Robbo was our best today. Some of his contested efforts were inspiring and put some teammates to shame. Walker and Bastinac played their best games for the club. Schache and Hipwood showed some great signs. Cutler and Gardiner continued their improvement. Bewick and Zorko good again.

Now for the negatives:

Schache needs to address his set shot goal kicking troubles asap.

Paparone and CBeams in my opinion are not AFL standard players. CBeams is so slow and his skills/decision making are poor despite some people thinking otherwise. He doesn't do a good job defensively either. He is a liability. Paparone is soft and lacks adequate skills to play at this level. Some will disagree but that's the way I see it.

Hanley is playing under extreme duress that much is evident to all who watch him play, however, failing to execute a basic handball is inexcusable. Not good enough from a senior player but credit to him for working hard around the ground and putting some goals on the board.

Richy had a great first quarter but as soon as the opposition paid some attention to him from the 2nd quarter onwards he went into his shell and had zero impact on the game. Simply not good enough.

This might seem a little harsh by some but seriously Rockliff was WOEFUL today. WOEFUL. Racked up so many soft, outside possessions particularly in junk time that had zero impact on the game. His disposal was appalling, he turned the ball over on many occasions and directly cost us a few goals. Simply not good enough as the captain of this football team and to be honest this is the first time I am starting to question him as our skipper. If he continues at this rate for the rest of the year I don't think he should be the captain next year. He currently looks devoid of confidence and an ability to stand up for the team when we need him most.

Harzy injured. Hopefully that is something minor.

Lewy Taylor had an absolute shocker. So many simple handballs that he coughed up straight to a teammates feet or to a teammate under pressure. He has time on his side to turn things around but I'd be lying if I said his form isn't a bit of a worry.

I love Benny Keays but I don't think he is quite ready for AFL level yet. I think a spell back in the reserves will be handy for his development. Don't want to burn him out/sap his confidence playing at senior level with the team getting flogged every week.

Lester looked slow and failed to impact that game.

Overall once again it was our senior players who let us down. The effort was there today but we are such a terrible football team it is not funny. I was happy with the fact that the boys fought it out and kicked the last 4 goals even if the Eagles had packed it in with a comfortable lead.

I thought those were encouraging displays from Schache, Hipwood, Cutler, Gardiner and Jansen. Mayes was pretty good for most of the game, and Keays was pretty solid although not involved so much.

I actually think that our development of kids who've come in with highish picks has been pretty reasonable.

Merrett, Beams, Rocky, Pearce and Stef really struggled. Rich was anonymous after quarter time, and Bastinac (to me) looked quiet until late although the stats suggest I'm wrong. Zorko was probably off compared to recent weeks too. Our sen

Struggled to think of any players to make the other 3 votes once I'd selected Mitch Robinson and Stefan... Walker and Hipwood got two, simply due to it being a positive game for Hipwood on debut (Leppa MUST reward workrate and multiple efforts at the ball such as Hipwood displayed), and Walker having a good game, getting beat up, but taking grabs, contesting and bagging 4 goals (might I add Walker at 23 is still young and may end up being something, we never know)

Just about every mark we took inside 50 came off Basti's boot, his service to our forwards was sublime today. Robbo and Zorko - again, just brilliant. Robbo BOG. Giving my other votes to Walker & Schache, they worked nicely together and got results.

Hipwood quite a good debut, didn't go in expecting much given he still needs development but he went well. Certainly demonstrated spirit and class.

Pearce had 36 disposals @ 77% efficiency, 12 marks and 2 goals! I wouldn't say he struggled.

2.3 - I know he is a first year player and he is showing a lot of promise, but how has Schache's kicking got worse since he entered the AFL system? Another indictment on our skills and pathetic coaching staff who generally struggle to develop players. That said today was his best game for us.

Also good to see Walker help ease the pressure on Schache though. Solid effort today. We need to persist with him too.

He butchered it a fair bit at key times. Especially inside and going inside 50. I'd also be inclined to discount disposal numbers a little bit given we won disposals by about 100 and were comprehensively thumped.

That said, fair enough that he was a lot better than some of the others I named. I'm probably marking him a little harshly because we need the senior guys to stand up.

I thought you were joking at first.

How do you think we've coached him out of kicking straight? That's absolutely ridiculous. Nerves and fatigue are probably playing a role, as is the responsibility of carrying a club's future on your back as an 18 year old, but I can't see how that skill is a coaching issue.

Didn't Leppa say something during the week about the leaders focusing on their own games? Would definitely explain the possession count of some of our boys.

I followed Mitch to Brisbane with huge hopes. He's done well.. But very hard to find many positives at the moment about the rest. I just hope he plays long enough to enjoy some more success. He really gives it his all at the expense of his body. Makes me insanely proud.

I was thinking today that fatigue may play a massive part in this. He works really hard.

Robbo, Martin, Walker, Schache and Berwick.. Bastinac did what asked for and I see good things in Hipwood.
Zorko was above average. Rich was good for one quater as Eagles forgot to tag him (He still tried though).
Cutler, Mayes, Gardiner tried
Keays and Jansen did well where they are although not much of the ball.
Hanley and Rocky got junk disposals. Not sure I rather a young kid in then Hanley at the moment.
Merrett did a few spoils and then gave away a few too many goals like usual :(
Lester, Beams and Taylor had good minutes. Why does Taylor always have to turn in circles :(
Papps sorry not a great game.

The skill level is still way down and the Eagles where in 2nd gear most of the game

That's the heartbreaking bit. He does so much of the hard stuff unusually well for an 18 yo forward(covers ground, gets marks, takes hits, generally uses it okay for a KPF) and misses out on the reward. I have absolutely no concern about him straightening up his kicking though (at this stage).

Depending who's fit next week my changes would be:
Out: Paparone,Hanley
In:Matheison,McStay,

Jansen I wasn't going to suggest dropping, but worth persisting with.

Some of our experienced players undo a lot of good work with stupid mistakes you would expect from blokes in their first season.

We are often our own worst enemy - both in conceding goals and attempting to score.

There were a lot of good signs from our younger guys which was pleasing. Mayes has certainly been getting better and better.

Robbo :hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts::hearts:

Basti was good, can fly under the radar.

Rich invisible after qrt time.

Our switching of the ball is diabolical.
