Makes sense. Was it him in the draft video said he lives like minutes from the ground anyways.
Probably, think he went to Mentone Grammar and was playing with the Beaumaris Sharks if my memory isn't playing tricks.
His mum's a great cook, has got footballing brothers. No hurry to leave home - pretty sure no one has any stats on how long captains and vice captains lived with their folks for :D

any stats on whether captains or vice captains make their beds though :O

Having looked closely at the kids in recent weeks, unlike last year there appears to be a void of midfield talent this year. There will be elite kids in the top 10 but after that there are not a lot of genuine midfielders in the top 30 ratings. Having said that the Championships usually unfurl a couple of rippers so I will be watching them closely.

I would always prefer to go to the draft with out first 2 picks, but depending on where we finish on the ladder, it might not be such a bad year to trade out of?

I think we have to stop focussing on whether the pics are top 10 or not. I'd be suggesting that even mids in the Top 30 have a good chance of improving our current midfield.

And that's not just this year. We have to really start honing in on this for the next little while.

from a very good source, owens still lives at home and relies on his folks.. plays like a leader but is still a teenager.

Yeah I saw that interview on fox footy too, don't think it's going to be relevant at all to be honest

The side has gotten stale so it's time to mix things up.

Out: Membrey, Ross, Paton, Sharman, Byrnes, Bytel
In: King, Windhager, Webster, Gresham, Billings

B: Webster, Howard, Wilkie
HB: Sinclair, Battle, NWM
C: Wood, Steele, Hill
HF: Gresham, Caminiti, Owens
F: Higgins, King, Butler

Foll: Marshall, Crouch, Clark
Int: Billings, Phillipou, Stocker, Windhager
Sub: Byrnes

Was at the game and my observations are as below

1. We played Sharman on the wing pretty much the whole game. He is not a winger and stop trying to turn him into one. He is a specialist leading forward ala Fritch so play him like one or not at all.

2. Structure around the ball, we seem to be drawn in way too often while other teams hold their width. The crows were amazing at always having players on the outside which made us look second rate.

3. Small forwards need to be actual crumbing forawds. We can't play Butler and Higgins together. I'd be playing Higgins as he is the complete player. I honestly can't remember the last time Butler roved a ball in the forward line off a pack as small usually do.

4. Douglas Howard needs to focus on the ball coming in and not the man. Absolutely terrible defending. Literally looking for the body of the forward for 80% of the time and the last 2 seconds turns around and tries to spoil the ball. Needs to focus on the flight coming in and not the man.

5. May not he popular but it feels Sinclair is being wasted in the midfield. Has 3 or 4 flashes of brilliance and can win a clearance but I personally believe him at half back has much more of an impact on our level of play than in the guts (still good).

6. Ownens needs to play on ball, stands up breaks tackles, has power and is the complete player. We should have enough forwards in King/Caminiti/Sharman/Membrey

7. Byrnes is either a winger or in the VFL. Not sure why he was used as a half forward for well over half a game. Has played his best position as a winger. Ross completely butchered him and Sharman over the weekend.

8. Ross need to clean up his disposal, right now every kick he does from a contest is a turn over and just bangs it onto the boot. Right now isn't offering much that windhager or Bytel could do.

9. Get Windhager into the guts. Steele, Windhager and Owen's the starting brigade. Crouch then to come in with Gresham/Sinclair rotating through and even Ross if in the side.
Agree with a lot of that, though Butler has done quite a few typical crumber goals this season. Sinclair is not a mid, and IMO neither is Clark. The poor disposals gave no forward a chance against Adelaide- Ross is a culprit. Howard's last two games were terrible.

from a very good source, owens still lives at home and relies on his folks.. plays like a leader but is still a teenager. The pou has more off field leadership potential atm
Don't care if his mum tucks him into bed when he's 25 - what he does on field and around the club is what really matters.

Fair chance the 18 year old Pou would still be living at home and relying on his folks if they didn’t live about 750 kms from his workplace.

I’m sorry are you saying simclair and Clark aren’t mids. What the hell have you been watching

That's one of the reason why we need to get some of the younger mids - Windy/Pou/Owens - into the midfield rotation as soon as possible. They all bring something different to our older mids without us losing the creativity and class Sinclair brings at half back.

Just a couple of points to address some things that have been raised:

  • Windy has performed and changed a game as a sub - Round 9 v Geelong last year. I think he needs to come in this week into the 22, but he has performed in the position.
  • We don't have a crumbing forward, but Higgins and Butler play different roles which we both need. Higgins is more of the Milne-type leading small forward. Milne could also crumb at an elite level, which made him top-5 all time at his position. Butler is a pressure forward. We need both those roles and a crumbing forward.

Apart from all the things mentioned
Eg
Long bombs
Random clearance kicks
Missing handballs
Poor ruckwork
Missed tackles
Etc etc

I think the big thing missing is onfield leadership.
Nobody’s pulling them together when things get a bit tough.
We should have three designated line leaders. Of course all would need some sort of football brain, so may be a big ask.

Interesting to see what they'll do if Steele doesn't get up. Bytel probably the like for like and Windy looking good with the big VFL game. If they go with Windy over Bytel in that scenario then...
