Autopsy Review 2022 R4, v. Melbourne (The most sackable game in AFL history?)

Disappointing finish.. made it look more competitive than it was and made it look like Steven motlop wasn't invisible for 99% of the game.
To be fair, I disagree with this.

Tonight was very competitive.

The commentators were in a circle jerk about Melbourne but completely glossed over the fact that for probably 3 quarters we were the team that was controlling field position. We stifled them out of the middle and generally held up defensively quite well.

The thing is our forward system is non existent. All the hard work of the rest of the side was completely fruitless.

You inject some system into that forward half and the result would've been far more even, as it should've been on the balance of play.

If you can't score and (most of the time) you can't defend, the basic elements of the game, then no matter how competitive we were, how hard we worked and how well our midfield systems held up, the scoreboard is always going to be embarrassing.

The coach needs to go. We need to change this up, we're completely out of ideas for our system and it's going to start destroying the confidence and development of our kids.

No this is destroying players. That attempt at goal by Mitch says it all. Desperate and confused. There’s a clear choice sack the coach or destroy the players.

Coaches are going to drill him for being selfish and showoff like but at least he tried something different.

That whole passage was like him trying to utilise his creativity but he's second guessing everything because they want to coach that part out of him.

If Melbourne gave even half a shit tonight, we would've been destroyed. They treated us with the level of respect we deserve at the moment. Carlton next round though? They'll murder us.

Reminded me of a few of those beltings of Leppitsch’s Lions — if we’d really got out of first gear and dropped the hammer we’d have won by 200.

Tonight was an absolute stroll for them.

This is the worst case scenario.

We needed Melbourne to kick up a higher score

We needed Houston to not kick that goal.

Motions were in place to force the board to sack him but it's not happening now

Something doesn't stack up with Wines.

No head knock, yet dizzy and and not right.

They beat us with 10 minutes of good football. 10. That's where we're at right now. Teams only have to put up 10 minutes, and we'll do the rest for them.

Just awful. Barring the last 10 minutes, we failed to win a single possession within 30m of our goals. The uncontested, mark/kick sideways style just played into the Demons hands perfectly - in fact, any team would love to play us in this self-preservation mode.

Forget the stat's that say we matched or exceeded Melbourne in most areas - the one key stat in this was contested possession, and I don't need a stat sheet to show me that we were smashed at this. Our players went out of their way to avoid the hard ball.

Our forward line...wow, just wow.what a horror show! It's hard enough when the ball comes in slow and high, but soft, flaky players like Motlop, Marshall and Rozee are kidding themselves if they blame it all on the delivery. Make a contest, fight hard, and you should win the odd one or two. But the forwards were horrendous, and it's a trend..

Drew was good, he kept Petracca quiet. The defence generally were resolute, but gave no rebound and played it too safe.

I won't be back until I see a change in game plan, attitude and coaching. Ah, who am I kidding, I'll probably front in 2 weeks again :sickv1:

But I will be in disguise.

Worse coach in the AFL by a country mile, not even debatable.

Most ineffectual first ruck in the AFL.

Most horrifically skilled AFL Captain.

Rozee is just a bang average footballer & a bust for pick 5.

Mcentee would struggle to get a kick in the SANFL let alone at the top level.

Apart from 5 minutes of junk time, Motlop could’ve been mistaken for a witches hat.

Would Hayes/Lord/Visentini offered more at full forward than a 6 foot 1 Sam Mayes?

..Jones, Houston, Jonas

Then at other end of scale

Burton, DBJ and Bonner
Jones continuously flying and leaving bloke on deck to crumb and having no impact on contest is detrimental to what we are trying to do, reminds me of Campbell Brown at the minute.

Houston was quiet.

Jonas was Jonas and expected, Leaders would stand up when we have gone a half without score, part of the problem.

DBJ, trade him - going no where with him here!

Burton isn't a defender, made to look good in structured teams previously. Best bet on a Wing or Half Forward, Clarkson knew it.

Bonner was the best of this lot, but 37 pointless possessions didn't hurt the oppo, a victim of terrible coaching and a moronic game plan.

Would Hayes/Lord/Visentini offered more at full forward than a 6 foot 1 Sam Mayes?
Yes. We at least could've tried to exploit a height mismatch on May, even if he'd have them beaten for strength. Instead we gave away both height and strength against Melbourne's best defender. But what would I know? I'm just white noise.
