Review Round 1, 2019 - Brisbane Lions vs. West Coast

Although we got smashed, no thanks to umpires and Dusty.
The first Final against Richmond at the Gabba was my best memory of that 2019 year.
The build up to that game was just insane.
That and the Lincoln mark and goal in the Geelong game.

When Lincoln took that mark the grandstands were shaking!

2019 was such a fun year. I remember being absolutely stoked walking out of this game.

I was so excited that we might not be terrible.

I just woke up my fiance belting out the song with the boys and she is at the other end of the house.

Simpler times.

It was reported at the time that you were "up and about".

West Coast were Premiers and we had come of another 5 win season.

I seem to recall that the Eagles kicked them from everywhere in the first quarter and we were down by 4+ goals at the first break.

Then we went ballistic. I think it was both Lachie's and Linc's first game
for us.

We won pretty comfortably in the end.

I think that was the game that Fages paid tribute to the defensive efforts of McStay in keeping McGovern quiet.

That was a huge win for us and the first glimpse of real hope that we might be "good". Hope was a wonderful thing back then after years of despair.

I look back on that game with great fondness.

We not only turned the corner that year but did almost a full 180.

I remember going out to a gig with Andrew Stafford (Age footy writer, amongst several other hats) a few weeks before this game and telling him I thought we'd make the finals in 2019 (to his surprise), and saying I thought we'd beat West Coast in R1. Just goes to show not all my footy takes are bad takes

Mind you, I totally underestimated how good we were going to be that year. I thought we might get to 7th or 8th, not be top of the ladder with a round to play.

Looking back it appears there was around a 20k crowd to this game.
Whats the chances of a 20k crowd to our first game at the Gabba next year?
We need a bigger Stadium, big time!
