If we make finals or even just miss out , I see that as a pretty successful audition for mini and would only serve to underline one more of dimmas asst on track to be a qty senior coach , no asst without a track record would catapult over that audition , too many unanswered questions remaining
It certainly won't hurt his chances, particularly if we happen to make it.

You never know, we may win our first elimination final since 1977.

I was there that day, was the first final I attended, as a 10yo. My father, his parents and dad's sister and her husband were there, all South Melbourne supporters bar maybe dad's brother-in-law who may have been a Bomber I think. I can barely recall any of the play, just thinking Richmond were always going to win in a fairly dull sort of affair. All my relos were a real bag of laughs with their beloved Swans losing. My dad's Grandfather played 1 game for South Melbourne around the very early 1900's and it was probably courtesy of this they were all South supporters. All I recall apart from that is they brought a boring cut lunch and thermos flasks full of shit that I didn't drink, like tea. :cryv1: I was a little campaigner and wanted to buy a pie and chips and some donuts.

They are all gone now, bar dad's sister. All nice people. It is good to be caused to remember them. Long long time ago now our last Elimination Final win.

Why does it have to be all or nothing? Just because they played a big part, doesn’t mean it was all them and not the coach.
Yeah, your are right but according to quiet a few here it is all about Dimma lol.

If that’s the case you support that mini still does the process, rather then just given the position.
You would but no untried asst coaches would be tipping him out of the job if he’s proven to be very capable , the footy cemetery is full of asst coaches that failed being the big cohuna . Look at LongMuir or any of malthouses asst that went out and fkd up big time , McKenna and neeld. There’s far more to engaging and coaching a group than putting the tackle bags out and you never know until they have their hands on the wheel

I was there that day.
Man .... on public transport ... it would take about three hours to get to Arctic Park from the outer northern suburbs.
Noonan was a bit of a cult hero. Not so much for us, but Essendon.

Who are the people making the call ?

Gale ? Balme ?
Would be the board who have the final say like most things club related

Even things like high profile trades and even draft targets don’t go ahead unless the board give it a tick (most leaks that come out of clubs tend to come out of board level)

I imagine the process involves the board first setting a criteria of the type of person they want and the direction they want to see the club go in the short, medium and long term.

They create a panel of experts (made up of both club stakeholders and external experts) wouldn’t be shocked to see people like Gale and Balme elected to be on this committee as well to run the process to screen individuals and create a shortlist of the best applicants
Probably have multiple rounds of interviews and all the fun stuff

Panel would put forward the recommendations of who they think the best person for the job, and finally a formal vote of the elected board members

Obviously this is a simplified way and the process would be extremely robust involving meetings with playing group, assistant coaches, football operations ect ect ect

I know people are talking up Josh Carr, witht he improvement at Port... which you may or may not believe.
But If you also look at Freo where he left, the drop off there has been significant, with only the real loss of Mundy.

He's coached on his own in the SANFL from memory, I'm starting to warm to the idea.

He coached North Adelaide I believe to the premiership.

Wonder if he is interested given the job is in Melbourne
Looks like he has returned “home” to SA

No doubt he has the credentials and could potentially be right in the mix

But a move to Melbourne and possibly moving his family (again) is also a reality that would need to be considered and maybe something he isn’t interested in over the chance to one day coach an SA team in his home state

Just because he is spoken about doesn’t mean he has applied either

This definitely needs to be a consideration. His wife and family must be fully onboard with the move

It wouldn’t be the board , a sub committee would go thru the paces and table their decision to the board that you’d expect would rubber stamp it

That is an interesting point , freo are an odd one to work out , are they missing acres , lobb and logue that they cast aside for youth in pursuit of LJ . It’s easy to put 2&2 together and get 5 , how long was he at freo

carr wasnt at freo when they made finals last year ,,,,

Fremantle Football Club assistant coach (2019-2021)

In October 2019, Carr was appointed by Fremantle as an assistant coach for the 2020 season under senior coach Justin Longmuir.[5] On July 30, 2021, the club announced that Carr had stood down for an unstated period after he was fined by police for breaching WA quarantine restrictions.[6]

Port Adelaide assistant coach (2023-present)

Carr returned to Port Adelaide Football Club as senior assistant coach under senior coach Ken Hinkley for the 2023 season.[7]

Josh Carr - Between 2016 and 2019, he was appointed senior coach of the North Adelaide Roosters in the SANFL, guiding the club to a premiership in 2018.

Coached a premiership, played in a premiership, club he was at improves when he's there, goes bad when he leaves, comes to a club that suddenly becomes a flag contender.

He's ticking a lot of boxes for me....
