I know that, just being a bit sinister. ;)

Its just one of those anomolies with the nomination process, that a player nominated in Round 1 gets nominated off almost zero form while by the time Round 22 comes around, theres a cast of thousands of worthy candidates. There are probably half a dozen that will miss out and would be better choices than some of those that were picked.

In an ideal world the 22 nominations would be made at the end of Round 22. But that would be no fun.

Good points - If Dalziell had played Round 1 and got 32 possessions, he'd have been the Round 1 nom. Now he might miss out despite having played 5 games.

Maybe there should still be 22 noms, but stagger them based on form
- starting after Round 5
- players have to have played min 5 games
- between 0 and 3 noms in a week based on longer-term form (not just that game that round - if there is no-one deserving that week then no nominations).

Lachlan Hansen from North Melbourne would have to be in the running. Just turned 20 and has played very consistently in a team that has won seven out of their last eight games against some very good sides.

How didnt Dalzeill get it on debut?
Lonergan has to be close, looks fantastic for the Dons, at times seems to be the only one trying in that midfield.

A few players really deserve one but of course some will miss out.
Dalziel should get one unless he gets 7 possies next week.

Other people who deserve ones are:
Lonergan
Jetta
Valenti
Mackay
Anthony
Bird

But I think round 22 one will be one of Chris Mayne or Simon Buckley.
Mayne has been terrific and Buckley is averaging over 20 possies a game all year. They both really deserve one.

He'd still get it.

there have been cases where an ordinary week has presented a nomination based on past matches.

Is as certain of a nomination as Geelong winning the big one.

Didn't more than 1 player get nominated in the last round a few yeras back?

FWIW anyone who only got a few late games and misses out will most likely get one next year and probably be a better chance at winning it. If Dalziel is not eligable next year he should get the next one. He's been good enough to deserve it.

A little surprised Cleve Hughes never got one.

Kicked something like 14 goals in 3 weeks.

...btw can people PLEASE stop saying it's an "absolute disgrace" or a "crime" if a player from YOUR team does not get a nomination?

If someone really is that good, they will get it. Otherwise it is you who is misjudging the situation.

When Cotchin got 25 possies in his 2nd/3rd game and wasn't awarded the nom, Tiger fans as a whole didn't make a fuss at all because we knew he was good enough to get it the next week (which he did).

Is the rule "less then 10 games" or "10 games or less"?

Because Carlile had played exactly 10 games over the 2 previous seasons and therefore may be ineligible

And three or four of those games were in September last year during finals, after the cut-off for the 2007 Rising Star. It would be deadset unfair if he was ineligible this year, after having only 6 or so games racked up by the end of the 2007 home and away series.

Would think Dalziell would be a shoe in unless he gets injured.

Mayne would be a chance if he plays a blinder but over the last few weeks he has been solid without being spectacular. I think he'll miss out but not overly concerned.

For a smoky West Coast's McNamara might be a chance, he has the ability to win a lot of the ball but is likely to be playing in a losing team so I wouldn't put any money on him.

Fair point. That leaves one spot remaining.

Maybe there should be a denomination process so players who have gone backwards can have their nominations revoked to make room for better candidates. Would be a bit of an insult, of course..........
What a ridiculous idea.
They earned it, and most new players' form is up and down.
