Rule 1 - accept we will likely get smashed (but pray for an upset)

Rule 2 - realise Melb have a deep midfield with great run

Rule 3 - focus on development and skills

Rule 4 - bigfooty shitposting over rules your rules

OUT: White, Casboult, Macreadie
IN: Kerridge, McKay, Buckley

FB: Docherty Rowe Plowman
HB: Thomas Marchbank Simpson
C: Smedts Murphy E.Curnow
HF: Wright C.Curnow Armfield
FF: SOS Weitering Pickett

R: Kreuzer Cripps Gibbs

Int: McKay, SPS, Kerridge, Buckley

Need some more run in there desperately, and I'm done with Casboult. His work rate isn't there, and half of what he does with the footy undermines the team. McKay makes up the difference IMO, and after a month will likely surpass Levi's efforts. Granted, he'll be doing it via running power more so than Levi, but it's still a new dynamic for our line-up and will stretch the defence.

Macreadie is unlucky, but I think just adding some speed at ground level in defence and more midfield pressure will allow everyone to settle, and then we can introduce Macreadie back in.

In a few weeks I can see Williamson pushing Kerridge out of the team if his form trend continues, with Thomas, Armfield and Buckley being put under pressure by Fisher, Cuningham and Sumner. For now, they just need to get fitter and show four quarter performances in the VFL.
Not sure buckley or kerridge add anything and i think mckay needs a block of consistent games in the vfl before comming in.Macreadie would be stiff after only 1 match.

Depends on who goes out. Bringing in Buckley and Kerridge may not make much of a difference when it comes to skill, but will add some run and carry since the team we went with last night was just too tall and too slow.

Big lesson tonight from Bulldogs we should learn from. Not playing traditional big guy up forward as target. Open 50 with 3-4 mobile players who keep changing. Just kick the ball into space or advantage. Not only does it work but they are very efficient once in there. Allows extra mids as well.

I'd love to see us with Gibbs Wright Pickett SPS Cripps etc as options inside 50

Also looks like Boyd is matching up against Cox and Wood against Moore? Enough Dogs running back to make it 2 against one and neither have dominated. Makes me wonder if Rowe is needed to match up against the bigger forwards and instead, someone who could use the ball like Macreadie who's still a good size.

In an ideal world, I'd like out: Casboult, Thomas,White and Armfield and in: McKay, KJ, Palmer and Kerridge.

McKay, SOSJ and KJ makes a more mobile forward line, Kerridge and Palmer bring some more hard edge, run and rotations for the midfield.

Is like to see us a lot more mobile around the ground. Beveridge theory is talls are good if they can do the basics well otherwise go with runners. Bad talls are a major liability

I like your 4 out but I'd bring in Cuningham Sheehan Buckley & Alex S. Rowe second ruck

McKay in a few weeks. KJ not up to it

Will be interesting regardless. The match committee had to have put their hands up at the end of that game and admitted they got quite a few things wrong. Let's see how they attempt to make up for it.

Fair enough. For more run though i would bring in cuningham and perhaps Williamson off half back. We missed having a quality distributer from the back line.

Cloke...?

i was going to go to this game after seeing illy at festival hall on saturday but i decided not to watch a poleaxing.

Assuming Cas gets a week suspension, I'd swap White and Thomas for two runners like Cuningham and Buckley/Kerridge/newbie and bring in a small forward/mid like Sumner if he's fit. More to go through the midfield and our talls are enough as is.

And Boyd??

Didn't say it was for entire game but was for a lot of it. Boyd/Cloke played up the ground and in ruck through bench. At times went deep forward but lead up, almost like a decoy and left smalls alone. Impressive to watch. They effectively play with 2-3 less talls than we did last night or Pies did tonight.

15 goals and look who kicked them.

Hunter 3, Johannisen 2, Bontempelli 2, Picken 2, M.Boyd, Stringer, Cloke, Liberatore, Crameri, McLean

and they won!

TBH this is why i can't understand why we're going so tall.

If anything, the game is transitioning to having a good fleet of small/medium players as the winning formula...the Dogs won a premiership by doing this and running their opposition into the ground. Also allows them to keep putting on incredible defensive pressure all over the ground.

The talls they used throughout last year were Boyd, Cordy, Roughead, Campbell, Redpath, Hamling, Adams and Roberts ffs...on paper that is actually a super weak batch of talls. No big names except Boyd but even he was still just 'potential' more than output until the GF.

What's the point of having so many talls if, like against Richmond, we'll just be outnumbered at every contest and when the ball hits the deck?

The most important thing is having a strong, deep midfield so that the game is played on your terms.

With Macreadie, Plowman, Marchbank, SOSOS, Weitering & McKay we already have 6 young, talented KPPs which is more than enough.
Dogs basically only play like 4 KPPs in their team excluding ruckman. Looks like we'll play 6 moving forward.

Just throwing it out there - maybe we will go smaller once we have the players with the right foot skills available. For now, until we play better as a team and can pick our way through the opposition, we use plenty of talls who compete in the air.
