McStay should not be an automatic selection next week. Skinner and Ballenden both matched his usual output up forward and both those players deserve a chance to show what they can do. The reality with McStay is we know exactly what we are going to get from him and he has had every opportunity to take his game to the next level but has not managed to do so.
Can always count on a joke comment from you about McStay. That you base your opinion on stats shows you know little to nothing about football.

You can't seriously be suggesting they matched McStays output up the ground. McStays work up the ground has been levels above theirs against Essendon.
But it’s all about stats because that’s all that matter didn’t you know . Typical joke comment from 3KZ where his personal bias against McStay shows out.

There will probably be at least 4 games after McStay returns before either Archie or Stef are available. We could give Skinner and Ballenden each a couple more games to try and win McStay or the 2nd ruck spot long term.

If one of Skinner / Ballenden kick a few, I suspect they might pass Hipwood than McStay.

Hipwood to me looks more in trouble than McStay.

I am actually. Let’s look at the 2020 numbers and remember Ballenden was playing his first game (with lots of time in the ruck), Skinner his second and McStay has played 111 games.

McStay 2020 season averages:
8.5 Disposals 3.75 Marks 1.6 Tackles 0.75 Goals

Skinner 2020 season averages:
10 Disposals 7 Marks 2 Tackles 1 goal

Ballenden 2020 season averages:
6 Disposals 3 Marks 1 Tackle 1 goal

I don’t see much difference, in fact all Skinner’s numbers are better.

McStay is a solid player that does what is required. You know what you will get week in and week out. Sure doesn't get the goals but creates so many with his ability to bring the ball down and drawing of tow or three defenders away from our other forwards and insane field kicking. Needs to kick more goals though.... gets enough chances but ffs misses too many. For an elite field kick he sure is useless in front of goals.

If posters feel a need to bag a player out, Hipwood would be my target. Doesn't do enough of anything well. It's almost like he is a 2m small pressure forward. Reckon he would be a better player if he was 20cm shorter and playing on the flanks.

We've been looking for a ruck, you know ;) :D

Hipwood's carried a big load at CHF for a young man. He's a good player just going through a little rough patch.

McStay has improved this year in terms of his impact further up the field . He earns his spot.

Skinner and Ballenden are both promising players who we hope will improve if they get games under their belt.

I'm not knocking any of the 4 , glad they're all on our list.

As much as there is mixed opinion here, we all know that Fagan will keep backing Hipwood / McStay just like he did for Rayner. They will all come good at some point, may be not at the pace armchair experts like me would love to see.

One game against a bad opposition compared to a bed of work purely on stats? Come on mate...

Even looking at stats you neglect to mention score assists - Mcstay averages higher than both across 8 more games.

Further to that - look at the contests created compared to the other two and McStay is very clearly the best of the three.

Your bias against Dan is weird 3KZ - even your son rates him more than you!

It is frustrating but playing key positions in the forward line often takes some time to learn the ropes and perform consistently.

There is a reverse bias that people have which is keeping other young prospects out of the side. Don’t they deserve a chance to show their wares?

Is this not a chance to show their wares?

Mcstay is best 22, and is a consistent performer in the equal first team in the AFL. He is the best contested mark of the three and offensively is a weapon. Skinner's field kicking is much weaker than McStays and Ballenden is nowhere near the mark Dan is. Dan is better at the best of what both offer.

If Skinner or Ballenden had been playing well enough in the 2s to give the coaches confidence that they could perform better than McStay then they would have had opportunities. It's as simple as that.

We need to be wary of the tactic that Richmond use against us where they work out who they believe to be our weakest defender and then channel their attacking moves inside 50 through their direct opponent. They did it to perfection in the first quarter of our Round 23 clash last year when Riewoldt gave Marcus Adams an absolute bath.

Richmond will concede whoever Harris Andrews plays on will get beaten and they will avoid him as a way on minimizing Andrew's impact on the game. Richmond will be looking to get a mismatch on Payne or Gardiner and they will exploit that. I'd play Andrews on Lynch, Gardiner on Martin and Witherden on Riewoldt. Riewoldt is always dangerous, but he's not in the best form at the moment and he would be a great scalp for Witherden to take.

That passage of play and Charlie goal in the 3rd quarter to get us within 10 points was the loudest I’ve cheered at a game. Love watching the replay. We played the MCG ground so well in the 2nd and 3rd quarter.

Why do you hate Skinner and Ballenden? Why don’t you want them to get senior games? 😉

Not on the numbers 😎

Sam was pretty useful around the ground. expect a big one from him tonight.

Bring. It. On.

We might need to go easy on Eddie for a very small while.....his mum died today apparently. Could be why he's been taking on the world lately, worrying about his mum.

(I'm no fan under normal circumstances)

Damn, I feel bad now. Lol.

No one deserves a chance when others a playing well. We are 7-2 this year and were 16-8 inc finals last year after winning the same number of games over the preceding 4-5 years. Players have earned their spots and shouldn’t be dropped to just give someone a chance.
