Assuming we don't trade any players(which I am hoping for), here is my team. I believe certain players will be better in defence. Have a look at my winning team for Round 1 and enjoy :)

FB Mcuane Thursfield Tambling
HB Moore Schultz Newman
C Richardson Tuck White
HF Cotchin Reiwoldt Connors
FF Brown Hughes Morton
FOLL Simmonds Foley Deledio
INT Polo Jackson Pattison Coughlan

Tambo can use his pace and skill in defence. Newman can take over Mcmahons spot. Schultz will be needed as a tall strong defender if Polak doesn't pull up. No Johnson or Bowden required :)

Not bad, but McMahon will play and Johnson and Bowden will be required. Also Connors will probably only take one forward flank, and I think Cotchin may play.

lol, yep, if connors can carry both flanks that would be quite an effort

i reckon MacMahon still defintiely has some worth, and Schulz was a last minute omission from my team..

Tambling can go live in the Bahamas for a couple of years for all I care....and would really like to see Raines make his way back in the team sometime next year.....and if we pick up another ruckman....Patto may be in trouble...

Switch Bowden to the bench and bring in Raines and the back half will look pretty sweet for the next five+ years:thumbsu:

Not sure about Hughes or either of the goal gutz's either side of him? Morton probably will line up week after week but Brown should put the club first if he is not completely fit, as for Hughes......well the jury is still out on him. He needs a big year 50+ goals from 20+ games to stay beyond 09. No use in playing him for a couple here and there.

will be tough to get a gig next year for midfielder/half forwards

hard to leave out Edwards, Connors for me but can't see others missing ahead. if cogs is fit and at the club he will play. things can change over the summer though. would like to see tambling play down back.

cant wait to see cogs in full fitness.
will add to our dinamic midfield that we have. just think!

Tigers v Blues to kick off 2009

Caroline Wilson | October 8, 2008

TRADITIONAL rivals Richmond and Carlton look certain to again open the AFL season with the league expected to list the first 2009 game for Thursday night, March 26, at the MCG before the formula one Australian Grand Prix weekend.

A grand-final rematch between Hawthorn and Geelong has been scheduled to follow on the Friday night.

Richmond and Carlton, who drew a crowd of more than 72,000 to the 2008 season-opener held on the Thursday before Easter, appear to have won their battle to contest the debut match of 2009 with the Tigers having been tentatively promised home games at the MCG against the Blues, Collingwood and Essendon.

Collingwood and Geelong, who lobbied for the Easter Thursday fixture, seem almost certain to play each other at the MCG with the Easter break falling in round three.

The first round will go over four days due to Channel Ten's grand prix coverage.

The Magpies, along with Carlton and St Kilda, will feature on Friday nights at least six times each in the AFL's draft fixture, which possibly will be finalised next week.

Richmond, which has reached a deal with the AFL to join Carlton and St Kilda as the three home teams headed for the Gold Coast fixtures next season, is believed to have also been granted its wish for just two Telstra Dome home games, both against non-Victorian clubs.

Although the AFL coaches on Monday formalised their preference for a home-and-away season in which each club plays each other by round 15, the AFL is expected to follow the 2008 model, in which there were some bizarre examples of scheduling including eventual grand finalists Hawthorn and Geelong not playing each other until round 17.

The AFL is expected to point to the fact that 2008 attendances were a record and that the season can never be fair given the reality of 16 teams and 22 rounds.

I want to see Morton in the midfield in the NAB cup. Hopefully a preseason involving purely athletic training will see him come back with a tank to match his skills.

Also Rance would be a fantastic inclusion.

morton should do a preseason with the midfielders. could play the nathan brown role - forward/midfield. either way he needs to fitness. go with foley mitch and you'll be better for it.

Would have Thomson on the bench but cant see Johnson missing round one and hope to see Coughlin going in to the year with a strong Nab cup earning him a spot.

I actually had to leave a couple out that I would like to see in the side.Add to this a couple of kids from the draft and we are building some depth.

Most might not have Schulz but I am a fan and think he is our best option at this point. Dont want Richo playing the key posts full time as moving him up and down the ground as well as resting on the bench would effect team structure.

This is purely what I want, and not what I think, since its so far from Round 1 to even bother. Plus, we dont even have the draftees yet. :p

Thomson is stiff, but I havent seen him play. Polak will be in if he recovers.
