I’m heading down, last time I was there in 1989 or 1990 we got walloped, it was bloody windy as with players struggling to kick it 30 metres into the wind with the ball visibly going backwards in flight as the velocity of the kick dropped.

Pretty sure it was the year I made my one and only trip to the western oval and didn’t see us kick our only goal for the day.

Anyway, another Carlton mate is also joining and Geelong mate is driving....lots of time for some travellers...I’ll be raucous if we do get up!!

I can’t wait for this game. We competed with them for most of the game last year with a way worse team. Yes the injuries will make it hard but I’m gonna back Casboult in for Hawkins. Blicavs in the ruck makes it easier for Kreuzer and MM/Hazza. People underrating us in this matchup I reckon

It's his running ability, and it's always been his running ability. Don't obfuscate.

I don't give a s**t that he can take a grab for his size if he's averaging under 2 goals a game and not applying sufficient forward pressure. Even Levi recognised he had to improve his mobility...
I think you are being quick to judge.

Kennedy ran the 6th best beep at the draft combine and had the 3rd best running vertical leap as well. Athletically has something to work with. His quads look way too big and he needs to have the right running program to be an AFL footballer. I will back Russell to get him there ( at least for 1 more year) with an injury free preseaon.

I've been Langs harshest critic of late..but he did enough on Saturday to warrant his selection this week..Weiters in for an injured Gibbo i would assume to be the only change. unless there are other injury concerns we aren't aware of at the moment.

Yeah - which is the reason why I reckon he can get the fitness back required - he is only 22.

few touches but very effective in score involvements

Lang has averaged just under 8 possessions since returning in round 16 (inflated by 13 against the Suns), Stocker, Cuningham or even TDK would be a much better option.

I have been saying since this time last year, Kennedy needs to seek out the running coach Cripps hired at the end of his first year. The kid has a lot of talent and could be a very good player for us, just needs to cover more ground.

Look at what a bigger tank has done for JSOS.

I presume Gibbons will be out injured.

I would do the following:

Outs: Gibbons, DeLuca
Ins: Weitering, Stocker (put cuningham on ice, that knee is strapped pretty heavily, just get him right for pre-season)

Lang did enough to stay in. DeLuca's pressure is good but he's a liability with disposal/decision making. Stocker would give same effort but better disposal - plus great for his development.
I dont agree on Deluca. He kicked a goal under pressure and he lowers his eyes and look for options rather than blazing away so I don’t see how he is a liability with disposal or decision making. And as you say he applies a lot of pressure. He might not make best 22 next year when we have a healthy list and potential recruits but for now he should be in the side.

In: Weitering, Cuningham, Stocker
Out: Lang, Fisher, Gibbons

B: Plowman-------------------Casboult------------------Simpson

H: Thomas-------------------Weitering----------------Newman

C: Dow------------------------Cripps--------------------O'Brien

H: Cuningham--------------McGovern-----------------Silvagni

F: Kennedy-------------------McKay---------------------Deluca

Foll: Kreuzer, Setterfield, Murphy

Bench: E.Curnow, Walsh, Stocker, SPS
Good squad!

Assuming that Charlie and Cuningham return in 2018, where does Kennedy fit in the best 22? He'd presumably be fighting for the same spot as JSOS and we all know who would get picked on current output.
Good problem to have for a change ..
Anyone slacks off there's someone of quality to jump straight in..

Well I don't know if his current level of running ability is his limit - I suspect not. I do know that he is a good mark and kick at goal, a strong rather than a weak tackler and is plenty smart enough to give off to advantage around goals....and given current list situation it is understandable why he is one of a few battling it out for increasingly fewer on field options.

If he gets a decent pre-seaon, 2020 will show whether he is a starting player for Carlton or one of those decent depth players - which have precious little of anyway - right now it is speculation given the way he has been managed in 2017/18.

In this game I honestly don't have any strong preferences - except to say that Gibbons hurt his shoulder, DeLuca is a willing trier , lang insists on the 'one touch nonsense and from there it is someone else's problem' that Geelong players seem to be coached to and I haven't seen anything from Garlett or Owies to suggest that they would be better options. I agree that based on current exposed form on field his running is a weakness - especially when it comes to being able to apply repeat [pressure efforts. However - i do back him to kick a goal from 40 meters out and closer- something which too many Carlton players are incapable of as demonstrated week in week out.
Totally agree...one of our most reliable shots at goal and can mark. But he has to build his fitness over preseason.

He's shown he's capable in the last few months...there are tools to work with like his long, accurate kick and i think his handballing will be a feature like JSOS.

Started the Saints game on fire, with a good mark and goal to open the scoring and then a fantastic pick up and quick left-handed handball under pressure to JSOS for our second.

To add to the nice things he did in some previous games, like Freo where he snapped a goal from the boundary and kicked a booming goal from outside 50m.

Let's hope he lifts next year with an injury-free pre-season.

Lacks a bit of goal nous, but hasn’t spent much time forward. Has good hands, pace, toughness, skills etc

No can do - apparently last Saturday was our 'Grand Final' according to some Saints supporters.

In Amongst the joy and mirth of winning I forgot I could enhance my mood by partaking in a little schadenfreude on the saints board.
