Autopsy Round 1, 2017: Ess v Haw, **Ess supporters read the OP** Ban Hammer will be wielded with impunity

I hate all the immature drug cheat chat from our supporters.

We got smashed for hunger and the contest. It had nothing to do what a group of players may or may not have done 4 years ago.

Let's accept it was our poor attitude/preparation that cost us last week not anything else.

I don't think anyone is disputing the reason for the loss. The commentary on Essendon's club wide orchestrated drug cheating program is a side issue, but a legitimate target of discussion, especially given the way it was white washed during the official commentary, and the return of the drug cheats was an important driver for their motivation and hunger for the contest. We were beaten by a team which played with more passion than we did, but if you want to conduct a dialogue on the game, while ignoring the back story of the return of players banned for drug cheating, I suggest you go to the Essendon board and discuss the game there.

I say this with the utmost sincerity.

Your fans must've thought they were in a library on Saturday night.

Another Essendon fan with a learning disability. What makes you think it is appropriate to come to the Hawthorn board and criticise the passion of our fans after they've just lost to your mob? I don't think I've seen as many opposition fans thinking it is fair game to come to our board and criticise our club and supporters as I've seen after this match. I shouldn't be surprised though after seeing how Bomber's fans have conducted themselves over the last 4 years. Entitled turds , who think their club, and by extension themselves can do no wrong. If you want to air these opinions, I suggest you stick to the wretched hive of scum and villainy you call the Essendon board. Here is the link, in case you simply got lost:

It will take time to rebuild however we will do it quicker than most organisations. Don't look top four, and haven't looked it since losing to Melbourne late last season.

We will find the right mix eventually. Disappointing to lose however better to know now who is up for it and who isn't. Opportunities beckon for many.

Last year was our last genuine attempt at glory. Now the 2009-2012 grind begins. The process can be just as enjoyable.

Some comfort:

Essendon - **** all since 2000
Carlton - **** all since 1995
Richmond - **** all since 1980
Adelaide - **** all since 1998
North - **** all since 1999
Fremantle - lol
Brisbane - 2003 long time
Port -2004 long time
Saints - long long time
Melbourne - even longer

It could be much worse. Enjoy the process and the reload.

KOLOKOTRONIS
One of your best posts KOLOKOTRONIS. We are not the team of 4 years ago, but we are in a similar position to 09/10. Adjustments are needed and we need to find a balance between personnel and game plan again. It will take a while, enjoy the ride in the meantime and remember we have been privileged enough to witness a once in a lifetime type era.

This was the norm pre Lake days, unfortunately it has returned. Long ball to our defence, supporters put head in hands and hope for the best.
Everyone forgets how much B. Lake shored us up in defense. His type is a must get for us. A defender that can outmark or spoil 85% of the contests they are involved in. That helps the 3rd man up no end as he is not worrying about which contest to impact so much.

Bomber fans do not get it. Essendon have been in constant denial (even after a damning CAS verdict). No remorse, no contrition, no admissions of guilt nor any real penance (they were paid while they missed games of footy).

Now Essendon are inviting one of sports biggest ever cheats back with open arms and he is writing for a paper about footy again wtf? They are lauded as heroes and return to fanfare instead of a humble we are back and just want to play footy again.

Through this entire saga the EFC have given the big fu too the entire sporting community supported by the media and the AFL. It stinks.

My sincerest sporting hope (apart from more flags ;)) is that advanced drug testing calls out the cheating players (again). IMO this is about all that will satisfy the deluded fans.

Great photo, Matthews looks gutted.

Here is a picture of a Bomber's player feeling the full disgrace of having been responsible for the biggest drug scandal Australian sport has ever seen.

And here is how we prospectively deal with the instigator of massive doping programs:

And here is what we were doing:

Your club's history is forever tainted. Suck it up, and enjoy your time off from bigfooty.

How do you know it was either of those things?

Had we kicked straigher and kicked 19.12 and not 12.19 or whatever it was we would have won.

I have to say, the general over the top crap I've read about this game would have you think we lost by 15 goals on Saturday night.

Hawthorn played like crap for large parts of the game, dropped marks, missed kicks, didn't spread.... and were still in front at half time. It was pretty amazing at the time, but goes tomshow what we can do even when not playing particularly well.

All the funeral notices regarding the Hawthorn list are overblown at this stage, with only 1 game as evidence of our capability.

I hate the doping sympathisers vernacular

It wasn't suppliments, they weren't retuning heros, they didn't deserve a round one home game of their choosing we shouldn't be putting up their trolls on here acting like it was a normal win and held no meaning to the cheats or the supporters of the cheats.

In fairness my criticism of Duryea is based on the bulk of his efforts in 2016 also.

If your post was meant to harvest likes from the lurkers....

Mission accomplished. :D

Not convinced it's the doom and gloom the media have portrayed, we had a swag of player who were well below their best, and we were in the game until late in the 3rd.

Frawley is a worry if Gibbo has in fact fallen off the pace, his disposal and decision making has always been woeful, but he does it under more pressure now...

Titus gets it:

"The media have reacted to the win like Nelson Mandela being released from prison, which makes you wonder if they think we’ve all forgotten why they were not playing in the first place?

I’m not saying the players should continue to be persecuted, they’ve done their time and are welcomed back but let’s not pretend this is some heart-warming story of redemption."

Why weren't the clowns calling the game told this, as that is exactly how Saint Jab and the others were treated.

Who pays these clowns, TH?

What sort of career do they have if they pour cold water on the AFL's marketing strategy?

They'd be calling games in Dubbo within a month if they dared mutter the word 'doping' or 'drugs'. It's a supplement scandal as far as anyone with AFL accreditation is concerned...if they want to remain employed.

Yes, and it makes me flipping sick.

Frawley had a shocker. I even mumbled to my FIL as Essendon went forward in the last "can we stop the ball going out the back this time?".....fast forward 3 seconds and Heppell was running into goal with the ball in his hands after roving the crumb out the back door.

All that being said, Frawley wasn't alone. Stratton, Schoenmakers, Frawley, Gibson all got in each others way at times and allowed the ball to simply find it's way into the goalsquare.

There's plenty of room for improvement on Round 1, that's for sure, and I'm not sure we'll see a more inept defensive effort for the rest of the year(fingers crossed), as we know we have some damn good quality defenders in the side who would've had some interesting reviews this week.

GTFO!
We had a very off night for a number of reasons, so what? Thats footy- sometimes you lose.

This has nothing whatsoever to do with the disgusting spectacle of seeing six disgraceful drug cheats who are permanent s**tstain on our great game celebrated as returning heros.
It made me sick.

Enabler.

Time has passed and thoughts gathered. We played poorly, seemed off the pace and had 4 players integrating whilst the main pivot of the recent past - the release valve - has moved on. We need to re-calibrate and we will. Its what we do. I think that we will be about 60/40 - 50/50 for the first 10 or so rounds whilst we fix the issues but then we'll push on.

The key thing for me is that we played a team who had 6 players who should never, ever been allowed to return. They cheated, they lied, the tried to hide the fact, they blamed everyone - to me it is not resolved. Yes, that does not excuse what we did but it is the big picture.
