I only really see it having the potential to affect rookie averages as they are more likely to be the sub. i.e. Rookie subbed on mid way through the last quarter and walks away with a score of 5 and a whole chunk of lost $$$ in value.
if they are subbed of they are concussed.
you would never get more points than that 5 anyways.

Theoretically it should be quite the opposite. It isn't designed to be like the sub rule from previous years. You'd essentially just be giving an emergency a chance to act as a warm body.

How many players take no further part each week because on concussion? Let's say it's 2. That's only 2 players from 18 clubs each week actually being activated. You also have the mandatory 12 day break now which will prevent clubs from exploiting it and claiming a player is concussed when they aren't just to activate a fresh substitute.

The only issue we will have with Supercoach is If our cash cows make debuts as the 23rd player late in games and it spoils their cash generation.
Good point. I’d forgotten the forced rest was 12 days and assumed it was shorter than that. Its definitely a deterrent against clubs abusing the rule and subbing in a player with fresh legs.

The most glorious time of the year. 3 days away from an influx of anti-Bont propaganda and people with 2700 posts on the SC board alone not knowing how a Hit-out to Advantage works.

Cant wait

Bont has already got 35 pre-game points four days out. Kissed on the dick.

I cannot believe that the AFL would prioritize the health and safety of actual AFL players with all these new concussion rules and the sub, over the wellfare of us glorious SuperCoaches.

Do they not realise how hard the footy season is for us campaigners already, I don't see any footballers struggling with the decision of how many trades they are going to make for a round, or if they are going to roughie Balta in after back to back 200's.

The disrespect!

What about our concussions though? No one ever thinks of the little people.

AFL article on the SUB
That article suggests pretty strongly the sub will be used for any medical situation and not just concussions. That means the sub will be utilised far more often than we originally thought. I wonder how long it will be until it morphs into the sub being used to replace tired players. It looks like the coaching staff will be able to choose the most suitable emergency as the sub, depending on which starting player is lost, so we may have no idea which emergency is at risk of being the sub, although I doubt clubs will be holding 4 emergencies back from playing in the seconds and having them all sitting at the main game. With it being extended to any medical situation this rule is going to be implemented in most games and will have a major, adverse affect on cash generation.

Any concussed player misses 12 days automatically.

Simple way of making sure it's not abused for other injuries is to make the subbed player automatically miss at least the next game.

The traveling emergency will take the role of the concussion sub. You're confusing this with the old green/red vest system.

has this been confirmed? Clubs play funnies with team selection as it is this will make it easier, unless the sub must be named when teams are selected.

100% this was a massive issue for SC when we had the vest on.

Why would teams play funny buggers with the rule when the assessed concussed player is subject to a mandatory 12 day medical suspension?

This is not about the concussed player, its about the player they select as a sub and then bring them into the team late.

That won't happen though. Other than in cases of concussion there's no way the AFL will make a player miss the next game when he's fit to play.

Someone take away my trades for a few weeks so I don't rage trade too early

Last year I started with Andrew Brayshaw only to trade him away after his spud first round

I'm the same. I spat the dummy at Bont who looked scared of the ball in Round 1. After that he spent the rest of the year kicking my sorry arse. One of the first selected this year? M Bontempelli.

Only if they don't make changes. Not sure why they couldn't simply average a players score out by the number of quarters they played coming on as a sub. Before quarter time, no change. Before half time 1.33 x score. Before 3/4 time double score. Last quarter sub = 4 times score. Injured players can get nothing, part of the game. Of course they won't make changes this late, unlike the AFL???

I'd be more worried about bench players. A carefully constructed bench player strat, specially in draft could be foiled by sub coming on for 1 kick.
