Please no ACL to Sicily
Nah. MCL sprain I would’ve thought. Depending on the severity / grade I reckon 2-3 weeks on sidelines. Tied in with the fact finals are goneski they might have been ice him up for the season to play it safe.

I don't think the list is as ****ed as the nay sayers think it is. A lot of the frustrating skill errors are probably down to confidence, and some wins would have helped fix that. Unfortunately 1 game at the MCG against an away team for the year isn't great at building confidence. Neither is spending life on the road away from your friends and extended family. Keep in mind when TOB got a run of good games last year and his confidence soared, so did his contested marking, with him actually holding all those 'almost' marks.

Not sure why Patton didn't play, perhaps not match fit? We really need a pack breaking big bodied forward to put more pressure on defenders and get the rest of the forwards more into the game. We had zero of those type on the field today. Hopefully Lewis can get some confidence back in his shoulder and provide a second option after Patton, but he wasn't in good enough form when he last played to pick him ahead of Patton.

Our lack of a pack breaking forward is also impacting Breust, who right now is having his worst year ever (including his debut year) from an average goals per
game point of view (although to be fair the short quarters need to be factored in).

Worpel's best game for quite a few weeks. Mitchell needs to get back being more damaging with disposals. People talk about JOM butchering it, but TOM had 5 clangers to JOM's 2. Mitchell and Worpel need to carry more of the inside load so JOM can get outside a bit more often, where is his disposal tends to be much better. JOM had nearly more clearances than Mitchell and Worpel put together.

I was very impressed with how Impey used the ball today. Not getting enough of it yet, but you could see him thinking through the options on every disposal, and rarely chose a bad one. Gunston likes to play small sometimes too, and read the ball off the pack, so a pack breaking forward would also bring him more into the game.

At least the Frawley haters have a reason this week. He's kept us from getting hammered by big forwards this year, and unfortunately couldn't deliver again today. Swift ball movement into their forward half didn't help his cause. Stratton seemed to be next to Ryan whenever they showed footage, so suspect he had the job on him not Hardwick. I remember when you could trust Stratton to shut down a small forward every week, that time seems long gone. As for Hardwick, another player that seems to be ruined by confidence issues, has gone from a tough player and good user of the ball, to an indecisive, error prone defender. He's still tough, but you can't afford to be error prone in that part of the ground.

Wingard looked good when he was involved, especially from an effort point of view, I don't get why people see him as a player who is not trying. If anything he's trying too hard to let his natural game flow. Would love to see him play 100% midfield for a few games though. Midfield desperately needs his class.

Glass deserves another game. CJ too, although I do see the point of those criticising his disposal, which is apparently an issue at the lower level too, so not something more weeks at the top level is necessarily going to magically fix, but would still like to see what he's like with more games in him.

Pleased with Scrimshaw's ongoing development. Still makes some mistakes when chewing off a bit too much, but when you remember he's only just passed 20 games, I reckon he's doing fine, and should be a 200 game player for us.

Day's class obviously goes without saying. what he'll be able to do with a mature body is something to look forward to. Skillful, brave, and a decent decision maker who likes to take the game on.

I still reckon the list has something to work with and calls for trading out players is premature. Let us see how we go next year with some home games to provide a buffer against the confidence hits that the hubs have dealt us.

On

He had one contest where hardness was an issue tonight, his slick hands and positioning was good, shape and all. Morrison isn't the problem

We know what we're getting with Morrison and he's very vanilla and pretty much playing at the peak of his powers. I'd rather we play a guy like Greaves to see if he is better in that role

Now, people got their wish of Wingard midfield. He had one brilliant kick, but he made some bad decisions by hand and foot. He had 13 touches. I reckon he has played only a handful of good games for us.

Could be wrong, but I thought he was only one of our rotations through the middle, which isn't a change. We've always rotated our small forwards through the middle. He was very good for us last year when he was closer to a full time mid, and he also played that role really well in games with port, especially his final season with them. How sure are you that Wingard was largely a full time mid in that game?

