Hope not. He had a 'mare last year at Marvel vs the Saints. The Saints ran rings around him.
He'll get to 300, but trying to force it before the MSD is a risky game to play.
Also who comes out of the side after the weekend's performance without stuffing up our structure?
i reckon Mackie loves the RISK & REWARD caper...

More likely Duncan is named and then subbed off. My preference would be not to let him anywhere near Marvel .......it's no place for old slow blokes. The days of playing him off a wing or half back and using his foot skills are long gone. He's been over taken by others.

Wouldn't be surprised if he got his games tally up at GMHBA solely, but he's cooked and I wouldn't be relying on him anymore than we need to.

Get him his 300 games before mid season - have him retire (as already agreed) - and take a mid season pick to fill a gap.

Duncan could be the worst sub choice in the league. Go look at the games he’s been sub recently (saints, lions PF). I get gifting him 300 games but don’t like it at the expense of players trying to break in like Clark, Knevitt etc.

Don’t think we need anything from the MSD draft so just save him for some easy dead rubbers at Kardinia end of season
I prefer using the word reward for services rendered.
300 games over 14 odd years of service.
Good clubs come and go.
Great clubs look after their blokes like this.
We are indeed a GREAT club. Great culture. This is what we do.
FWIW never ever been a great fan of his but respect the achievement he has achieved.
Congratulations to him and his family.

Clark out of the 23, Duncan in would seem the obvious change to me.

Agree

Doesn’t sound like Mannagh and Martin are quite ready in based on CS comment a week or so ago. Looks like maybe around round 3-5 that they will be deemed fit? Especially if the team keeps winning!

Beyond that it is hard to know why you would change it for others who aren’t obvious best 23 (Stanley, Duncan, Ted) unless someone injured or have bad two to three weeks?

Maybe Clark comes in against Saints and MOC or Mullin goes to sub?

After next week we have Brisbane interstate then melb here and Adelaide away off consecutive 6 day breaks so we will have to rotate for those games. So I'd save mamnagh for those games. Clark for mullin is probably good enough a change for this week.

Our job is to try and win the flag every year not handicap our chances of doing that. If you want to reward him you give him a job at the club but you don't play him.

A lot of our gimme games are in the back end of the year. There is not a lot of opportunities to nurse him to the 300 before the MSD so 100% expect he will be named for this one.

June onwards is when our draw opens up.

I remember a few old slower blokes busting their guts and killing it when they knew Father time was confiscating their Sherrin. One led us to a grand final..... and a few blood nuts too! We'll be kind enough to let Mitch get a few in, hopefully sooner than later, but don't be surprised if he is serviceable, at the least, in the role we give him. That's a wish he deserves, in a Club that knows the value of milestones.

Cats coming off a good win and Saints coming off an embarrassing loss.
Yeah, I've seen this movie before and I didn't like it.

The only movie I remember is lip reading a scowling, shitty livered Lyons -"we had 'em til the very end"
It's entitled ToePoke-You'll Never Get 09 Back.
Long may we reign, this week will be no exception. ;)

I think the Saints are in a bit of strife even before you consider injuries so we should roll them.

That said I feel like we often lose to the Saints at Marvel when they're not travelling great.

Cats by 2 goals in a grinding effort that no one will remember or replay
I think historically the marvel based teams often put up a very big fight against us down there and it’s touch and go most of the game.. we rarely go down there and flog them even when they are mediocre.

If they win it will be slingshot out the back catching us out.

As generous and sentimental as it was, it was a mistake to play Duncan as the sub in last year's PF. He has provided amazing service to the club but we can only consider him as a backup or supportive inclusion for games where we can carry him without his significant accountability. Unfortunately, he lacks pace and versatility to be a viable sub option imho.

I don't see the logic in retiring him half way through the season just so we can use the extra list spot at the MSD. We've used that pick badly on both previous occasions and been very ungenerous to the players picked. Besides, barring an actual acute emergency on our list like all our ruckmen breaking down, we have a pretty balanced playing group with no obvious deficiencies. Anyone we pick up at the MSD would only be cover- someone to come in for a game or three in case of injury or when it's someone else's turn to be managed. You know who already meets that description? Duncan.

Plenty of clubs have used the msd to bring in best 22 players. We just need go do the same.

Baily Smith was interviewed and said he was sore and had to come off for the last 7 or 8 minutes of the game.
Had a sore knee a couple of weeks ago.
Playing on the concrete slab at Marvel this week.
Putting these three things together. Might be a watch.

Without checking I’d say most of those players were in the top 5 picked.
If we’re tracking well, say in the top 4-6 by the mid-season draft, the chance of getting someone who could make a difference would be very slim.
Also telling someone who has been a fantastic servant to the GFC that you’re out halfway through the season is something I can’t see us doing unless it’s his decision and his alone.
He’ll get to 300, but forcing it to be done by the MSD and then giving him the boot is not what we do.
We may have to go to the MSD because of injury, and if that’s the case would a 2nd rd MSD pick be worth getting rid of Duncan?
Duncan looks like he’s not best 23 anymore, but would a speculative MSD pick provide more than an experienced head guiding our kids in the VFL? I’m not sure. Food for thought.
