Beams, Hanley, Rich, Rockliff

Who cops the tag?

I'd love Rich to be let off the chain but I think he is far to damaging to be allowed 20+ disposals
Thoughts?

Gee you are going to have a great midfield with lots of rotation options next year and one that can kick a lot of goals. Who tags/plays the run with role though?

Ta. Leppa thus far hasn't liked using a designated tagger. He's more inclined towards "more accountable head-to-head match-ups". eg Rocky/Sam Mitchell. ie not just focused on the defensive aspect. Try to burn 'em going the other way etc.

Having said that, we've got a new stoppages coach, poached from the Tiges, so we'll see how off-season develops. I can see CBeams being developed in a more defensive role.

So we will add Rich, Beams and Christensen to our midfield- 3 more A graders than we had last time we took too the field....unreal

Foll: Leuenberger, Beams, Beams
Int: Mayes, Aish, Christenson
Sub: Mcguane

FB: Adcock Clarke Gardiner
HB: Hanley Maguire Cutler/McStay
C: Mayes Rockliff Rich
HF: Zorko Close/Freeman Taylor
FF: Green Leuenberger Staker

Foll: Martin Redden Beams
Bench: Aish, Christensen, Bewick, Robertson

I think the key to this list will be having a good line general in the forward and back lines. Maguire and Adcock are both excellent at this so that should be fine.

However up forward we need someone to really step into this role. The gaping hole we have on our list is a forwars that can command traffic and position everyone (basically a Brown). The best player for this role would have to be Staked at this point in time, however I would be pretty happy with McGuane to surprise me and pop up in this role. He has been a bit of a forgotten man but he had a good season in 2013 at Richmond and I hope he can recapture that form.

The question will be weather we see 2015 as a genuine chance at finals as this may shape our decision on how many kids we play each round.

B. Harwood, Merrett, Gardiner
HB. Hanley, Clarke, Adcock
C. Rich, D.Beams, Taylor
HF. Zorko, McStay, Mayes
F. Martin, Freeman, Green
R. Luenberger, Rockliff, Redden
I. Christensen, Paparone, C.Beams, Aish

All very close
Staker, West (once fit), Cutler, Robertson, Lester, Bewick, Golby, Dawson, Close, Goose

Really excited about the list, we have one of the strongest midfields in the league with Beams and Christensen now in the mix! Back line looks solid, if we can fast track the development of Freeman, Close and McStay as key forwards, 2015 looks very exciting!

Thats a great 22 with some real depth... development of the big forwards in the next priority

Sorry for the intrusion guys, but what do you reckon the time frame for your forwards would be? Next year?? Tempted to unload a serious bet on you guys to make the 8 next year, especially once the Beams trade is done.

Hard to tell with big guys, I'd love to think they'll be very effective in 2015, but 2016 is more realistic. McStay looked the most ready of the big forwards and should be able to contribute straight away in 2015. I like both Close and Freeman though - hopefully they keep developing.

If those forwards can start putting in solid performances week in week out than finals are not beyond us next year!

Go Lions!

Just reinforcing what NJ said, it is so hard to tell with big guys. I'm quietly confident though that Close will take another big step up, along with McStay & Gardiner (had a limited pre-season this year), but Patfull's left some big shoes to fill. McGuane & Staker *could* play a role, but who knows if there bodies will hold up? Will all that be enough? Get back to us after pre-season (yeah, not what you want to hear).