Morrison - slow of mind and foot. Makes way too many mistakes
Frawley - Done
Burgoyne - Ok tonight but sad watching him unable to influence the game
McEvoy - having a very poor season
Nash - has a good physique. It ends there
Day - Class, poise, brave, he is the highlight of 2020
Sicily - great kick & mark if no bodywork involved. Not big enough to play on guys like Darling
Stratton - not sure why he didn’t take Darling. Does not look interested at all.
JOM - hard, tough, very average skills & decision making
MItchell - hard, tough, skills good but poor decision maker
Worpel - hard, tough, good acceleration. Inconsistent skills and decision making
Shiels - good tonight
Bruest - when we are winning he is one of the best
Gunston - best 3rd tall in the game. The makeup of our forward line does him no favours
Wingard - tries hard but like Gunston or Bruest are better when not the main focus
CJ - needs more games
Frost - quick & strong but comes across as a bit stupid
Glass - not up to standard
Impey - has been extremely poor since first game back
Scrimshaw - lacks confidence, almost always unsure of himself
TOB - his asset is his flexibility. He is able to almost take marks in any position on the field.

One of the perhaps harshest, perhaps strangest reviews of all players from a single game given from what I can tell only two players were positives. but I only count 21 players was the 22nd the one you really liked or the one you really hated.

P.S I do agree with your assessments generally over the season perhaps not just on tonight. OK worked it out you missed Hardwick, I'm guessing as you don't want to speak his name ever again, which is understandable after tonight.

Looked tired late, worried he might be rested, especially after traveling to a new hub this week.
Also consider that we might bring in more young blokes after tonight, tipping managed.

Oh really? I didn't noticed at all. Still able to read the flight of the ball correctly and do all the good stuff. To be honest I forget that he's a very young player.

Well if he's managed we might be able to bring in Finn 🙂.

I really hope this is the effort our mids give for the rest of the year - Worpel and JOM both looked explosive and took the game on - if hope we get this kind of effort from both of them consistently. I also thought Shiels and Mitchell we're serviceable, one of the few times our four mids have all played above average games.

Also really pleased with Scrimshaw's game, CJ's endeavour in the first half (thought he went into his shell in the 2nd half though) and Glass first game in a long time was pleasing. Will Day was seriously good - our most exciting rookie since Cyril - thought he was legitimately BOG in the 3d quarter.

Unfortunately our older guys in Strats and Frawely looked slow tonight and Hardwick was disappointing, our backline in general wasn't fantastic. Despite that it was really only a few poor errors and our inability to connect between mid/forward that kept us from giving WC a serious scare.

I've been an advocate for playing Nash, but today was his worst game to date (After an ok performance last week). I'd give him one more go but am losing hope.

Really hope Sis is not serious..

As a fan I am much happier with the performance than the last 6 games bar the blues, we had a crack but eagles are just a good team and hard to beat.

Only negative to me that are worthy of raising:
Jiath: Earns his spot today, but while I’m not big on young kids getting a game then dropped but his effort in the last QTR was nothing short but terrible. Missed the simple kick to Day but then didn’t go hard enough at the spoil and did not contest. Piss poor effort and I think he got dragged after with 5 mins left not to return (but could be wrong).
Nash: I like the potential in Nash but when we play good defenders he always goes missing and not just missing but does not do anything and that dropped mark from Silk just shows me he lacks the smarts or the footy brains to become an AFL level player.
Stratton: Have no idea why he is not dropped, like the only thing he can do right now is lock down a small FWD, Offers no driveor third man up right now. Yes he owned Betts (but Conca a spud didthis last night) but got shown up by Ryan today and if the coach does not believe he can play this role any longer I fail to see why he should play in front of Kozi, Hartley or Greaves.

The young players can make mistakes, but just have effort. Glass made a few handling issues today but never shirked a defensive responsibility or tackle and likewise Will Day.

