If he keeps this up he probably should move past the early stages of the coaching hunt but to get the job he still needs to be the best there is.

At this stage he has my vote, made moves in a couple of games that have turned them around and were winning the close ones again, long way to go for finals but the balls in our court with who we play.

We have big lapses in games and play 1 or 2 good quarters big problem under Mini is my concern. We won't do that against top sides coming back. The inability to put a good 4 quarter effort is a big issue.

I somewhat agree, but i think a share of that inconsistency needs to fall the the inconsistent age of the group. 1/3 is kids, 1/3 are Old, while 1/3 is the right age. the 2/3 that are kids and old tho are prone to fading in and out of games more often. Ultimately if he can navigate us to the finals, you'd imagine it would get him the job, on a 2 year deal. If he fails to it could still happen, but it would still need to consider the circumstances.

Totally bizzare Mini Fact

Coaching Record....

P W L %
Mini 9 7 2 100.01

Its insane our percentage with him on a 7-2 record is 100%. I know its based on one big loss, but it because we rely almost entirely on last gasp wins. Our winning margins against Saints (20), Swans(13) & Eagles(38) all flattered us to some extent. It's hard to have a "7-2" confidence when you consider the margins and method required. Today was batshit crazy & i still don't feel i've really seen his style and method enough to feel confident he will be able to work through the next 12 months - which will be the hardest we have had. Not only the loss of Peggy, but Dimma, Cotchin & Riewoldt too. We still are not even close to having a Riewoldt replacement and Lynch is very iffy. The loss of Cotchin to our structure is far less an issue, but his leadership and presence will be badly missed, which is also true for Jack. It will be far harder to ride on with the "same-old, same-old" once the same old players have left.

Agree with most of what you said. I would have made it a 3year deal. Which is what they usually get.

The road test starts here. Is it the Minibus or is the Coach who picks up the players for the 2023 season journey?

The coach gets:
Minimum 13.5 wins for the season.
Wins against other oppo sides that are likely playing deep into September
Wins games at Marvel Stadium

The Minivan gets honorable losses, but really, that doesn't provide high comfort for 2024 travels.

So Big Boy month it is then lol. Would be nice to win some games at Marvel coming up.

Until he shows the change required with some of the old guard in favour of kids, I'm reluctant.
At least he is playing Banks and we haven't seen before. but yes, I would like to see a statement made at selection for 3 quarters v Hawks we had some poor senior players not up to it.

Witch senior players?

All of our current whipping boys had massive clutch moments in the final qtr that ultimately led to our win

We have 2 or 3 extra kids in the game yesterday and we don’t win

Right now I think we have a good mix between old and young players

1 quarter should not completely erase the 3 quarters, I don't think McIntosh will be dropped after that last quarter, imo Pickett is not offering much.
I would like to see JR rested for Sampson Ryan we are playing the Demons next, we not going to be favorites to win perfect opportunity to rest him & have him fresh for the Bulldogs game a more likely win.
I'd assume Coulthard comes into the 22.

Not a fan of having a caretaker coach take the reins long term.

However, if Mini manages to get this group to make finals, I think he’s worth a shot.

Needs to do this by keeping playing the kids as well. Coulthard, Cumberland, Banks need to stay in the side.

Brown and Sonsie also need to be rewarded with a game or two.

With that in mind, it’s going to be tough for him.

Doing a great job considering our most important player is out.

I have nothing against Mini McWalter but im not buying into these wins being great

We are winning games that we are expected to win with the talent on hand and if anything we should have buried the eagles & Hawks and gained 15%

I also see the nucleus of our next years team that have been developing in the magoo's that could make an impact next year

Apart from Paul Roos has a interim coach ever been successful and lasted longer than 5 years ?

we have 'witches' in our player ranks?

sorry, couldn't resist.:$

He would get my vote if he played Clarke instead of Pickett and Brown instead of KMac.
I really think Pickett's head is just not right. Either that or he is carrying an injury. His drop-off in pace from the start of the year to now is startling.

Clarke is a beauty and I think Brown has shown enough to be given a go as well. His game will grow as he is played in the seniors just like Banks's has.

This is a bit different to most interim coaches that come in after a coach is sacked and the club is at an all time low, ours was a fairly smooth transition and the fact is we have played a number of teams in the 8 and he is sitting at 6 - 2 with the two being Brsibane in brisbane which was a low point and a 10 point loss to Port.

If we go with another coach and Im okay with that if thats what the "process" decides is best for Richmond, then you can bet there will be a few clubs looking at Mini as a coach.

Without a doubt if Mini doesnt get the job then the assistants will be mostly gone with maybe Morris and Clarke remaining
teague , Mini , rutten will all surely be at another club specially if Dimma gets the GC job

Let me know an interim coach that was actually part of a successful coaching era , list them below ⬇️

the main reason i would got at 2 instead of 3 is, usually the new coach gets 3 years as it takes 1 year to establish systems, tone etc.

This is effectively Mini's first year already & he is quite literally carrying over all the same systems and tone that Dimma had already established. If we give him 3 years, we are effectively giving him 4 years including 2023. I think as others have stated - hiring a caretaker who is basically using someone else's system probably means you miss out on the 3rd year

jacks the foil, pay him no respect and he'll quickly put 2 onya,w/o a doubt the reason hes selected

Let's be realistic here for a change we played 1 and half quarters of good footy yesterday and that win is covering over alot of cracks and issues. Mini subbed of Young because he had no match up as he mentioned. Barass from hawks went off wasn’t no super move.
