Autopsy Round 12, 2022: Hawks pipped by Magpies

With 4:20 🤭 remaining in the last qtr. Can anyone explain why the free kick was awarded to Henry (coll)? The ball is hurriedly kicked out of our forward line and the ball goes through Henry's hands, CJ pushes off the front of Henry so as to make a move towards the ball. Ump blows whistle, but what's the free for? Killed any advantage or likely possession that we would have gained.
Other than some head scratching decisions by the maggots it was a ripper game in the end.
Front on contact - despite not actually making contact in the marking contest.

Dylan Moore has been way down on form over the last two weeks. Not sure if he has worked out how to play with Wingard, s as Wingard draws so much focus on our forward 50 entries, meaning that Moore is overlooked. Maybe e need to try him in the midfield every now and again to get him into the game.
He’s playing less forward time to accommodate Butler

I don't get this at all. That's exactly what the rule is for.

If Butler does a ankle or knee when Moore takes his legs, we'd have been ropable.

Not to mention the kick off the ground from Lewis prior to that should have been a free to Lewis anyway. He kicked the ball off the ground while being tackled by one arm. Was blatant.

He played more midfield, 4 clearances today/

Seems like Gunston is going to struggle with his body.
It's time to TRADE at end of season.
Another year older next year.... he will struggle to play 22 games.

Mitchell for a guy who's played 160 odd games makes really bad decisions with the ball when it matters.
Sadly it is probably time to retire not trade. He had been great but his body is past it.

A crocked Gunston refusing to be subbed off was probably the lowlight for me. He was completely cooked- sometimes you've got to put your hand up and concede that you're not fit enough to contribute

Howe was made for the conditions.

The fact we didn't pull the trigger is frustrating.

Pretty naive for people to point to the Ginnivan goals & umpiring. Reeves misses from 25 out, Butler drops a chest mark in the pocket unopposed, Lewis gets a very soft free 30 out & we start the last with 3 behinds. We have ourselves to blame, but great effort to get back into it nonetheless.

Understand destiny is always in our own hands, but those frees to ginnivan just weren't there.
As for Lewis free, kozi should have gotten a free anyway, so does it matter?

Anyone getting annoyed with impey?
He is making really stupid errors , has lost a yard of pa e, and has limited agility
Seems like he is trying way too hard to make it happen. Constantly runs himself into trouble or puts someone else under pressure
We know he is a talented guy, hopefully he finds his natural game soon

Gunston should of been subbed out, played on one leg for 3 quarters
You know thats expected game time for a first year player right? :drunk:
Nick Daicos has played every game and played 84% game time today, and don’t say it’s because he plays mainly in the backline, Butler and MacDonald mainly play forward and we aren’t exactly racking the inside 50s

Disappointing to not win that one. Had our chances. Kicked straight early in the last and we would have put them to the sword.
Great effort, execution very ordinary. We just could not touch them. Umpiring was extraordinarily poor and to Collingwood’s favour. That said, oh for another Newcombe.

Just needed some midfield quality.

Maybe it’s an unfair call by me and I just don’t understand the rule, but I felt Moore had every right to go for that ball and he got there well before Butler did.

It probably made up for the blatant ankle tackle on gunston where Collingwood got a free for high

It’s a reflection on just how bad the midfield is. Having two picks inside the top 25 in this years draft is going to help. Add Ward, Maginness, plus Day will be part of the midfield rotation at some point, there’s room for improvement.
Is there more to it than just midfield? The clearances were close to level today so maybe it’s also to do with the way we move the ball and lack of ability to keep it locked in our front half when we get it there
