I remember thinking if it was a dry day we would have had a better chance. As Rooy and Cosy were less effective in the air, which changed the played.
And of course as our luck would be....it was the worst weather day for 20 years.

Because we want pretty tall against a fast paced small forward line. Carlisle, Brown, Roberton are all 194+ and Gilbert is 189.
I think you'll find that Gilbo is 193/194 as well. If that lot don' t drop a mark , the Doggies won't get a look in.

I wouldn't write off the dogs as much as I think we can beat them . Nobody flukes a premier ship win . But they have been missing a few players although like the Swans did , they seemed to have got almost a full squad to play us .

We will have to play well to beat them . They might be struggling this year but remember every side tries to lift when playing the reigning premier as it's always I good guide to see how your side is traveling.

We must win this game otherwise we will be under a lot of pressure to make the finals. We don't want to be like last year hoping other sides lose . This is the time we need to win when it's so close. Win a couple in a row and we might make a gap between us and the rest.

Really hope the boys come out firing after a not so good performance but got the job done v Blues and an absolute shocker last week. Must come out with our best pressure and best game if we are any chance of winning. Especially with the dogs just as much needing to win this as we do.

After two big names in Dangerfield & Roughead got their respective sides over the line. Who do we have if the game is close, get us over the line???
Although not a big name YET, hopefully it will be time for Paddy to show the AFL why he was picked at #1 and kick the winning goal.

Dangerfield has played 187 games, Roughead has played 241. Paddy's played around 21 I think.

i know what you mean, but there's enough pressure on Paddy already without expecting a 21-game noob to have the impact that we sometimes see from two very experienced greats of the modern game.

Here are our top 20 players in terms of playing experience:

Riewoldt 327 games
Montagna 279
Roughead 241
Dempster 222
Gilbert 188
Dangerfield 187
Armitage 152
Geary 150
Steven 141
Brown 139
Savage 114
Roberton 111

Newnes 100
Weller 98
Carlisle 94
Stevens 77
Bruce 76
Ross 68
Hickey 65
Dunstan 60
Webster 58
Billings 51

So maybe let's look to Sam Gilbert to save our games! Having a great year actually!

Yeah I agree whole heartedly with you, it was more a question on who/or have we someone that can stand up & deliver in those corcumstances. As for my Paddy comments, I know it's probably too early but I/we can dare to dream & it would silence any of his critics.

I think Billings is starting to get to that stage where he can win games off his own boot.

Just looking at that list, I think that actually clarifies a few things in terms of where our group is at. Dempster and Armo haven't been around much this season, Roo , Joey and Gilbo have been instrumental some occasions, other times not so much. Gears, Steven, Brown and Robbo been doing a lot of heavy lifting too. All over 100 games, along with Sav. The rest under 100 games.

I think we have a much better chance than we are being given by the media. Our pressure is at its best against teams that over handball and the Dogs are second in handpass to kick ratio.
We obviously can't butcher the ball like we did last week, and we need Membrey or McCartin to clunk a few upfront but we are a big show today.

We're going to have a KPF we traded heavily for (Boyd) rucking, one of the best young ruck prospects any of us have seen at the dogs (English) debuting as a 206cm underdeveloped beanpole leading our forwardline, while Cloke, Redpath and Roughead as mature big bodies play VFL. Most of us thought Roughy would be in, he's one of our most important players and our best contested mark around the ground.

On top of that we had Toby McLean dropped (perhaps harshly), go back to the VFL and nab 27 disposals and 17 tackles but not earn a call up.
Additionally, Stringer is underdone and as good as he can be he has struggled when playing through injury so a safer option would have been to let him rest up until after the bye.

In bar at Etihad

Can't be stuffed reading thru 100 pages of melts.

Will just say, Paddy least of our problems.

Carry on.
