RICHMOND

B: Shane Edwards Kel Moore Chris Newman
HB: Mitch Farmer Luke McGuane Will Thursfield
C: Dustin Martin Brett Deledio Ben Nason
HF: Tom Hislop Jack Riewoldt Richard Tambling
F: Relton Roberts Mitch Morton Robin Nahas
Foll: Troy Simmonds Daniel Jackson Trent Cotchin
Int: Ty Vickery Ben Cousins Daniel Connors, Adam Thomson
Emg: Dean Polo Graham Polak Matthew White

I'm a little perplexed by the Richmond team here. No Post, no Rance, and both Polak and White have been named as emergencies. White has usually played well against us in the past, and thought he would get a game tomorrow night. The other thing is they have gone in with a smallish side - with only really Riewoldt a "tall" in Richmonds forward line, as Morton is only about 186cm. Only Vickery on the bench, who is going to have to give Simmonds a chop out, so to ask them both to rotate between the ruck and going forward will be a tough job.

Three talls in the backhalf seems about right. What you do notice is the lack of flexibility with their forwards and backs. None of them can play at either end of the ground, whereas Carlton have Henderson, Waite and O'Hailpin who can all play at either end, and even Thornton went forward last year vs Nth Melbourne.

Nice work reds...

can you help with the final score :p ?

(thanks this is why I love BF) :thumbsu:

I have some Tiger mail for you...

They will be going in like never before and will be expected to HURT their direct opposition at every contest...

Expect an all in very early to get the crowd up and our boys off their game...

Oh, and Kruezer will pop up in a new position...

Loving all this inside news BIB and goreds!

will this 'new position' be up forward goreds?

Also, watching Nahas, King, Mcmahon etc having a go at our boys will be a laugh, Robbo would massacre them

Maybe that's why they have got Hislop in the team. He's not that good at anything else.

Is it just me, or does the Carlton team named appear to be one of the quicket we have named in some time?

Simpson
Betts
Anderson
Walker
Yarran

All quick, and might just give us an edge around the ground.

Probably add Murphy and Joseph to that group as well HBF. Bit of dash to come back as well, Judd, Armfield, Lucas and Hampson.

Hey Five.... Looks like I will survive another week!!

Na...

wont be FF or CHF but will be RR

Discussed this elsewhere - was it with you reds? If they counter by having their ruckman man him up and bank on their RR hurting us more than our ruck them - where does that leave us?

Good work on the mail but worried now that you are also giving Richmond mail. Are you the

If the Richmond coaching panel are reading BF to work out their match-ups, their club is in more strife than anyone had realised.

Warnock would push forward as much as possible to take advantage of his height and you'd assign AJ or similar to mind his man going the other way.

They can't really afford to have the ruckman really minding Kreuzer if he's playing as a true RR. He's run them off their feet, beat them at ground level and then take them forward and kick goals.

Post could arguably have played, but throughout the whole preseason so far Hardwick has favoured more experienced talls - got to give Thursfield, McGuane their chance before we cram in a second season player. Rance doesn't look ready to play yet. Polak is a bit perplexing, considering we upgraded him only a week ago, but to be fair, his preseason form has been pretty underwhelming. White still doesn't appear to have quite recovered from his hamstring last year - he seems slightly slower, which means he gets caught with the ball when he tries to take on the opposition as he is wont to do, and his kicking has been slightly off compared to what it was in 2008 / early 2009 (and it was never top quality).

I expect Vickery to play as FF/CHF primarily as he did in the later preseason games, and should chip in a goal or two without being dominant. With the 195 cm Riewoldt (supposedly - though he is taller than Nick when they line up next to each other, so maybe it's right) and the 200 cm Vickery suddenly it starts to look a lot taller, but who knows - maybe we'll go small to try and expose your tall backline that has been named.

Good luck guys - if nothing else, I hope it's at least a good spectacle so they can stick it up those complaining about us getting the first game of the season.

I don't mind our forward set up, still would have liked another tall though.

If we line up as on paper who do you think your guys will match up on

Pretty quick forward set up so it will be interesting to see how it works

After having a good look over the teams i am quite pleased. One concern i do have however, is the lack of players in the team who will get the hard ball. Mclean will do alot of it, but cant be everywhere. Would have like to have seen Hadley or Grigg in the team as that secondary 'in and under' player. Sure, the likes of Walker, Simpson and Scotland can go in and get it when its there turn, but id rather see them using their pace and skill outside of packs. Kreuzer will become important in this game purely because of what i have just mentioned. He must play in the ruck so we can utilise his 2nd and 3rd Efforts. It will also be necessary for Robinson and Betts to have patches in the middle, as both are great contibutors in terms of hard ball gets.

Happy with the defence. Im reading Polak will come in, probably for Collins. Our talls are versatile enough to be able to go with the smalls. Morton is the one to watch. Capable of 5 in a qauter. Bowers the man id think.

Good decision by the MC to leave out Army. The temptation would have been there to play him, given the likes of Nahas and Roberts will be out there, but taking 3 players not 100% is a big risk. Murphy and Waite can hopefully run out the game and contribute, particularly Murph.

Im expecting a win. Probably around 20 points. Richmonds not as bad as we say, and were not as good as we say.

No injuries and a win would be a magnificent result. Round 1 is always a lottery game and can produce some suprise results so ill be happy to get the 4 points.

Scoreline of about 95-75 would be good.

Good summary there i feel. Just one thing, i don't think Grigg is or ever will be an 'in and under' player. Sure he adds a bit of general hardness around the ground but he'll never be someone who continually burrows into packs to get the ball i don't think. You'll see hard bumps, a few tackles, harassment etc, just not so sure about the extraction that we get from McLean and Hads.

You're a bit delusional. Let me walk you through a few key points. First up even the Bleakmond site has Riewoldt listed at 193cm which is generous. He looks more like a 192cm non-athletic KP type. Somehow he's 195cm now according to you. I guess he'll be 201cm by 7pm.

Second point. You're saying Vickery will play at "FF/CHF primarily", so I guess that means you won't have a 2nd ruck. So are you saying a 32yo, 196cm average ruck will be up against Warnock and Kruezer for the whole night? Are you serious?

Think Hardwick stuffed up the selection, and is going to have to make a late change.... an embarrassing start.

:)

He's listed at 193 but he looks only 192?

WTF are you, a surveyor?
