Duryea was very average tonight, one sided, one dimensional and has been found out. We saw it last year and unfortunately nothing has changed.

O'meara was cooked at half time, hardly surprising given how long he's been out of the game. Will take a few weeks before he is able to run out a game. Signs are good but still a lot of work to do.

Mitchell was excellent, everything we wanted from him he gave. Had an incredible ability to find the ball and gets in the right places. Lovell needs to follow him around the training track and fast track his development.

Langford was alright, his disposal however was one of Essendon's better players. I can live with a hack kick high forward it off a stoppage as we set up for that kind of thing but the number of times we were streaming forward and he kicked it on the head of the Essendon defender was a joke. Can scrap, can win his own ball but his disposal makes him a liability.

Few notes, our defense is very, very bad. So often going to ground at crucial times, not communicating and just disorganised. I know what we are trying to achieve with him in defense but he's a natural forward. Gunston another who needs to spend more time forward.
Tackling hasn't improved, so often we stand back and refuse to attack a player or just miss an easy tackle which breaks down our setup.
The cheering of the drug cheats by their fans was one of the more embarrassing things I've seen in sport. Imagine a crowd cheering Lance Armstrong if he won the tour de France this year, you can't because it wouldn't happen.

Lots of work to do this season, but we are in a rebuilding phase so it's to be expected. Roughead played out the game, he was absolutely spent by the final quarter but it's good to have him back.

I'm tired of this. If one of your best players transgresses club rules then fine him. Don't leave him out of an important game. I don't care what message it sends, all it does is weaken the team, help the opposition, and hurt the supporters.

We still would have lost. If they think it helps long term, and means hodge is rested 1 less game later, no point beating up on it

Gonna be a pretty frustrating year. Did some great things at times, very ordinary finishing.

I think it's time to recognise that Shiels is not gonna be that great with no Lewis and Mitchell around. O'Meara will get better though, may be that will help Shiels.

Langford finding a lot of the ball was a positive in my eyes. Wish he'd kicked one of those goals.

Overall it was very similar to the Semi-final last year.

I'm thinking of the one they just replayed there, where Smithy roosted the ball from the back of the centre circle and it went through for a goal after Hurley failed to touch it.

The guy they pay to stand on the line and adjudicate these things was sure enough not to bother calling for a review, and should be sacked.

Ok, yep, same one. I agree it should have been reviewed, just stated they don't check when its paid a behind. Play on.

How does one prepare for what is to come? How do they do it GOT when they know winter is coming? It's bleak, very bleak.

Bombers played really well. Had a lot to prove and they rode the emotional wave home. It must be a huge release for them and their supporters to put the bans behind them and move onto a new chapter. A part of me is happy for them.
How could you ever be happy for the scum.

As much as I loved what Duryea did in 2015 he seems to have carried his poor form of 2016 into this year now.

He's a liability when he has the ball, turns it over far too often and puts his teammates under pressure with poor disposal and takes a long time to get rid of it.

As good as he is defensively he provides very little drive and rebounding off half back. I'd rather see Teia Miles in his position. He actually takes the game on and is a much better decision maker.

If the newly appointed captain, who is an abolsute legend, coming back from what he has can't lift the team, what exactly will???? Roughy, Tom Mitchell and Ricky Henderson were the ONLY three players that were above average. Utterly embarrassing performance.
I don't think it's a lack of effort for tonight.

We need to accept that we're on the slide and we need to rebuild.

Sam Mitchell has made others around him look like much better players, and now without him, they're getting shown for their limitations.

Wonder if I stand by the fence can I get my red and black syringe signed?

Maybe you should go into the rooms...apparently Jobe is a good guy..if fact a fantastic guy, no reason to judge him on the past. He is there signing autographs and taking selfies etc. Great guy. I am sure he would have time for another signature (just don't ask him to sign it as Dr Dank)

Swap 2015 for 2014 and you have perfectly described Will Langford.

Look at the atmosphere tonight. How can that be a bad thing? They've served their penance and now it's behind them. That's how it works. After the shit they've been through this game must have been an epicly good feeling for their supporters.

Looking forward to this year. Haven't had a no expectations year since 2005 so I am loving it.

Couldn't agree more!

He kicks under the ball like an NFL punter looking for hang time. Not sure why he cant be trained to kick through the ball to get penetration and accuracy. Perhaps its just his gait that makes it difficult. He seems to be just a minor adjustment in technique away from being a really valuable player. I really hope that he can do it because having a contested possession bull like that in the squad is worth its weight in gold.

O'Meara will get better with more games under his belt and understand the game-plan. He and Mitchell will form a great 1-2 punch. It our midfield falls away badly after that and if our midfield is to get better though we really do need one of Lovell or O'Rourke to break into the best 22 and show signs of improvement.

He done a lot of silly running tonight, his gps numbers would be massive. He'll learn to play the G and be a star, the guys had 23 in his first game in 2 years.

I know that. He had potential for sure but so much bloomin' hype over him ever since it was rumoured we would get him and he's always seemed pretty full of himself. I wil never understand getting him and letting Sam go - a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.
