Rising Star 2020

Serong is already one of the Dockers best decision makers in heavy traffic at a stage of his career where most players are trying to adjust to the pace. He’s tough as nails (got fined for melee on debut), good on both sides and knows where to find the ball. His footy IQ is phenomenal AND he is a good tackler. He has attended more stoppages than any other Docker this season which speaks volumes for how he is rated internally.
I haven’t seen enough of the others to say who deserves the rising star but it would take a special player to eclipse him (bar Rowell who I’m ruling out of this year).

If Riccardi plays his next 3 games like his last 3, would he be a chance. He’s averaging 8 marks a game - 4 inside 50. Max King is averaging less than 3 marks in total.
That’s pretty incredible. Also averaging nearly 3 goals a game.
We've been chatting about this over the last few pages :)

If Riccardi kicks a bag this week in Adelaide he's well in contention. He's given the Giants a completely different look. They can now be far less precise going inside 50 as he can clunk from 3 deep in a pack.
The kid has a massive tank too. He's been outworking his opponents up to d50 then blitzing them on the way back to goal. The little tap ons and creative possies have stood out also. Lots to like

Hogan needed 44 goals to win from 20 games.

18 goals from 6 games shouldnt do it.

Pretty elite contested work up against Dusty with some serious skill to clear the contest and get Freo in the clear.

Think Riccardi just doesnt have the games to catch up but Anderson and King are a real shout, they've been just as consistent and King for a young KPP they might rate as more impressive, although Serong is putting up some big numbers for his TOG% but is getting that opportunity in the guts to shine.

EDIT: Ignore the fyfe one, promise i'm not trying to make this about freo

King, Anderson and Rankine have had too many games where they’ve gone missing and in several instances the latter 2 have even been a liability to the team. Ricciardi has had 2 good games at a level that Serong has been consistently producing throughout the year. Rowell nowhere near enough games.

Serong has far and away had the best season out of all mentioned, not even a contest.

No bias there mate, jog on

Just rapt Riccardi got picked by The Giants.

He would have been impossible to like if he was drafted by the Pies.

Dare say they probably would have beaten The Lions last night if they had him:)

From that point of view Riccardi is even more of a feel good story 😀😀

Serong needs another good game to seal it

If Riccardi has another couple of good ones he could be in it, still to early to tell

I'd be arguing it's out of Anderson and Serong, Serong with the lowest floor thus far, but Anderson with the bigger ceiling performance wise.

Gun to my head right now, Serong wins it, but he's not far enough ahead that if he has an average game this week and Anderson has another standout that that opinion wouldn't change. Based on the above and watching the games, i'd consider them neck and neck, with Serong getting the vote purely on his poor performances being better than Anderson's thus far.

I'd also argue though that if the award is given to the 'best eligible player' and not 'best season by an eligible player' then even after only 4 full games Rowell proved that he was it. 3x BOG's in a row and his 'down' performance being a 19 disposal, 4 tackle, 3 clearance game in round 1 vs Port Adelaide. Should Riccardi continue his current run, under the same premise I'd have him 2nd in the award provided he doesn't drop off. His impact for GWS is very noticeable.

Great post, but wait for the hordes to flock and tell you Rowell can't win it (though some will tell you Riccardi can).

Right now I'd be voting
