Geez, Calder Cannons had 3 in the top 10 that year

2012 AFL draft Wikipedia the free encyclopedia.png
Incidentally Atkins and Gregory were the last two drafted that year (excluding rookie elevations). Gregory is delisted, so Atkins is the highest remaining draftee of 2012. (would be interesting to know who are the highest remaining draftees of each year, but I'll have to leave that for another day)

Not still trying to back up your delist call earlier in the thread? :D:D:D:D

He does kick to the opposition early and it's usually because he overcooks a kick. Seems to take him about a quarter to warm up; suspect it's an experience thing, and he'll settle by the time he reaches 50 games around the end of next season, hopefully earlier.

Look I love this kid as much as Peter J but let's be realistic. You know it would be top three.
Yeah yeah, talk it up lol
I was actually thinking it takes him a little bit to get used to the pace of the game and at the start he thinks he going to be under a bit more pressure than he actually is so he rushes his kicks. Then he calms down a bit and takes the time he has.

The one aspect id like him to work on is strength.

If he could bulk up over the offseason, i think it could complete his game.

He's already slippery as it is, if he also had some muscle, hed be impossible to tackle.

With the type of game he plays bulking up will not slow him down, but add to his explosiveness.

He's already been through 4 pre-seasons, he's probably not the type of player who can bulk up.

It takes midfielders longer to bulk up than key position players, as it is a more aerobic position.

I don't need him to be massive, but I want him to work on his strength, which I think he can still do at his age.

Jeez that was an average draft, includes a few busts in the top 10 and not a great deal of quality in the draft itself. Atkins would be in top 10 if not then definitely top 15. Doggies cleaned up but they had 2 picks inside 10 picking Stringer and Macrae and they did get Hunter as a father son.

Our own Troy Menzel was selected at 11 that year as well.

He did this over the summer. Club were very happy with his progress. Think that will continue to improve over the coming years.

Wonder if it is polite for RAt to bring up that fact at training? :)

Would go top ten in the 2012 draft if it was redone right now.

Hmmm. This is how I'd do the top 20 (ignoring F/S and academy shit):
  1. Jake Stringer
  2. Jack Viney
  3. Joe Daniher
  4. Jackson Macrae
  5. Ollie Wines
  6. Lachie Whitfield
  7. Jackson Thurlow
  8. Lachie Hunter
  9. Kyle Hartigan*
  10. Nick Vlastuin
  11. Dane Rampe*
  12. Troy Menzel
  13. Rory Atkins

  19. Jono O'Rourke
  20. Kristian Jaksch
Other players of note: Plowman, Corr, Hrovat, Stewart, McIntosh, Ramsay, Wood, Membrey, Hutchings, Taberner, Towers, Oxley, Frost

Nice, didn't even think about Hartigan, but how much of Menzel's previous output should count?

I'd move Vlastuin out to 20 and move the others up 1. Showed a lot of promise but has stagnated a bit now.

Will Atkins like Goodwin get away with no right side for 250 games? Surely this can be worked on?

99% of left footers get away with it their entire careers. I watched Matt Suckling wheel on to his heavily defended left foot yesterday all because he can barely scrub one 15 metres on his right.

Lefties live off the fact that most blokes are used to defending the right hand side of an opposition player.

I don't think he's ever going to have any issues with it being an outside mid

Vlaustin out. Hes no good.
Take out the rookies and just assume only those that were taken get retaken otherwise it gets messy. Hed be ahead of Menzel now and arguably equal with thurlow. So at best could be 8th. And thats before i begin my opinion on Daniher.
