Can anyone answer why you’ve spent hours discussing draft picks in a game thread?

How about discussing how Collingwood are playing and how we can beat them.

I know it’s a bit of a crazy thought to put forward in a game thread.
About as crazy as discussing each game in here but never bothering to watch any game?/?

More lazy analysis! None of these deals burnt draft picks:

NameCost
Ceglar, JonathonPick swap - future 3rd for Ceglar & future 4th
Dahlhaus, LukeFree agent
Higgins, ShaunPick 30 - received for Fogarty (Carl)
Rohan, GaryPick 61
Smith, IsaacFree agent

The only trade we've done that used any picks of value was getting Jeremy Cameron through the door at 27 years of age, and one of the best KPFs in the game.

I'd rather play a 34 year old who played HFF in round 1, had 21 disposals and kicked 1.1, than play a kid would will have < 10 disposals in the same role. We're already allocating 1/3 of our 22 to kids under 23 years of age. You can't play 22 kids every week. Even if CS did you'd blame him for getting flogged every week because you just want to have your sook.
The only pick and trade which I'm disappointed is, Pick 30 for a 33 year old Higgins... thats a good pick we could have used

Yes, our list is not up to scratch for those attributes, and no longer can we get by with cameos from Danger, Selwood, Hawkins or Cameron
Agree about MOC
It's been clear for 5-6 years, and clearer now, that speed of disposal is the key. Good kicking is paramount of course. We CAN do both but when the heat is on for the most part we can't.

Much and all as I love this club, and would also love to be proven wrong (arrrrggghh), right now and for the past few years we ain't got it.

......and not for a few more I reckon.

This. We have great guys going around but time for some hard calls.

And why TF can't Danger kick a bloody set shot goal when needed after all of these elite years? BTW he is not alone sadly.

We have quite a few guys retiring soon, and / or declining as Father Time claims his due. It's kinda going to be like losing Lillee, Marsh and Chappell all at once.....

I swear goal kicking is a dying art form. The number of players missing set shots on goal is amazing.

Yeah agree and I understand that it is about running your guts out here and there and being cooked while taking a shot. But others can deal with this while we struggle repeatedly.

Danger's technique is flawed - leaning back clearly - yet it continues. How/who fixes that?

He's too old to change a bad habit.

I blame the coaches from underage through to AFL seniors. A blind eye has been turned.

And that's my point. But is he too old to change a bad habit? Hmmm. Who amongst us has not changed something that is not working for us?

And yet ... we see other elite players adapt and improve on their flaws. And yet ... with Danger and many others ... no.

[sorry in NT and half cut]

Not a bad place the NT.

OT though, so we better leave that diacussion here.

We've hardly broken the bank in establishing our own defensive group, though.

De Koning (Pick 19)
Tuohy (Smedts, plus seven-pick downgrade at draft)
Stewart (Pick 40)
Kolo (Pick 41)
Bews (Pick 86)
Atkins (Rookie list)
Henry (Rookie list)
Zuthrie (Rookie list)
Blitz (Category B rookie)
MOC (Category B rookie)
Quite incredible when you break it down that way.
Great post

Agree on the price we paid in terms of draft pick but it did foreclose any chance of drafting Grundy.

It was a real sliding doors moment.

And I still remember my Norf supporting mate laughing at our interest back then, his only real laugh over the roughly 10 years.

Fairly recently. He specifically said that they need to quickly get young players to the 30-50 game mark, and it would be a club goal to make it happen.

Chris scott must have missed the memo.

This is absolutely laughable unless you think the two men are on a completely different page and aren't regularly having robust discussion about the direction of the club and the team
