Round 11 Box Hill v Werribee Tigers

The problems are his pace and mobility I believe. He may have a touch of the Leigh Browns about him, in that he is skilled and can take a mark, yet may struggle to keep up with some of the more athletic type forwards you come up against in the AFL.

I'd like to see him used like North's Drew Petrie, another player who was originally considered to lack mobility & pace.

If you're a 196cm KP defender who makes All Australian at U-18 level, there's a reason you fall all the way to pick 50.

I can see the Leigh Brown comparison mobility wise but Lisle already uses the ball better than Brown ever has and will be a better player. I was only there to half time and I thought it was the best I'd seen of him in the 4/5 games I've seen this season.

Impressed with Tim Walsh's marking today also.

Yeah I did and there was another guy in the same uniform at the side gate near the canteen.

Saw both of you when I went to get a coffee at half time of the reserves game.

By the way, I am one of the stats guys for Werribee.

How did Bruest go? He is the sort of player we desperately need in the Hawthorn side, especially with Rioli missing.

Any report on Savage?

Dowler went forward late in the 3rd quarter and last quarter when Box Hill went down by 4-5 goals. First goal a great grab over a werribee player, second an easy goal from a receive from about 10 metres out... played well.

Thompson had 5 at 1/2 time, No.21 played on him (name escapes me). Markovic went to him second half and he only jagged 1.

McQueen-Miscamble was on Thompson for the first half. Thompson kick 4 goals in quick succession on the 2nd Quarter. Most of the impact coming when Renouf was off the ground with an ankle injury.

Can someone clarify - did Renouf come back on? I assumed from other comments he was gone for the match.

That was the most complete game of football I have seen Dowler play.

He started on the wing and moved back and forward with purpose and effect. He was sound when defending (from the wing) with his kicks giong to players in good position and hitting the mark with accuracy.

When he went forward (from the wing) he went to good positions as an alternate target but not so far forward he was crowding the forward space and such as to enable himself to get back to cover any turnover in the forward line if needs be.

The one skill which I wish to highlight is his (very) clean ball handling. He took a number of O/H marks and did not double grab any of them that I saw. It was clean, positive and assertive play from him across the whole 4 qtrs

Great to read N24.

Must say, i would rather him be played as a CHB at BH level though as he is a long way from cutting it as a wingman at AFL level and more likey to play down back on a third tall.

Sounds like a return to the big time for Beau this week then.

My first BH game for the year, my thoughts on the Hawthorn boys.

Dowler - really good game today, he covers a huge amount of ground and always provides an option to use out of the back half. Went forward and provided a target but did his best work on the wing. Should be a chance for a call up this week.

Sheils- goes in like a mad man at the footy but still a little bit sloppy with his disposal. Won plenty of ball and was BH best mid on the day just needs to steady himself before releasing the ball.

Lisle - super pair of hands but he is very cumbersome getting around the ground. Use the ball really well and ticks all the other boxes except for speed and agility, something he can work on.

Tuck - had a shocker, to slow with his decision making and doesn't have great awareness of what's around him. Tries his guts out at every contest just needs to be quicker to react.

Bruest - some of the things this kid does just makes you go wow. Some of the pick ups off the bootlaces, running away from guys with pace, bobing up with a strong mark, the goal he kicked in the 2nd quarter was special, just needs to do it more often.

Walsh - Goldstein dominated the hit outs but Walsh was good around the ground. Best hands on the Hawthorn list, just needs another 3 or 4 cms of height and he would be our No.1 ruck.

Renouf - injured early, was solid before he got injured, nothing spectacular though.

Suckling - he is a great kick and is quicker than I first thought, was a fairly quiet day though and was just a game.

Sierakowski - long way to go, should be playing in the ressies at BH with better players than him running around in the 2's but still he has some nice touch. Needs a lot more time.

Kiel - was not his best game made a few mistakes and couldn't really find the footy, I don't think he has any outstanding feature that shows he will make it at AFL level.

Savage - superb game in the 2's, is very outside but his use of the ball is first class. Played on the wing all day, would have liked to see him in the middle for a while to see how he handles traffic but some of his kicks were high quality. Should be in the BH 1's next week.

On a side note I don't know why they don't think Markovic wouldn't make it at the higher level, I think he is a terrific player and his attack on the footy and his desire to win the footy is first class. He is quick, athletic, sound skills on both sides of the body, strong hands, cool head. Should have been rookied last year and would be playing senior footy right now.

Thanks for the write up, TM. Just on Walsh, could he settle in to CHB? We have other rucks and he is the short one. Just a thought.

PS. I would mind seeing Savage get a run in the ones.

Gee some great reading here...:thumbsu:some of this stuff put a smile on my face...Dowler always improving,Bruest showing his trick,s and Savage show,n his class which bring,s me to a point....spoke to a guy involved with the him at the stingrays who stated that Savage was rated in the top 20 to go through there club which suprised me...:)
