Autopsy Rnd 19, Hawthorn vs Geelong

We needed the Big Man, what can I say? He WOULD have been the difference, they would have to cover him and leave the others loose. If we play them in September and Buddy is playing and no other injuries, I think it will be a different result, but to be honest, I hope we don't play them again this year, they just pull the goals out of their asses.

Back to square one again - current gameplan did not stand up to Geelong's pressure and you'd have to think we'll be facing similar in finals. The ball is back in Clarkson's court.

Why did we lose tonight? Obvious that despicable first quarter effort killed us. That was Un-Hawthorn like and utterly inexcusable. Clarkson should have dropped a man (or even two) back into defense to plug the leaks before they got out to a FOURTY FIVE POINT quarter time lead.

Hale was rubbish, absolutely smashed by a VFL grade hack in Stephenson. Bailey is our man for September I think. Cannot afford to let an opposition ruckman bend us over that way in September, exactly the same thing happened last time we played the Cats with Ottens.
For most of the game our midfield was trash. Blokes like Whitecross, Smith, Savage (did he play?), Suckling (was he the sub?) and so forth wilted under the pressure. Smashed at center bounces all night. Same old story from earlier in the year.

Great comeback but very very disappointing loss. Our weakness have been fully exposed for every other club to see. It also perpetuates the myth that was are chokers against Geelong, which I suppose going purely on results you'd have to say we have been. Very very disappointing night of football.

What a load of shit.
We were jumped by a hubgrier team in the first and played as tge better team from then on.

No knee jerk required here, stone wall htb. Stone. ****ing. Wall

as all Geelong and Hawthorn supporters do, we hang shit all the time...it's only due to the amount respect both teams and supporters have toward one another but mad respect to Hawthorn tonight.

To come back from 51 points down and literally have the game for the taking is definitely what separates the few from the rest of the pack.

Umpiring was pretty ordinary all night but no doubt these two clubs will be hard to beat in the finals.
Franklin is seriously going to be a slight dilemma because your forward setup now is pretty switched on with so many goal kickers at any one time.

Again, sorry that there was a loser, a draw most likely would have been a fitting ending but you lost no fans tonight and just needed a little extra composure to finish off next time around.

You blokes had the umpires on your side majority of the night.

5 goals directly from bullshit frees.

give it a rest you were beaten by a better team - 9 times in a row

We gave you a 9 goal head start and it took a kick after the siren from a ball that should've been in Cyrils hands to win. It does look like arse beats class once again.

It must be hurting right now but that was one seriously good game of footy. I have focused on a qtr like that in a logn long time. To come back from so far behind shows amazing spirit from your team and you should be proud of the effort but obviously dissapointed with the result.

It's official.

3 points to be confirmed from tonights game.

1 - The hoodoo is real.
We cannot beat this mob and come finals, if we play them it's all over. We were fielding our best team barr Buddy, we were in red hot form and we still lost.

2 - Our 2012 premiership window has been slammed shut.
With that loss and a near certain loss to the Swans in Sydney will see us finish 4th at best, maybe even 5th. That means an interstate final first up, possibly 2 and needing to win four finals to win the flag.
Not going to happen. Bye bye 2012. Semi finalists at best.

3 - We choke in pressure games against quality opposition. I've said it before, no point whipping crap teams if you can't match the intensity brought on by the condenders.

Don't anybody dare say " we were brave to come from so far behind, blahh blahh blahh ! .. That a load of crap because we should never have let them get a 9 goal lead in the 1st qtr. I am beside myself with anger at the lack of intensity in that 1st qtr. Had us chasing all night. May aswell start pre-season now folks because that is the end of us this year.
I cannot be proven wrong because facts are facts, reality is real.

I know you're hurting guys... But to come from 51 pts down in the first qtr to a team like Geelong, shows the rest of the competition why the Hawks are clearly the number 1 team... Unbelievable game!!!

Once again, we play Geelong and our year derails slightly as they gain impetus. Thankfully this time we have some slight respite ahead rather than killer games but seriously, which one of you made the deal with the devil? Sure, I thank you for the premiership, I just wanna know how long the deal is supposed to last for? Just gimme a clue. Something...

I have a feeling this loss won't derail our year but rather ignite much like the Richmond game. To go down by 51 points (IIRC) and to come back and to JUST get pipped in the last dying seconds will hurt the boys. If this isn't the kick up the arse we need before the finals then I don't think my heart can handle the next one.

This game was the season defining moment, and had massive consequences. Before the game I would've said a loss would have hurt us but after seeing that fight and come back I feel that we are going to be a stronger team out of this.

Still fking shattered though. Gieschan has some things to answer for both sides.

No 23 in the Superman cape is coming to save the day, seriously i would rather we lose a game prior to finals rather than carrying in a 13 game winning streak. We will learn and be better for it.

I don't see how Puopolo's bad decision is any worse than Sewell's decision to play on. Savage was a poor choice for sub as well. Probably needs a spell at BHH.

Some points.

a) The first quarter was like the early 90s. Unorganised, undisciplined un-everything
b) If we had trailed by 3 points at 1/4 time the result would have been the same
c) Lay off Puopolo. He's a second year player and kicked some good goals, made some good tackles and harrassed.
d) Direct your frustration at someone like Hodge if you like. The guy is the captain of the club and was annihalated. Poppy missed a goal but Brent Guerra has played over 150 games and gave away a stupid kick to Podsiadly. There's a goal right there. I was dumbfounded.
e) We need to try Stratton on Hawkins. Stratton flys for the ball, and doesn't play the man. Chris Langford used to say it was the only way to beat Gary Ablett Senior.
f) If Travis Cloke is asking a million a year, seriously, what is Hawkins worth. He is a genuine superstar. A genuine superstar.

To numb to type anything else.

This won't effect our top 4 spot as we will the next two, but we will never beat the Cats if we play them in the finals we just cave in when ever we get in front. We should of slowed the game down when up with 2 minutes to go instead of rushing kicks forward
