West and Darcy confirmed out now, Dogs won't challenge.

Handy for us.

Feel like West is that random forward who would kick 4-5 on us.
I feel like Darcy is that big tall prototype forward with strong hands who would kick 4-5 on us.
So that is 8-10 goals taken away so that sounds good to me.

Our missed shots on goal by experienced players really has been a team momentum killer in games.
Hopefully it will turn around. Simply put to make the 8 or win more games than we lose it will have to.
This year with our 3 leading goal kickers it is 50/50 that they likely miss, whereas last year they likely kicked the goal.
Daniher: This year 20.21 Last year 61.37
Cameron: this year 18.16 Last year 59.27
Hippy: This year 11.10 Last year 41.29
We are halfway through the season so likely all three will fall well short of their 2023 tally.
Zac bailey was our 4th biggest goal scorer in 2023 but he has only played in 6 games and missed 5.
At least his accuracy has been good.
Bailey: This year 7.2 last year 29.19

Lohmann sits 3rd on our goal scoring this year at present with 14.10.
He is making up for the absence of McCarthy and Bailey to some extent even though he has played all 11 games the first 3 being as sub.
Our experienced forward scoring problem becomes more obvious when you compare after 11 games played in 2023.

After 11 games:
Total 2023: 158.105
Total 2024: 131.109
Difference: -27.4 (down 23 team total shots on goal)

Charlie 2023: 32.10
Charie 2024: 18.16

Joe 2023: 30.16
Joe 2024: 20.21

Hipwood 2023: 16.11
Hipwood 2024: 11.10 (played 10 games 2023 vs 9 games 2024).

KeyFWD total 2023: 78.37
KeyFWD total 2024: 49.47
Difference: -29.10 (down 19 shots on goal)

The rest of the team have actually been more accurate this year:
Total rest of team 2023: 80.68
Total rest of team 2024: 82.62

Lohmann/Morris/Ah Chee, are making up for the likes of Gunston/Bailey/Ashcroft/McCarthy.

West is being challenged, he will get off.

I'm currently sitting, re-evaluating my ability to read. I never got those smart book learnings up here in Brisbane you know. Cut me some slack.

Bailey Banfield-eqsue. Or Nathan Eagleton if we want to go back even further.

Feel like Josh Jenkins really stuck the boot in a few times when we were down too.

Darcy and Naughton out definitely helps. Andrews to Lobb is most likely matching up the height and then hope that Payne can go with JUH.

English is still the one that worries me. He seems to kill us everytime we play. For what ever reason he is able to rack up a heap of ball and marks all over the ground.

English can definitely outrun and outwork Oscar around the ground, but he is a very weak tap ruck. Oscar needs to be physical with English

I would like to know how the player rating is calculated. I don't feel Joe has been as bad as the player rating indicates in the general play... but goalkicking and marks in F50 has been a clear dropoff.
Interesting that Hipwood's rating has gone up. Doesn't really say much for his 2024 season, but when other players are firing it likely allows him to "play his role" without necessarily racking up actions that result in rating points.

Cam Rayner - More time in the mid-field? or more time in reserve grade?

What is the best option for the Club to get Rayner's career on track?
Put him in the reserves as a full time mid, getting contested ball and bursting from stoppages for a few weeks.

We mise well not turn up to Marvel on Friday night, Bulldogs are just too scary according to David King.

Unlikely rise of AFL’s two ‘scariest teams to play’ right now ... and the scalps they could take on run home.

The AFL teams “scariest to play at the moment” sit 11th and 12th on the ladder, according to Roos legend David King, in a showing of just how close this season is.

Checks ladder ... the Western Bulldogs and Hawthorn!?

I don't mind if he plays more time in the midfield as Fagan isn't dropping him and we won't be playing finals. He will fail at that, will continue to show up as lazy, and people will finally realise what a dud he is.

Joe has definitely not been in our worst players .

Some quotes - won't post the full article.

And then come Hipwood and Rayner, the third and fourth-biggest improvers year-on-year.

Although on track to have significantly fewer goals than his career-high 41 of last season, Hipwood is clunking more contested marks and winning more 1-on-1 match-ups this year.

Speak to any Brisbane player and they will talk glowingly of Hipwood’s importance to the team structure. His role is to provide contests in the air and bring the ball to ground for the small forwards to go to work.

And according to Champion Data, those KPIs are trending upwards.

Rayner has teased fans this season with moments of brilliance and purple patches through the midfield, headlined by his 25 disposals and nine clearances in the win over Melbourne at the MCG in round six.

But the former No. 1 draft pick has been a target for criticism this season, no more so than after the recent loss to Hawthorn in which he had just seven disposals and failed to hit the scoreboard.

And yet Rayner is Brisbane’s ninth-ranked player this season and has improved by 13 per cent on his 2023 output.

The 24-year-old may be kicking less goals in 2024, but he is on track to have more disposals this season and will almost certainly shatter his career-best tackle numbers.

Rayner’s forward-half pressure acts have risen substantially not just when compared to last year but in all previous seasons he played as a general forward – and he is second among all Lions forwards for score assists per game, behind only Cameron.

Speaking of Cameron, the 2023 All-Australian has seen a stark 40 per cent drop in performance when compared to last year – the steepest dip of any player.

After 11 games he is on track to kick roughly 20 fewer goals than 2023.

Even then, Cameron has only gone goalless in two games this season and is absolutely trending upwards after a slow start to the year by his immeasurably lofty standards

He still remains Brisbane’s best pressure forward and ranks second for score involvements, behind only Daniher.

Daniher is down 27 per cent year-on-year – although his place on this list perhaps says more about the heady heights of an unbelievable 2023 season than anything else.

He is Brisbane’s 11th-ranked player this season, and still rates as ‘Elite’ as the key forward position across the competition.

Key point - these ratings massively weight things like goal kicking accuracy and whether you commit unforced turnovers. So Charlie and Joe being so much worse in their goal kicking this year would almost certainly be behind most of their ranking being down.

Joe is down last year on contested marking as well which would have an impact.

I just don’t understand why players aren’t played in positions that enable their strengths to flourish not trying to make players something they’re not.

Especially when you factor in that Fagan's philosophy in the beginning was playing players to their strengths. This year is shot just stick Cam in the bloody middle and leave him there

Good to see Michael off the “weeks” and now into a test.

He looked good two years ago so I’ll be very interested in what he can offer when he finally plays for the twos and as his contract is up this year you’d think this back half of the year is literally make or break. Perhaps Shadeau has gone past him but I’m rooting for Carter and hope he shows something because it seems a small achievement just to see him back playing again.
