I feel like a chunk of Collingwood supporters jumped behind GWS after the prelim...but feelings don't mean s**t.
GWS will have more support than ever before for an interstate game. I seriously doubt 50/50 but much better than the 2017 prelim.

I do agree they have generated a lot of respect from neutrals after the Brisbane and Collingwood wins. Both tough games in tough conditions, undermanned, away, etc. Basically won both against the odds.

With the amount of talent GWS still have in they can totally beat us. Not to be taken lightly.

I’m hopeful they just won’t be able to go with us for the full four quarters though. Last two matches they’ve totally stopped in the fourth and just barely hung on both times. Yeah they’ll be up and about early on with the adrenaline of a grand final, but the physical and emotional toll of two incredibly tough weeks will make it mighty tough for them to run this one out.

If this was last year and we were playing GWS coming off three finals (two interstate) in a GF I'd be ecstatic and would be very disappointed if we lost. The longer the week has gone, the more I think this could be a belting. This Richmond side will solidify themselves as a great team, similar to how the cats did in 2009 after winning in 2007. The odds are right I think.
The odds are moving towards GWS, and yet, over 70% of the public is on Richmond. This stinks big time. Giants will get up

This is exactly what I'm thinking. GWS running out of juice in that 4th quarter... I wonder if that was their petrol spent for the season. They literally stopped. If that carries over to next week, they'll be done by quarter time. Tigers on the other hand stepped up a gear in the 2nd half. I see two contrasting situations.
A lot of posts I'm seeing giving GWS a huge talk up are only relating to skill level of players. The very simplistic view of... GWS has a great midfield and it will beat Richmond's midfield. But it goes so far beyond that. Richmond are surely fresher and will be ready for an MCG belting. GWS would be fatigued after 2 brutal games, one of them in the wet, travelling all over the country every week, and all the energy spent on the Greene saga, as well as how making a raft of changes next week to bring these guys back in could actually unsettle their chemistry.

I won't write GWS off completely. They are a good team, but taking into account the simple physical and mental load they have had to endure over the past 2 weeks... I would say Richmond entirely have the wood over them. Bookies aren't wrong 2 weeks in a row. All those people that bet on GWS last week, now thinking the odds are crazy.. well the odds are that way for a reason.. otherwise GWS would be favorites.

The way I see it going.. GWS' only chance is to get out to an early lead of at least 30 points. Because the longer this game goes, they will run out of gas. And even if Richmond are down 5 goals in the 4th... every chance they'll do what Collingwood did and if it's dry they'll run over top of them.
They were already wrong 2 weeks in a row, Brisbane were significant favourites. And yes, bookies are always wrong 2 weeks in a row

GWS have been really good at sitting on opposition mids. For this reason I think it will be a close game, especially if they employ their rough-house tactics.

Most interested to see who DeBoer goes to. Obvious one is Martin, but with him spending time up forward they might not tag.

Prestia the next logical one. Been in great form and uses it beautifully.

Cotchin?

Edwards probably too much of a runner for DeBoer so he might get Kennedy or Reid.

So...

My guess is DeBoer goes the hard tag on the smaller Prestia and tries to win enough of the ball himself.

And if GWS really get stuck into anyone else it might be Cotchin. He's a real barometer and does a lot of 1 percenters. If you want to upset Richmond target the Captain.

I'm not saying this will work, in fact the only team who won recently on the back of a lot of overt physicality was Hawks v Swans. However its GWS's game style so they should stick with it.

This is exactly what im hoping for and think will happen but am still worried that their mids & Fowards could do enough damage in the first half, Richmond need to be within 20 points at half time if GWS get the jump

Giants will put on a good show for 3 quarters, but tigers will kick 5 in the last and win by 12 points. Grimes for norm smith

Yes

Imagine if the tigers didn't beat a side that had

Cameron
Green
Himmleburg
Finlayson
Deboar
Haynes
Whitfield
Davis
Hopper
Torranto

Would be embarrassing I agree with you

How you've left Kelly out of this list when he's practically their best player I'll never know. Williams too

Just to add, still think Richmond by 40+.

Giants:

- don't play the G amazingly well (doesn't really suit their stoppage style due to the space, and they're still somewhat inexperienced there). Yes, they beat Collingwood in an incredible win but that was a huge choke from the pies.

-will be tired after the last two weeks (as seen in both final quarters).

-been constantly traveling these past few weeks

-still missing some key players (ward and cogs), plus injury/soreness clouds over Davis and Whitfield

-They'll be nervous; whereas Richmond have been there and done that. I think this will be the biggest factor tbh - sort of similar to Freo (who failed to capitalise) and west coast in 13 and 15.

Richmond are the best team in the comp at the G, because they like to rush the ball and spread. Only thing that I think gives the giants any chance would be if it gets properly wet and the scoring is incredibly low, and obviously the talent is there but it requires more than that.

A giants win would be incredible for all sorts of reasons.

De boer will definitely go to dusty.

IMO without dusty, the Richmond midfield is a level below the giants. I actually think the giants will give them a bit of a touch up around the stoppages. Whether they convert that to points on the scoreboard is the biggest question.

Yeah teams do dominate possessions against us in our wins. However, I’m pretty sure it was raining at least in the first quarter of that game.

STAT under this finals system , teams who won an interstate prelim have won the GF (ex bris 04 but "home game")
- bris 03
-swans 05
-eagles 06
-hawks 15
-dogs 16

-gws 19 ??
