Round 1 team

No Grigg, No Garlett, No Lucus? Not great. The defence does look very powerful though, although I'd like to see Armfield back there. Not sure if Mclean has earned his spot. Hadley will be his replacement if he stumbles.

Looking forward to Round 2 more than this one.

I agree with the Mclean one, his pre season form has not been all that good. But we got him for pick 11 so the MC must give him evey chance to gel/preform. To tell you the truth i think Hadley provides just as much as Brock in my opinion. it is just Brock has a bigger name pick 5 in draft etc.

Expecting big seasons from walker brock and improvement from grigg, hampson armfield, simpson to more consistent. We need our middle tier and lower to lift big time, as we need a more even performance from the team.

I will say one thing if RATTEN and co have not a clear game plan, and our disposal has not improved accross the board. He SHOULD be under pressure to keep his job. I am not buying this bullshit, that the changes in playing personal will cause us to go down the ladder. No way, we should be aiming for as high as possible, that is making and or bettering our position on the ladder of last year!

Really is great that Warnock is making is debut at last.

Just had a quick ook at the Bleakmond starting 22. It looks like an incredibly short side. Their rucks are Simmonds (196cm) and Vickery. No Graham. There's no Post, and no Polak. They have one forward over 190cm, and their 3 "KP Defenders" are 189, 190, and 191cm tall - those 3 will be matched up against Waite (194cm), Hendo (197cm) and Setanta (200cm). This is one of the shortest sides I've seen for a while at AFL level.

:)

This is how i think where the players will be set up,

B: Bower - Jamison - Joseph
F: Roberts - Reiwoldt - Nahas

HB: Russell - Thornton - Scotland
HF: Cousins - Morton - Hislop

C: Simpson - McLean - Walker
C: Nason - Jackson - Martin

HF: Carrazzo - Waite - Houlihan
HB: Farmer - McGuane - Newman

F: Betts - O'hAlphin - Henderson
B: Edwards - Thursfield - Moore

FOLL: Kreuzer - Murphy - Gibbs
FOLL: Simmonds - Cotchin - Deledio

INC: Warnock - Robinson - Anderson - Yarran
INC: Vickery - Connors - Thomson - Tambling

Saw this too. Not to mention when Kreuzer rests up forward when not rucking. Would have to think there will be a late change for Polak to come in, but that will be up-forward. Still, even though its the small forwards we have to watch for we are terribley undersized in the KP down back - your mids just need to plonk it on your forwards heads and let them do it in the air. Unfortunately with Post out we really have nobody else (apart from Gourdis who isnt playing either) to cover down back. Worrying :(

You'd think a late change IS likely. Surely he'll see the problem before the game starts. Looks like an over-sight to me rather than intentional.

The Blues new KP forwards are all a lot taller than Fev. It's not so hard blocking one taller target, but blocking 3 can be an issue because it means they'll be one out. All 3 are exceptional athletes as well, and are great at ground level. It'll be an interesting matchup.

So will the Tiges push the resting ruck into defence? Not a great way to rest a ruck, and what happens if Kruezer "rests" on the wing like he often does.

Predicting a late change for the Tiges. They'll add one tall. I'm hoping it's Rance.

Having a civil discussion with Parrot!? I never thought id see the day.

Anyway, i agree with alot of what you are saying. Quite a few over on our board are baffled by the non - selection of Post, one who is actually a KPD height and would certainly of taken one of your tall KPFs. Rance isnt even named as an emergency - so a tleast he can work on his turnovers down in the VFL.

With regards to Kreuzer resting on a wing - you are correct, BUT that won't only be our problem this year. Kreuzer, Ryder and Natanui are simply rare in that they are both midfielders AND rucks - other rucks will be far too slow to keep up, and midfielders far too small. Have a feeling you may be correct - Vickery/Simmonds may be instructed to "fill the hole" in the defensive 50 when Warnock rucks and Kreuzer is free on the wing if there is no appropriate match up (which seems the case).

As i said in my previous post your KPFs Henderson, Setanta and Waite will be the real worry, especially in the one-on-one situations. Its fair enough to put an undersized backman on your "lumbering" type forwards, but Henderson, Waite and to a lesser extent Setanta are agile talls.

