I never tip against Essendon, but I’ve already pencilled you in for a win, with the media describing it as “One of the most inspirational victories in Carlton’s history”

I so entirety, and utterly, completely hope you are right

For all those thinking Lang isn’t AFL fit yet, the very reason he plays 2’s is to get match fit and he’s had 2 games already.

If the last 2 games have bought him on to the extent he’s reasonably AFL fit next week, sure as hell he should be running around in the 1’s and not the NB’s.

And..an 80-90% match fit Lang, if managed probably (say playing more as a small forward than a mid) will still give us more than the alternatives. Really hope he plays.
He was named emergency this week IIRC

The drug cheats will be fired up trying to keep us winless for the season.

Simply must spoil their party, and I reckon we’ll be up for it. Even if we only win one for the season this has gotta be it.

Crippa to monster the clearances and rack up another 3 Brownlow votes dragging us over the line!
Yep :thumbsu:

I don't care who replaces him, but O'Shea must go... seriously. **** it, I'd rather JGM... an he has no hope of making it.

****, forgot about that. Yes, please remove O'Shea now. Cannot handle his mistakes anymore and he only been in there a week or two. He does not cope with AFL level intensity with decision making or execution it seems.

I can see us playing Joe Daniher into form, he will probably kick more goals this week than he has for the entire season put togther. I think most key forwards have their highest goals in a game against us.
People here keep calling for them to rush players back in so soon after injury. That is what poor clubs do, we may be a poor side currently but we dont have to be a poor club and make errors like that, although they have flirted with that.
Only play one ruckmen this week, Kerr has done enough the last few weeks in the VFL to deserve a spot in the seniors and weitering should come in after a good game yesterday.

Ambrose, Hooker and Hurly as big defenders

Stewart and Joe Dirt as big forwards.
Leverde and Striger med forwards

Think we may have some decent match ups there.

It’s just when this ball hits the deck we could be exposed. Anyone who has leg speed should be looked at as possible inclusions

Pretty sure he was named in the bests in a paper I read this morning, I’m worried they’ll cling on to him for another week

Keep the faith at least we didn’t run big Josh into form a few weeks ago

Must have been a journalist on the terps or Jon Ralph type. Probably got Mullett and O'Shea mixed up and thought he seen same player a lot and put him in best after his 9th drink on laptop typing out match report.

Hanging out bad for Murphy to be back. Just want to see him fit and well. We will win a few when he back.

The crap Murphy cops is ridiculous.
Alongside Cripps he is easily our best midfielder and our best running, link up midfielder.

With Murphy we probably beat West Coast, who we only lost to by 10 points.

I'd be far more confident of beating Essendon and even Melbourne if we had him for those games.

Out: Casboult (inj), Plowman (inj), O’Shea, Phillips, Mullett
In: Weitering, Lang, C.Curnow, Shaw, Kerr/De Koning

Lang to play at half-forward and rotate through the midfield. Shaw has looked pretty solid in the VFL, he's a genuine medium defender which is something that we've missed since Docherty and Byrne have been out - although I imagine if Marchbank is fit they will just bring him in instead. Kerr or TDK to play as third tall and maybe do some ruck duties.

Now that the wash-up has well and truly rolled through...

OUT: Plowman (inj), Rowe, Graham, Phillips, Casboult (inj), O'Shea
IN: Marchbank, Weitering, Murphy, Lang, C.Curnow, SOS/Polson

The last spot there comes down to how they'd intend to use SOS. Jack's intensity in this match will lift the team, and even though that third forward spot is there for the taking, I'd like to see him in the midfield. Mullett survives by a whisker.

Don't want to single you out here as others are backing the idea, but TDK isn't ready. His appetite is fantastic and his overall skill set exciting, but he doesn't hold his ground in ruck contests at VFL level, so if you're bringing him in, it's as a third forward.

Not sure he's consistent enough at that for AFL level at all.

I like those changes on paper, though i don't see us ever making 6 changes in a week.

I doubt Murphy will be ready though?
Also VFL watchers seem to think Lang looked short of run on the weekend...though with 2 games back i'd probably elevate him to the seniors anyway.

Would love a win, but got to be honest, I got no confidence until game day whom is available given our injury run and even false dawns of guys coming back , only to find they still out again. If we had Murphy, Curnow, Williamson, Cuningham, Pickett and Bryne would back us in but we probably only get Curnow back and even Lang needs more game time in VFL I would think before coming back.
Casboult out for Curnow the only certain change for now I would think. They may give Weiters another week in VFL but probably should be back but not sure how we can keep such a tall backline still. Fantasia, Devon Smith, Tippa and others should relish running around such tall backs.

Well Plowman had a corked quad so might miss...he's been in poor form anyway wouldn't mind if he was dropped.
Could bring in Marchbank and Weitering for 2 of Plowman/Rowe/O'Shea.

Fantasia is injured and from reading the Essendon preview thread, Tippa has been out of form this year.

Just a thought. How about trying Simmo as a defensive forward?

He's 34 and Docherty, Byrne, Williamson & Cuningham are all injured...why on earth would we move our only experienced small defender and leave Mullett as the only one??

Makes zero sense.

Yeah he had an off game but that doesn't mean you change him to a position he's basically never played in at the very end of his career, when we are crying out for run off half back.
