A true mercenary in every aspect.
Clearly a flog of a bloke too
No surprises col young’s his manager and no surprises he matched up with Rosichs daughter, their tik toks are next level cringe

the best outcome from here is for Steve to get the vacant ceo job and Rory join him so they all reunite with ol Rossy down at moorabbin…

Isn’t every single Neck Nock cringe?

Tigers, North and Saints would be moronic IMO. Dee's and Pies make sense, seems the exact thing the Pies would to do to be honest who seem very very good at identifying someone to play a specific role and getting them
It would be moronic because it’s Lobb. My point was those three teams need someone who plays Lobbs position (key forward who assists in the ruck).

There would absolutely be a market for any contender in need of a backup ruck for a few years.

It's remarkably simple for me. He can walk to the Pies or Demons for their second round picks (35-40) before they're pushed back. That's a fair trade for both sides and if we were genuinely prepared to keep him, then we do hold some leverage as a contracted player.

Lobb would walk into both teams best 22 and help them immensely IMO.

The teams that make sense from a positional point of view are North, Saints, Dees, Tigers and Pies.

But it’s Rory Lobb, so who knows. His salary is actually really low at around 400k or so, he’d likely play regular footy at at least four of the clubs I mentioned.

I also don’t really have an issue with us getting him. He was there to provide cover and allow Darcy to develop but it’s obvious a developing Darcy is a significantly better player than an established Lobb.
How is his salary low? No way he went to the dogs for that sort of cash. They poached him when he was in good form and offered him a long term deal. There was no way he would have taken an average AFL salary to move across the country, his salary has to be around 600K.
His form at the dogs has been poor and he is 32 at the start of next year with 2 years to go on his contract. By the time his contract ends he will be almost 34.
The Dogs are looking to free up cash to pay Smith and English. The whole thing stinks.

Because we offered him a 4 year deal

I think there is about a 50% chance that he could benifit us if he was on our list, the whole thing looks like a salary dump to me. I would consider him if his salary was dirt cheap for a 4th rounder or if the Dogs are looking for someone to cover his salary (which I suspect is large), I would want a pick coming our way. But even then I hope we stay away. A second rounder for a 32 year old who hasn't really played decent footy at the Dogs is delusional. I would much prefer we give a second rounder for a player like Moyle. The Dogs need his cap space for Smith and English.

He signed a 1.5m deal, over 4 years. $375K per season, relatively speaking that's peanuts.

His form at the Dogs hasn't been that bad, he has been a goal a game forward ruck who can pinch hit in the ruck, whilst generally playing as the third tall forward (behind Naughton and Jamarra). He's no Joe Daniher and has fallen behind Sam Darcy but I think he's still capable of being the player he was in his final year at Fremantle when being targeted a bit more.

It's no skin off my nose if we keep him or not though to be honest, if he leaves we're going to have to replace him with ruck depth that'll likely cost the same. I really don't think his salary will make a lot of difference to Smith and English, we aren't really paying a lot of players a lot of money at the moment.

I agree that the Dees need a Forward that can pinch hit in the Ruck to give Max Gawn a chop-out. As I have stated earlier that's not Rory Lobb. If he was any good he'd still be at the Giants and playing 250+ games. Problem is that, instead of working his everything off to get back into the senior line-up, he is a 207 cm crybaby and sulks and whines when somebody younger gets the nod over him. Happened in Freo when they traded for Luke Jackson and now, at the Dogs, when Sam Darcy is improving at a greater level from week to week.

The 1.5 million reported in the news was a 3 year deal. They got the 3 year deal part wrong so I'm guessing they got the 1.5 million part wrong as well.

Yep - completely reasonable to expect that the deal is 500k per year, but until another number comes up it's not really worth it to try and figure out what he's actually on because it really comes down to whether other clubs would take it on and at this stage Tom Morris and Jon Ralph are both reporting that several clubs are interested so the salary likely isn't an issue, for us or for who ever ends up trading for him.

Wouldn't be surprised if wherever he goes that the Dogs are paying some of the wage regardless of what he's on.

He's not on a lot. It's not like the Grundy/Treloar situation.

He wanted to come to Melbourne we didn't really poach him out of Freo on a big deal.

He's not a gun but there are few AFL better key forward/2nd rucks in the league. He's unlucky because Darcy has gone past him and at Freo Jackson was clearly better.

Actually might make sense for the Pies surely a better footballer than Cox at least and he gets to stay in Melbourne. Carlton makes some sense too if they offload Pittonet.

Buyer beware. This is how Rory Lobb leads into the pocket...

Second rounder?

What would you pay for Mason Cox? Lobb is a year younger and offers about two possessions a game more over his career.

A contender isn’t going to care about a second rounder. Maybe it’s a second a swap somewhere whether it be in the future or this year. Probably depends whether the Dogs are paying if they are might get a fraction more or whatever

He is a much better option than the current version of Ben Brown and Schache even if he's below average. He'll give you a contest in the air bare minimum up forward and he is decent in the ruck in short bursts.

I mean yeah, but he cracks the sads too often. He's done it at Freo and your club is having to deal with that baggage now.

There is a difference between trying your guts out to be selected and the panel saying no and giving a substandard effort on the training track and sulking around like a spoiled child thus justifying to Bevo and the staff why you are not selected.

In short, love his physical attributes, who wouldn't want to be 207cms(aside from being in an airplane), hate his lack of mental resiliency, however.