Having said that, i think Hardwick will try to get the smaller sized KP backs to peel off their oppenents to spoil - in order for our defence to rebound as quickly as possible through the flankers. It will be tough no doubt, especially in one-on-ones.

All down to the midfield - if we can get the ball out of the middle and get it locked in our forward line at all costs it will give us a chance with our mobile forward line. On the flip side, if the Carlton mids get on top and use the height advantage up forward it could be a long night for us as there is not much we can do personnel wise.

But yes, structure wise - Polak in for one of the benched mids (Connors/Thomson).

After having a good look over the teams i am quite pleased. One concern i do have however, is the lack of players in the team who will get the hard ball. Mclean will do alot of it, but cant be everywhere. Would have like to have seen Hadley or Grigg in the team as that secondary 'in and under' player. Sure, the likes of Walker, Simpson and Scotland can go in and get it when its there turn, but id rather see them using their pace and skill outside of packs. Kreuzer will become important in this game purely because of what i have just mentioned. He must play in the ruck so we can utilise his 2nd and 3rd Efforts. It will also be necessary for Robinson and Betts to have patches in the middle, as both are great contibutors in terms of hard ball gets.

Happy with the defence. Im reading Polak will come in, probably for Collins. Our talls are versatile enough to be able to go with the smalls. Morton is the one to watch. Capable of 5 in a qauter. Bowers the man id think.

Good decision by the MC to leave out Army. The temptation would have been there to play him, given the likes of Nahas and Roberts will be out there, but taking 3 players not 100% is a big risk. Murphy and Waite can hopefully run out the game and contribute, particularly Murph.

Im expecting a win. Probably around 20 points. Richmonds not as bad as we say, and were not as good as we say.

No injuries and a win would be a magnificent result. Round 1 is always a lottery game and can produce some suprise results so ill be happy to get the 4 points.

Scoreline of about 95-75 would be good.

That's a very good summary.

I'm sort of glad we're playing Joey Anderson, but he makes me a bit nervous. He is an outstanding athlete, and very very quick. He just has brain fades at times, and lost a lot of confidence last year. Our backline is pretty stable, and hopefully the others down their will give him the confidence and direction he needs to develop his game. He actually looks his best when he uses his pace to cut through the middle. Are we trying to turn a naturally attacking footballer into a defender? Maybe, although most players at our great Club seem to do an apprenticeship down back.

:)

FOLL: Kreuzer - Murphy - Gibbs
FOLL: Simmonds - Cotchin - Deledio

Gibbs won't line up on lids, we've been over this a zillion times in this thread already.

I think it's a bit ironic everyone talking/speculating about Warnock in the ruck and Kreuzer up forward and then those rumours being laid to rest last week by Rats saying it won't happen, and then he names the team with Kreuzer at FF. Mind games anyone.

Interesting that in all the pre-season games this year Anderson has played in the middle and Joseph in the backline. Would've thought it would be tghe other way round but maybe that's the way the MC will go?

I still think Joseph is not ready to be a midfielder unless he is tagging...

Anderson will get the 'run with role' tomorrow night as the tigers have those rangie type players in Lids and Cotch that don't like tags that can match them for size and pace... Lids likes to go forward which Joey can handle...

Having said that, Gibbs will go to Lids at the bounce and watch for Kruezer playing Ruck Rover...:D

He will... Has to throw the Jackson tag...

Anderson is a great athlete, and has a sense of attack and ability to plan on only matched by Bower in our line up. If he could get his kickingg and decision making right i could see him playing 22+ games. Unfortunately he hasnt shown me he can so far. Happy to be proved wrong tommorow night, as it will just add to the great depth. Any team that can have Grigg and Hadley in the EMG when Judd is missing is going ok.

I generally like to be optimistic in regards to our players, but do not like the inclusion of Anderson here. Would rather have Browne in there who is less likely to cough it up (yes, you heard me) and could keep a Russel Robertson under 5 goals which Joey couldn't do in rd21 last year. All the best to him though

Yep...

No names but you will wait til tomorrow to see if the source is spot on...

Anderson is in to play a role which will be to stop a player...

Nice work reds...

can you help with the final score :p ?

(thanks this is why I love BF) :thumbsu:
