Look at our named backline v Norths forward line.

Five premiership players plus Hunt. Plenty of experience there.

Norths defense looks really unbalanced with experience and quality.

We've named close to our best forward 6. Darling, Allen, Ryan, Cripps, Long and Sheed as a high half forward / mid.

On paper we should win this game.
The game is won and lost in the midfield though.

Let's just remember to give some of these senior players a bit of time to get back into the groove gaiz. Gonna have to be patient.

Shuey, Darling, Hurn, Cripps Kelly, McGovern, Sheed, Gaff, Cole, haven't played much footy together lately so cut them some slack please.
Mate you didn’t have to put 2 paragraphs together……….it’s called SYNERGY bro, covers everything.

It isnt. If it was we wouldnt have won many games in the past 10 years.

Teams need to win the battle in two out of three areas. Defense, mid or forward.

I also dont see a super dominate midfield against us v North and we could break even in that area. WC Phil's posted he thought we we will be dominated in the midfield, interesting to see how that pans out. I can see the better teams beating our midfield, at times convincingly if we lack intent, but North isnt there just yet.

We are massive unknowns at this stage, more than any other side IMO.

The pessimist in me though is expecting a finish around 15 or16th.

Cunnington was named in their forward line but you just know he will be dominating our blokes around the ball . Always plays well against west coast

Yikes, forgot about Campaignerington.

Not sure which one of our mids is going to remotely be able to tackle that freak.

No Yeo, Culley or Redden.

Only Gaff can n save us now, he's like a new recruit and as fit as he's ever been according to Simpson 🦸‍♂️

So our midfield is Kelly, Chesser, Ginbey, Shuey with Sheed at HF and XON and maybe Jones rotating through there.
I don't think Gaff playing like a slow 23 year old will save us?
So arguably if one of Kelly or Shuey get shut down, we look thin in the guts against the little master coach?
Maybe Simmo has a plan, maybe the plan works..maybe we witness a revelation?
Fortunately Darling has been meticulous..?
Anyway, round 1, the great unknown...

Ginbey to run through cunnington at the opening bounce . Set the tone for the season

Gaff didn't attend one centre bounces in the practice game 🤞this translates to the season proper .

The AFL will activate its extreme heat policy for two day games this weekend as players prepare to swelter through 37 degree temperatures in Melbourne.

The risks of dehydration will soar for the North Melbourne and West Coast and GWS versus Adelaide clashes due to the boiling forecasts.
The league has told the clubs water carriers will have unlimited access to the ground, meaning players won’t have to wait until a set shot or a score to have a drink.

Clubs will also be permitted one extra trainer to carry fluids for the games.

The quarter time and three quarter time breaks will also be extended by two minutes for the GWS versus Adelaide game in Sydney on Sunday with a top temperature of 32 expected.

Clubs are expected to incorporate the use of ice vests and fans down on the boundary to help keep players cool on the bench.
The league has told clubs it will continue to monitor the forecasts and update the allowances if necessary.

Clubs will also be permitted to use the sub as per normal, allowing teams to inject a fresh player into the game for tactical or medical reasons.

Yes, I didn't mean Gaff in the middle, the Gaff sentence was misplaced in my rant...just meant wherever Gaff is, he'll probably be ineffective, even if he is playing like a young man? Unless he's reinvented himself - which would mean increased speed and effective disposals...

Looking forward to seeing Cole back, he's a big upgrade on Nelson.

Awesome that the coaches are backing Chesser and Ginbey in so early, hopefully they'll show something. I'm not as convinced with Long this early in his career though - seems too small atm but looks to be a very good prospect.

Just hoping the mids can get the ball forward in a controlled way, but most of our attacking will probably come from the backline as usual.

Im really curious about how Gaff will perform this season unhampered by injury, as I just don't think there's going to be much difference to last season with him.

Hoping to be pleasantly surprised however.
