether Suckling looks like getting a regular gig. Unsure on Gilbert, but not a huge fan of other options available. Same with Gia. Pretty happy with the midfield at the moment.

Thoughts?

not sure if palmer or hille are going to be ready early this season? otherwise looks pretty solid

I've got the money to change Palmer to Masten if necessary, I just feel that Palmer will serve me better if he's playing. If Hille doesn't come up I can swap him / Sandi for a Kreuzer / Tippet combo. Prefer this one though :)

Solomon has retired. This means a spot up for grabs for Freo rookie. I'm tipping Barlow will get it.

Hoping my team has got the right sort of structure now with few premiums, few mid range players for upgrade and cash cows.

Thoughts?

B: Goddard, Enright, Hodge, Hurn, Suban, Kennelly, Ladson (Trengove, Davis)

M: Bartel, Gibbs, Pendlebury, Masten, Trengove, Martin (Bastinac, Shuey)

R: Kreuzer, Tippett (Warnock, Lobbe)

F: Riewoldt, Pavlich, Giansiracusa, Franklin, Medhurst, Ziebell, Dangerfield
(TDL, Pods)

Cheers :)

When people are putting the Kruze Tippett combo for rucks how many keepers are they expecting from that? 2,1, or 0? Both good players but it just seems a bit awkward.

Thanks for the advice guys. If the only tips you can give is to improve the ruck division then I think I am pretty happy.

I see both of your points but I am happy to stock up on MF premiums rather than downgrading one to take a guess on a potential second ruckmen. But that is what makes DT all the more interesting!

The team has an excellent structure, it clealy looks like you know what you are doing, so the only thing to criticise is some individual selections. Personally I dont see any value in Mc Pahrlin or Taylor Walker. Veszpremi is a risk. He will probably go up in value but to be honest he isnt that cheap and has only played a handful of AFL games.

You must be confident of Morabito getting a round 1 game, I was under the impression he was only a borderline chance?

I decided on McPharlin and Walker after hearing about their pre-seasons. Both are looking great. I know Walker can get a good score when on-song and I think he'll get regular games this year. McPharlin's history isn't very good but I'm going to put faith in him and hope he has his best DT season yet.

Veszpremi is entering his third year so I think now will be his break-out. Has gotten quite a few injuries and I am slightly wary about him but with the cash I have left (3.1k), I don't have any other good option but to stick with him.

Also, I like Morabito's odds of playing a good amount of games this year. Fremantle seem to have improved their youth management with Hill and Suban playing full seasons last year and players like Deboer having good ones too. Morabito's probably more ready-made than all of them so for now, I have him instead of Trengove.

GrandBlue - FWIW and from a Freo perspective I think you'll get better value than Luke. He is going back to the backline where he belongs which will improve his form but not his scoring.

Just from a Freo perspective I would go with Suban over Luke down back and Mayne over him up forward. Both will score more I think.

You're spot on about Mora, I'm with the Martin/Mora duo in the mids.

In general folks, Silvagni could be worth a close look now that Solly has retired. I reckon he'll be the one upgraded there. He won't score in big numbers but at $77K he won't need too and may cover a 0 for you 1 week when you need it before you cash him in.

Another version...had to upgrade the rucks....any thoughts.....Schulz up forward is a concern but i'm guessing Port got him for a reason.....Backs...light on but i'm hoping Greenwood will play in the midfield more and gather some more possessions....Mids....still unsure whether i'm going to keep Goodes there. I know McVeigh is out R1 but there are some other good value mids around that price. At this stage Morabito might come in and upgrade someone else.....

Any thoughts appreciated......

Ah, right. I'd assume he'd be playing mainly as a stopper then.

I'll consider Suban if he gets some midfield time. Though, given he played 22 games last year, I'm sure he'll have a great second year as most players do. He can only improve.

Hey guys,

can you please have a look at my team. I have some concerns about too many backline rookies and my rucks seem weak. Main aim is to win my league (not so much the comp).

Hey guys,

can you please have a look at my team. I have some concerns about too many backline rookies and my rucks seem weak. Main aim is to win my league (not so much the comp).

Starting Davis on the field is very reckless. I highly suggest starting only experienced players on the forward and backline. I also suggest getting a gun keeper into your backline as well. It's good but personally I'd have one (or both) of Goddard or Enright.

I also suggest downgrading Swan. He and Ablett are pretty much guarunteed to get cheaper later in the season and IMO, both are overpriced. You could get the extra cash to perhaps get an experienced player in the backline.

So having read Lakey's thread on the "Perfect Starting 22" I decided I would field a team under that principle. There are a few guys I'm not sold on in it, but those are the same type of players that made that Perfect Team that I missed last year(Gilbert, Gram, Hargrave, Montagna and Johnson all come to mind).

For those who haven't read that thread, the theory is to pick undervalued guys with the potential to improve 10+ points, durability is a big plus(my major issue with several guys on here), finally, it is an attempt at a unique combination of players. You will notice the usual guns are basically completely absent. Players in brackets are the "comparison" player from the other thread which is here...

Backs
Sam Fisher - Had a down year last year, proven history. (Lockyer)
Luke Hodge - Past gun, injury plagued year. (Goddard)
Adam McPhee - Hoping for a role change back to past big scoring roles(Gram)
Xavier Ellis - Hope for big things from him.(Gilbert)
Nick Malceski - Coming back from injuries that plagued his form(Duffield)
Nick Suban - Young guy that should be moving to the middle(Mundy).
Brett Jones - This is the most uncertain pick, hope to see him back in previous role this year if healthy. Doesn't really match any of the previous guys and I'm not confident of this pick.

Trengove and Silvagni as rookies, will be cheap guys that play hopefully(may change based on NAB).

Midfield

Scott Pendlebury - Proven scorer who will hopefully go to the next level, ie Super Elite.(Swan)
Brett Deledio - Seemed to figure out tags at end of 2009, should be pure midfield this year.(Montagna).
Brent Prismall - I just rate him really highly as a keeper type. Doesn't match any of LYs guys.
Adam Cooney - Coming back from an injury plagued season. Also doesn't really match.
Jarrad McVeigh - Has been rock solid, aging team around him should increase his role.(Bernie Vince to a T).
David Armitage - Talented, the guy keeping him out is gone.(Swallow).

Martin and Shuey on the bench atm, see Backs for the plan.

Rucks

David Hille - Coming back from injury, previous proven scorer.(McIntosh)
Brad Ottens - Same as Hille, I don't see the Mitch Clark. NicNat has most potential for that with a Cox season ender or... Kepler Bradley(gasp) with Sandilands/Clark going down.(McIntosh again).

Warnock and Lobbe on the bench. Nothing to see here.

Forwards

Colin Sylvia - Finished really strong, hopefully expanding role with no McLean. Risky pick though.(Davey).
Brent Harvey - The old guy who had a down year. (Brad Johnson).
Lance Franklin - The guy who had distractions/fitness issues hurt him.(O'Keefe)
Paul Medhurst - Really doesn't fit the profile but had a down year and looks refreshed(McGrath).
Barry Hall - A total punt. Doesn't match anyone from LY.
Scott Stevens - Rumours of a different role with good scoring potential.(Also Davey in a different way).
Dangerfield - The young guy with potential to score big.(Tippett).

Gumbleton and Podsiadly currently holding the bench spots.

Any thoughts or possible upgrades, within the criteria, that anyone has are welcome..
