Birch is a superstar, BOG for mine.

Some of the worst kicking for goal I've seen in any match. My sons U/12 team made the Hawks look average tonight, there were around 7-8 absolute soda's that were butchered. It was really tough to watch.

Melbourne are an absolute rabble and should've lost by 150 plus the way the match was played.

Obvious from the post match interviews that the boys werent really happy with the result, should have really been a 100 point plus win. Fremantle will at least make us play a bit better hopefuly! Wish I could get the last 3 hours back, it wasnt really enjoyable at all. At least we won I guess.

Well we dominated the game, had heaps more of the ball but we sure did waste it in front of the sticks. First quarter was poor, we had heaps of chances but didn't convert and the Dees went down the other end and slotted three with ease.

Happy with the win, glad we were able to kick away but it's a worry that we kicked 23 points. Simply not good enough at this level to spray so many chances and something that could hurt us against better sides (Geelong round 2 is a good example)

Anyone know what Osborne has done, didn't look good.

Don't wish injuries on anyone but it could be a blessing in disguise.

good, solid win after an indifferent opening. dour and dull game at times though but hey we take the 4 points, and the % booster, and move on.

unsure about the injury to ossie, he looked in a fair bit of pain. pretty poor kicking for goal though, many players missed some straight forward goals. buddy, breust, hale etc spring to mind. has been an issue at times this season but fortunate it did cost us tonight against melbourne who were pretty average after quarter time it must be said

A couple of comments: the couple of times Shoey pushed up the ground, particularly where he ran through the wing and delivered up forward, he looked dangerous and it gave us some extra dash and quick movement. I hope with Gilham and Gibson back, he can play that sort of role and it will really aid the team.

Secondly, there were a few occasions when we got the ball on the break - Smith in the last - but there were no options up field. Kind of like, 'what do I do here?' And for my liking we kick to the pockets/boundary too much, rather than bringing it square.

Tonight was a solid win against a poor side. The most pleasing aspect for me was how well our midfield performed. Our defense was also good, though that was partly due to Melbourne having no real threat other than Clarke.

Great game to Shoenmakers who again showed how good he could be playing as a HBF on the opposite side of the ground to Birchall. If only he wasn't required to actually guard an opponent of similar height I'd be saying we have a real star on our hands. Even so, his defensive efforts are improving which is really encouraging.

Lewis, again great game. Throwing himself into the bottom of packs always being great to see.

Gillham was pretty impressive given it was his first game back after being out for so long.

Savage again impressed me with his running and inside work. He's one player whos really improved on last season.

Bruest & Franklin... oh dear. Both lacking confidence and kicking like shit. It's lucky we weren't playing a decent side because with those two taking most of our shots I wouldn't be too confident. Goal kicking practice is desperately needed.

Hale, nice to see he had one of his best games for the year which went a long way towards helping us win the center clearances.

Clarkson... sorry but I still think our gameplan is rubbish and won't hold up against top 4 sides. Not the way we've been executing it this year. Our forwardline in particular must surely be one of the most wasteful in the AFL. We generate so very very few easy scoring opportunities that its no wonder we inevitably let opposition sides back into the contest.
I found watching Hawthorn games this year to be an incredibly frustrating experience. Despite having Franklin & Rioli we are no longer a good team to watch.

Any news on Osborne's injury? It looked like a knee from what I could tell.

All I know is...
