Josh Carr - Between 2016 and 2019, he was appointed senior coach of the North Adelaide Roosters in the SANFL, guiding the club to a premiership in 2018.

Coached a premiership, played in a premiership, club he was at improves when he's there, goes bad when he leaves, comes to a club that suddenly becomes a flag contender.

He's ticking a lot of boxes for me....

Just got to hope he wants it

At the very least having multiple extremely good candidates is only a good thing
Yes and no as I believe there’s going to be a few clubs looking for a new coach next year. Possible ones are GCS, Fremantle, Port ( if unsuccessful) , WCE and North. Minibus is still well parked in the PRO garage.

Even if a lot of clubs are on the market the reality is right now we are the only one and in prime position

We get to see ALL the candidates before some of the other positions even come up so they will be essentially picking out of a group that we have already taken the best prospect out of

Even if Mini gets it
We will have kicked all the tyres in the yard and it won’t be a rushed process for us

Clubs who sack the coach at the end of the year are already on the back foot because they need to make a decision in a lot smaller time frame

The whole “hasn’t coached his own side” will be out the window by the time the process comes around. He will have experience as an AFL coach, albeit interim, and we’ll know if he’s up to it. It’s the perfect audition really

Also, those saying they couldn’t see him delivering a spray, that may be the case, but I couldn’t really see Mcrae going off his rocker either. But you know the saying”beware the quite guy” so we don’t know what he’s really like when he’s angry

I agree , would not surprise at all if both WA clubs were in the market , Carr being a local would be hotly pursed

He is a similar personality to mcrae , coaches who rely on sprays are dinosaurs and won’t cut it in the modern footy landscape , a cool head is what prevails . We have many challenges on the road ahead we will know well and truly how capable mini is

Gold Coast and West Coast will be after Hardwick. He will end up at the former as they will chase him hard early and offer him Clarkson money. The list and lifestyle will appeal to him.

West Coast will leave their run too late. They will publicly back Simpson until just before the end of season then begin the process.

Port will reappoint Hinkley next month. 3 years I reckon. Can’t sack him based on current performance.

Freo will stick with Longmuir. They will see this as a down year and look to bounce in 24, but he will go early if they don’t perform then.

North is an interesting one. I think Clarkson is cooked and won’t see out his term. This won’t work out well for North, but I see Al giving it a good go until at least the end of 24. He won’t throw it in earlier.

Personally I like what Mini has done but I’d be keen on an external getting it. Carr on paper looks the outstanding candidate and Yze missed out on a couple of roles by a narrow margin. As long as the process is thorough I’m ok with whoever they appoint based on their criteria. I have faith the result isn’t pre-determined.

We have to get interviews done this month and appoint in August so we are ready to go for 2024. If we are racing toward finals, that may impede the speed in which we announce.

There’s a lot of assumptions there as you’re assuming we’ve started the process, but the reality is most to all of the candidates are working in an AFL environment at another club so we wouldn’t be any more advanced in the process. Clubs would already have their Santa list prepared. Some of the candidates may choose to go to a state better suited to them.
I think other clubs looking for a coach will have an extra candidate than us and that would be Dimma.

All managers will be telling their man to hang in there and don’t sign anything up as there will be vacancies galore .
Nobody is going to sign early unless it’s minibus for us.

if that’s the criteria for a coach then that would be something of pre 2000 logic. Im hoping the selection criteria is much more involved than what you’re suggesting

Simpson cant survive this season and last surely.

2018 was a long time ago and the bulk of that elite side are falling away, going or gone..

Yeo, Sheed, Shuey, McGovern, Cripps, Darling Hurn Gaff all nigh on finished. Nic Nat has stolen a living for the last 5-6 years.

Kelly, Barrass, Duggan Ryan andOscar Allen, thats about all they are going forward with in the medium term.

Not really vacancy’s galore and not all vacancies are equal

We will be the only big Melbourne club (that absolutely means something)

Our list has already started to transition and we have a core that could be easily built around (Bolton 2028, Taranto 2028, Hopper 2029, Short 2025, Vlossy 2026 Rioli 2027) all locked in for long term so no surprises in terms of them wanting a trade

Young talent locked in Gibcus, Clarke, Brown, Balta, Young, Sonsie all until 2025

Known widely to be a benchmark in terms of off field and stability from a club perspective and a board that has proven to back in its people despite media and external pressure

If a young coach wants to grow into a role they would be being set up to succeed with us
The same can’t be said about going for a job at Fremantle who is already moving on a new coach or north who is still a complete cluster****

Or west coast who is a strong club… but list is absolutely shot and not even close to the medium to short term prospects we have already locked in

Eagles can't afford the pay out, at present it will cost them 7 mill to depart with Simpson. They are stuck with him for at least another 12 months.

Every list has that sales pitch MM. The facts are Dimma has told the world he couldn’t get our list up anymore which sort of contradicts all you’ve stated. Yet minibus is doing the opposite to what Dimma suggested, but there’s still a long way to go.
Do you think we have a better chance of landing Carr than Port? He may even want to go to WA. Then it comes down to bucks and length of contracts. We are one less candidate than all the rest of the clubs barring North as they’re most likely less attractive than others. The WA clubs are all financially stable and can get up and running before we even know it.
All you’ve done is made assumptions probably based on Tiger love than reality.

Each to their own, As for Carr I believe Port are out of the question as Hinkley will get a new deal. As for WA as it stands they both have contracts beyond the year. Sooner we start the process the quicker we lock in our man :) will be interesting.

Apparently is half coaching Port this season, if rumors are to be believed.

Kenny just fronts the cameras and drinks his Pretend Coke or Pretend Pepsi whatever TF the campaigner is sloshing.
I think you are under selling Hinkley here

He has had port competing finals and they were favorites to beat Richmond in Adelaide in 2020
I believe Ports improvement come from improvements in alot of their players like Marshall , Aliir , Rozee , Butters etc
the team is now at a good stage but can they do it on the big day.

Hinkley is still the boss imo

Personally i think Koshi has made a mistake with his comments about making the call in August

Port should hold off and make the call if Port make the GF and if Hinkley leaves he leaves
Port have a good list with a lot of young talent coming through and are going to be good for 6-7 years

Coaches dont walk away from a list like that

We are in no hurry and shouldn't be
Richmond is a big club and just about every assistant would cut off their left testicle to get the chance to coach this club

* Except Buckley he doesnt have any

It’s not that simple I believe as there’s deals to be made and a lot of water to flow under the bridge. PORT were sniffing around early in the year for a coach. Hinkley is no certainty unless he at least makes a GF. Contracts aren’t worth the paper they’re written on in the modern era. When you have vacancies opening up manag tell their clients to hang in there.

Port have a bad track record under Hinkley backing up the following year so they’ll be wary of that.
