Oh man, so the 23rd player is only going to be named one hour before the match starts.

There are going to be some INCREDIBLE melts when someone's captain loophole comes on and play for 10 minutes at the end of a match.

Nobody should be using an emergency as their captain loophole anyway, regardless of the new sub rule.

Interesting that the AFL has stated that the 23rd player will be credited with a game and receive match payments even if they are not used. From a SC perspective, if they are not used, you would have to assume they would receive a 0 instead of a "DNP". Could play havoc with cash generation.

From a sub perspective, it's nowhere near the same as last time. if the sub is used, the player subbed is deemed unavailable for at least 12 days. Needs a medical certificate from the club doctor in order to reduce that time. Big risk by the clubs if they were to try and manipulate the rule.

I reckon for 100 years there were blokes selected on the bench who never played. Rotations only became a thing this century.

Every year I try to get at least one player from every team, or as close as I can get. Nothing worse than sitting down to watch a game of footy and having no-one from either side.