Positives:
Will Day: future AA, just find another 4 will days and we’ll be back in no time.
Glass: Not a huge fan and made sone errors but worked hard and really pushed back to help the backline, that’s what I want to see a player playing for his career and earns another chance as opposed to entitled players who aren’t offering anything e.g. Scully, Stratton, Ceglar etc.
Worpel: Thought he was really good today, should be our No.1 mid with Mitchell with JOM shifting roles.
McEvoy: While Nic Nat won the battle he hardly killed up or got clean taps which is why NcEvoy should get another year before grooming our next duck and please trade Ceglar.
Scrimshaw: Really thought that was his best game of the year. His skill and ease is insane so just gotta get games into him and his confidence will become huge.

Can't fault the effort in the end. There were plenty of examples of taking the game on, just lacked that little bit of polish and execution. Will day is a competitive beast and never gives up, as others mentioned earlier he is a natural footballer. He is a pleasure to watch.

Give me Glass every day of the week before Scully.
Biggest disappointment from CJ tonight was in the last quarter he had an opportunity to make contact for a mark in the back line and chose to stop and watch an Eagles player take the mark uncontested. For a player given an opportunity after being elevated, I want to see desperation to hold your spot in the team.

Got to say some of the comments re Stratton are disappointing.

His captaincy aint my cup of tea , but he is a 3 time premiership player ( you know flags we all got to celebrate ) who put his body on the line game in game out for us.
Played a lot of important selfless roles for us.

We arent playing finals , he deserves to play out the season without copping a barrage after every game.

His tackle on Danger against Crows in 2012 and huge marks against Geelong in 2013 got us into two Grannies.

Not too bad from Hawks tonight, effort there but lacked polish against a top contender.
Stratts out. Gunners captain asap.
Bring in Patton/Lewis as a marking target.
Nash no where near it tonight, change him for Morris.
Give Cegs responsibility as only ruck and give 50yo Big Boy a rest.
Give Day and Scrimshaw more time up the ground.
Really not a fan of Morrison, he's an average role player in a team that needs more from there young players like him.
Need to rotate players through the middle more, give Chad more time in there.

Got to ask the question. Why do the Irish boys get games over other boys we have drafted who have played the game growing up.

It isn't a question about Glass or Nash tonight. Moreso why we think they are the future despite being challenged with a steeper learning curve.

I think some around here need to realise it’s not just about wins and losses on the scoreboard the rest of the season. The wins and losses IMO will be things like seeing the our kids get a go and give the same effort that young Will Day has from start to finish. CJ made a heap of mistakes today but I can deal with all of that as long as he’s taking the game on and trying to open it up as much as he can. Sh*t canning guys like Stratts is not going to help anyone especially in what is likely to be his last season. The endeavour was there most of the game but the cold hard facts are we just aren’t as good.

It’s gonna be hard watching the rest of this season but if ever a time that ride the bumps with grin applied then this it. We all just have to stick fat and take it. We’ll be okay... we always are 👍🏽

not sure on Nash, but glass been one of bestin the scratchies. Deserved a go.

Nash I don’t get, and never have

Those indiscriminate kicks off the ground by Stratton do my head in, it’s like he doesn’t want the ball near him. It’s under 10’s stuff. No leadership by example whatsoever.
Its actually embarrassing to watch now, which is quite sad.

Its like when you watch junior footy and the ball goes to the kid who is only playing cause his dad makes him and his first instinct is to soccer the ball away off the ground instead of picking it.

Both have all the athletic tools. Just not yet the footy smarts so their upside is prob higher than some of our late picks.
Though glass was more than okay. Nash not so good.

Besides the first quarter it was actually not a bad showing. Gave them a 22 point head start and only lost by 5 goals.

midfield was good today. Worpel got involved and actually got better after being pinged. Not sure what to make of Shiels this year. When involved in the game he is good but the disappears for quarters at a time. Wingard was also good today.

Impey has struggled the last two weeks as he is finding his way back from that injury.

Glass was ok and did some nice things.

Jeez - Stratts. That was a bad one today.

Patton will be a welcomed inclusion next week. As will Smith. Not sure who the outs will be though. Maybe Nash and Jiath?
