Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Brisbane are a much better "team" than Richmond. They might have a lot of "no-namers" but they're a much more even side than the Tiges, and are much better defensively one-on-one all over the ground. Despite bringing his club to it's knees with his bizzaro recruiting a few years ago, Vossy is currently a much better gameday coach than Hardwick. Expecting a more competitive game. Blues by 40 to 110 points, pulling away in the 2nd half.

:)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

are brisbane any good or are melbourne just that bad?

either way we will win next week. but we may be in for a bit of a fight

Nope. Melbourne are awful...

Expecting another 10 goal belting. Class difference is massive between Carlton and Brisbane...

Yep.
Melbourne made Brisbane look pretty good today. Not sure we'll go to Brisbane expecting an easy win, but given that we've got our sights set on a top 4 position, these games are MUST win.

Will be good to see how Kreuzer & Hampson go up against Leuenberger & Hudson.

Also, don't underestimate the 5 day turnaround and the the fact it was 29 degrees in Melbourne today.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

I'm actually preferring we have harder games now. We need to be "pushed" by opposition to help our development. Super easy wins aren't that useful. Hopefully this mob will put up some good competition.

:)

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Lions with their tails up at home isn't an easy prospect.

They usually remember theyre shite far later
In the season and drop off.

We should definitely win, but is a danger game.

Love to be two wins wins when we face the pies.

Going to this and next game. Can't wait!

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

But to answer a previous question, Melbourne are terrible.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Russel out

Ellard or Collins in as sub

Sugar to start.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

How good will bris be with REAL pressure??

I would Like to see lucas play a full game

Maybe sub Russell - Lucas to play or bring in Collins

Having said that it depends how they want to structure, didn't"t think jordie was too bad, we should win by 6 goals plus

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

Can we please get Gibbs out of the backline!

Now, I know I must've missed something, as judging by the MVP voting, he has inspired a few of us.

But his lack of intensity will prove damning in a game where our opposition are capable of punishing us. His creativity is, indeed, superb. But we will have to learn to live without that when playing good sides - Unlike Richmond, Collingwood/Hawthorn will capitalise, and convert these opportunities into momentum.

Specifically, Cotchin's second goal was a result of Gibbs not watching the play (this wasn't evident if watching on TV). He sold Curnow into a HTB situation resulting in a shot-on for Edwards early in the match - and shirt-fronted Henderson in the same passage. The number of times he sold others into trouble around the D50 was worrying in general.

Whilst he is no more prone to these types of errors than others in our backline, ie Yarran's missed tackle on Riewoldt, or Henderson's attempt at taking on Riewoldt, the number of errors he makes forward of centre is close to none.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

No change only Jamison possibly in. I am not certain to drop Russell or give him another go.

Brisbane are ok, Melbourne are not that good. You need to look who they lost from last year on their list and players injured and walked away. I say if i was a betting man clubs like Kangaroos, Fremantle are likely 2 clubs to make the 8 followed by Adelaide and yes Richmond lol. I think Mellbourne, Port Adelaide, Gold Coast, Western Bulldogs can already prepare for 2013. Brisbane and St Kilda are a dark horse what they do but unlikely to be top 8.

Wouldn't be against trialing him up forward in the 2's.

I don't know who'd you replace from our current side up forward for him. He played up forward against North, and he wasn't much chop there either. He'll probably play this season some time due to our new rotation policy that Ratten said he'll implement.

I'm not saying he won't be any good, but so far he hasn't shown much.

Think you're been a bit imbalanced in your assessment. .. especially in the second half Gibbs was inspired in the back line. .. It was the first game and decision making and skills were not perfect from any of the players, Murphy sold Judd up a river in the 3rd and he was polished most of the game. ..

That missed tackle from Yazz came after Gibbs covered Hendo and trashed Jack in a marking contest. .. His third man up and kicks from the back 50 were a real reason why we turned defence into attack in the last quarter. .. In the first half he was coming off the back of the square and mopping up the midfield work when the Tigers were killing us in the clearances. ..

Was looking forward to Gibbs playing that Daisy role off the back of the stoppages again this week. ..

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

if Jamison pulls up well , then he should be an auto inclusion and russell out No Brainer.
No use wasting him in th eseconds if he is fit

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

The way I see it, we don't really need Jamison for this one since Brown isn't playing and I'm backing Hendo to do the job on Merrit. Would love to see him out there but to play two games in 5 days along with the flight might put too much strain on him, let him rest another week and be fully fit and firing to go against the Pies when we really do need him out there.

Duigan should come in for Russell though. If he can't step up against Richmond then what chance will he have when we play the Pies? Let Duigan get some game time I don't think he's as prone to injury as Jamo so I'd be more comfortable with letting him travel to Brisbane and play up there. Russell will be trade bait this year imo.

Brisbane won't be easy to beat up there, they were really competitive today and I'm expecting it to be a bit of a fight but eventually we should run away with it. I reckon we'll win by about 5 goals.

Jamo played the full match out today, Duigan was rested for the last part I believe. Tells me Jamo is a lot closer to coming back of the two. 5 day turn around might be the only thing stopping that, but then Ellard and anyone else coming out of the twos will have the same problem. I still predict an unchanged lineup.

Re: Brisbane vs Carlton @ The Gabba. Thursday 7.40pm

I love Rusty, but I would drop him for Duigs this week.
I hope he regains his 2010 form, he was disappointing the other night.

If (I hope it doesn't happen) Waite is out, then I would try Hammer as a semi permanent forward, bring Duigs and try Russell on a HFF.

Like the whole Brisbane team? Jamo should play if he pulls up well.

Geez mate you sure you were at the right game?
Thought Bryce was a solid contributor all night, weather that was forward mid or BACK, I remember the incident you mentioned about Bryce running into one of our blokes well, it happened because he was committed to the contest and ball, do you not want Bryce to put his body on the line or something?

That's not at all why it happened. It happened because he sold Curnow into trouble and needed to make amends.

As I alluded to, I mark him harder because his game elsewhere around the ground is so polished. But I fear some of those lapses in concentration will see the better sides really capitalise.

Hopefully Duigan comes in and pushes him up the ground.
