Robert Harvey: Most overrated player ever?

Now that I have looked back on some tapes, and on the advice of numerous PM's I admit I may have been mistaken with my previous posts.

I think it's safe to say Harvey is a good player - many many leagues below Riccardi but admittedly better than David Spriggs.
 
Harvey...what a dud.

Played well tonight, especially at the start. Set up their first three goals, just shows that if you don't respect the great man you WILL get punished.

On a side note, Bartlett looks like he's still got some leg left in 'im in that add.

Godd riddance to the old codger. Dragged his career out as much as he could to try and cash in.... just a deserving end to a career where he was babysat through the last few weeks of his tragic lack of success career.

This season (great effort at No. 22), it is severely noticeable that he only ever kicks 15 - 20 metres.

Everytime he got the ball, straight to Riewoldt, often with Riewoldt running a very long distance obviously aware of the distance it will travel.

I remember him as a stand out getting over 30 touches a game before it was so common (given all the backwards & sideways kicking nowadays)...

Over-rated? Not sure he's rated with the likes of Voss, Hird, Buckely...certaintly a good player though.
 
Congrats on a sensational career Harvs. Champion on and off the field. Stood with the rest of the 77000 people there tonight and gave him the standing ovation he deserved.
Now let's give it a real crack Hawthorn. Our champion and warrior[Crawf] deserves a crack at the ultimate prize!
 
harvey is a legend of the game. how dare people say he is overrated, in his prime he was untouchable...literally. seriously some people are dead set idiots. this guy is an ornament to the game and a champion of stkilda and the afl

I believe back in the days of Polly Farmer and Newman, it was a different time. Goals were not nearly as important as the players were out there for prestige, to showcase their skills to the public. Hence, how they played the game is what mattered, not the result at the end of the day. so clearly I don't take into account how many goals they scored when rating them.

However, when the game unified in 91 and became the AFL, winning started to become more imporant due to commercialism and the need for sponsorship. In Harveys era to today, winning is more important than ever. And how do you win? By kicking goals.

To anyone who understands AFL and its history, it's perfectly clear that Mackie, Stokes and Lonergan are far superior to a lackluster Harvey. Grow a brain.

So by your theory Gary ABlett, Tony Lockett and Buckey are not legends as they never won a premiership? Your as dumb as the OP. Whats going on here ? You guys don't really barrack for Carlton right?
 
Robert Harvey Retires............. I miss the reason why everyone is bagging the shit out of him, if he retired last year with the Hird, Buckley, Roo and Archer retirement it wouldnt be as much attention to Harvey but he's leaving in a year that Grant, Basset, Everitt, McManus (not bagging these players) of course Harvey is gonna stand out.
