big Wil is far too inexperienced to be our number one ruckman ATM, this is begining to show with a couple of ordinary performances to say the least. He needs someone with a bit of experience out on the park to guide him and give him a break, maybe Bandy can play a few games soley in the ruck and see how he goes, interchanging with minson. Having said this though, Minson and Bandy are both inept at playing forward with is a new set off isues all together.

This week Jade Rawlings, Farren Ray, Patrick Bowden, Daniel Bandy, Ryan Hargrave and Shane Birss will probably all come under consideration for the game against Essendon. I expect Hargrave to come straight back into the team and if Grant doesn't play Rawlings would have to be selected. If Grant does play i would still strongly want Jade Rawlings in the side and another move you'd have to make is Daniel Bandy back into the side. One of Skipper and Wight must be axed if not the pair and Bandy into the side. I would leave Farren Ray out one more week and do think Birss should be back in the side soon. If Birss came in at the expense of Morris or Boyd i could handle that.Obviously some dilemmas though Bandy must be selected and will be in my mind. Watch this space.

Some good observations there. Perhaps Street should also be added to the mix of players. I think Morris should still keep his spot because there should be some good match-ups for him this week.

Some ridiculously harsh criticisms of Wight on this thread. The same people that are running him down now and saying he is not up to it would probably be criticising the club for not developing our young talls in a couple of years when we would have an even weaker spine if we dont develop our young guys.It is fantastic that we have won a couple of games and are in finals contention but we need some balance between trying to win games and developing our young talls.Eade should be praised for having the courage to stick with Wight on Goodes and I dont think he was disgraced by any means.Wight got two free kicks in ruck contests against a guy who could probably bench press him.He took just about our only genuine contested mark of the day and basically had a dip for the time he was on the ground. To say he is not up to it after less than 100 minutes of footy is extremely unfair.

This sounds like I am contradicting myself but I tend to agree that it might be worth taking him back to Werribee for a week but not because he is not up to it.We need 3 tall defenders against the bombers and playing Wight or Skipper back there would do more harm to them then good.I think Rawlings should come in for one of Skipper or Wight and play forward giving us the option of taking Morgan to defence if need be.

Birss will make the same people who wrote Gilbee off look pretty silly to IMO.Has more right to a spot than a couple of the running players currently in the squad IMO.

We need Rawlings in the side, and have to hope Grant will play.

That way, Lloyd and Harris, Lucas and Grant and then Laycock/Hille and Rawlings.

Dog Town i belive this is the best post i have seen in the 2 months i have been on BF
you think of down the track when it comes down to Talls plus not wanting to burn them out to young

Birss can play and shoulb be in the side before ray IMO and to those who say birss is agood ordinarlly footballer you havnt seen him much he is ahighly skilled kid and like gilbee needs some time

again well done Dog Town

I'm not sure why some are so quick to write players off but Wight has at least shown that he is going to be a good player for us in the coming years.
Not sure if he has quite done enough to hold his spot again for the Essendon game but he will play some more senior football for us this year.

Onto the game next week, Cross did a great job on Hird last season and I'm wondering if he might get the same role again.

Grant is likely to play this week and I agree that Rawlings should be strongly considered.

Agree that Cameron Wight is a great prospect for us, and I also think maybe a return to the Bee's with his AFL experience in his kit bag will further add to his development.
I would equally be glad to see him line up this week though, against the Bombers. He could present a better match up in what should be a free flowing game, where hopefully our speed will play a factor.

I'd hope Crossy would be demanding to play on him. He seems from comments he's made that he relishes the opportunity to test himself and constantly improve his game.
I'd hope Eade give's him the shot on him.

I thought Cameron Wight played better than Dale "kick a bag on me" Morris
Plus young Cameron laid a couple of tackles, thats a couple more than Bandy & Street have over the past 18 months or are likely to in the next 18.
They just like to watch people run past them and recieve handpasses and short passes.

I think you are undervaluing Birss
Please give me your reasons as to what sort of player you see Birss as? What can can you see him developing into? how much development he has left? What permanent position can you see him holding?

Morris was not the right match up on O'Loughlin.

What else could he do?

I rate Birss highly but I don't see a position for him.

For his own career's sake, Birss would be better off at an Essendon or Collingwood where he would fit straight into their midfield. I'd look at offers for him but I wouldn't be giving him away cheap.

(Please be gentle, Mel, I'm only suggesting it for his own good)

yes and aint isnt actually a word. But anyway I'd like to hear your reasoning behind the pathetic potshot of Morris?

Because I watched OLoughlin continually get easy marks 30mt from goals on him during the 3rd quarter on Sunday. After being fairly well held by Grant prior to his dead arm and then getting well held by Rob Murphy after Morris was shifted off him. Brian Harris has a bit to answer for as well but OLoughlin was in total control when Morris was on him and that was when the Swans broke open the 3 goal lead.

Just like I thought, a pathetic excuse for a pathetic potshot.

.

Cameron Wight is a great prospect, as is Will. Skipper may or may not be up to it but I would sooner see senior game time for these three and Walsh when he is fit than go back to the same player we know will never be top players in a finals side. This is a development year and yes younger players will be hot and cold. Wights ruckwork in the last quarter was one of the reason we got back into it. The week before it was skippers ruckwork. These guys should only be dropped if they are not getting enough game time to give them a good run at Werribee.

At year end would you sooner have these guys having 15 to 20 games under their belts or 5 to 10 with the rest taken up by Street and Bandy.

As for Rawlings give him two or three games back at Werribee to really run into some good form. If he can't he needs to be looked at when trading does come around.

Sure it's a 'development year', but in timing only (if that makes sense!)...The cold hard facts are, we're 9 rounds into 2005, sitting 4-5 and % only out of the 8.
Development is one thing...so long as we are still winning games.
Personally I believe we are more likely to win games with Street in for Skipper, but I seem to be in the minority in that one.
Either way, the point remains, too many people seem to want to 'play the kids' at all cost...Not sure I agree with that just at this stage.
