I am almost glad we are going to lose by 10 goals. It prevents Longmire doing his usual Look at the positives press conference after the game. We are worse than pathetic today and all I want is for Longmire to admit that we have things occurring in games which are inexcusable. These are hidden when you win by a point or trim the margin with cheap goals late..

This has been appalling.

Positives.. erm.. Hannebery has looked really good, AJ still looking as solid as ever, Smith and Shaw doing good jobs, Bird good on Judd for the most part.

Is McVeigh even playing? Goodes floating in and out as well. So much for co-captains.

Mumford looking rusty, no clue why Seaby was subbed out and not him.

Why did Horse wait so long to bring Jetta on?? Even Commetti picked up on it, should have come on at the start of the third quarter.

We were playing Malceski in the forward line when we were getting destroyed in defence. Jetta wasn't the answer to that. Having 2 ruck men in the team and then playing Goodes in the forward line as well is just optimistic coaching IMO.

Maybe now others might be asking questions of our coach. I'm sick of reading the standard defence of "it's his first year, give him a chance". He has been part of the coaching team, a big part, for several years. I'm not calling for his head but he has taken the club backwards this season, which has been masked by where we sit on the ladder.

For starters, he was a gun key forward yet our forward set-up has been a shambles all season.

I disagree with Cometti, if we're relying on Jetta to be the super sub to beat Carlton then we don't deserve to win. We're being comprehensively beaten all around the ground, no amount of substitutions can help us.

Who said anything about relying on him. But putting him on AFTER the game has been lost is just brain-dead.

No problem asking questions. I've been asking questions from the start. The problem is when one tries to imply an answer. Longmire's start has not been fantastic, but many coaches start out poorly before coming into their own. We've been spoilt with Eade and Roos having gun first seasons.

I can understand we are setting up for the future and I can understand that kids make mistakes but it's not them I have a problem with. If our senior players actually performed we would be a genuine top 4 team as our kids have been great. A coaches job is to nurture kids but it is also to hold senior players accountable when they don't perform. Holding a press conference and highlighting positives sends the wrong message to leaders like Goodes, Kennelly and McVeigh. That's what I have a problem with.

That's my point though, we were being beaten all around the ground. Jetta would not have made a bit of difference. But if we have to roll the dice just to get over the Blues then we don't deserve the four points. It's not like he was breaking a deadlock, he would've been dragging us back from the dead.

Then why was he the sub. The whole point of the sub is to come on and change the game if you are losing. At least, when you make a player like Jetta the sub it is.

Bit harsh.
So Longmire is totally to blame here? Was he responsible for our first 3 goals to none at the start of the match? Whose fault is it when a player plays on from 3 meters out & gets tackled?

The fact is that we have been terrible today. We are not a top 4 team at this point in time. At best we are 7th & at worst we are 12th.
We have blooded a few this year & have some oldies that are hot & cold.
You have to like that we are persisting with Johnson down back & Reid up forward. I like that about Longmire.
Today hasn't been our day. Carlton are just on fire this year.

Throw in 23 frees to 9 away from home............................voila!

Keep the chins up folks. We're not this bad. Missed too many important shots.

The coach is always responsible. Yes credit to him for the fast start to match, but it also runs the other way Teddy, we were shocking from then on.

A few people here are going to get a rude shock this weekend. I read through about 10 pages where people were talking about how hard it will be to drop players, and talking up our fantastic depth. Watch how quickly the tide turns once we have a match against much better quality opposition than Richmond or North Melbourne, and suddenly all the players you think are playing well don't look so good anymore. I guarantee there will be at least 3 players regularly listed in peoples' "outs" lists after this weekend (win or lose) and even more than that against Collingwood (lose or lose).

Those players won't suddenly get any worse, they will just be playing against a better team. Our team will be no worse against Carlton than it was against Richmond, but suddenly the players who are "undroppable" won't be quite so safe.
I don't have much to add to this. A lot of our bigfooty supporters are always vastly overestimating not only the team in general but individual players in it.

Kicking in general was a big problem today. So many missed targets, resulting in turnovers. You just can't do that against a team like Carlton

Frustrating game. A few concerns but nothing does my head in like our repetitive failures infront of goal. There was a period in the first half where we missed 4 kickable goals in 5-10 minutes, 2 of which didn't even get us a point. It's got to the point where I expect us to miss every time we kick from further than 10m. It's simply not good enough.

No argument from me.

What are your thoughts on Freos effort folks.

It happens! Bad losses just happen. We've been spoilt over the last few years. Today................................& next week I fear........................we have been cut up by a fast midfield where there is no let up. One goes off for a rest & an even better one comes on.

We have tagging midfielders. Not enough attacking midfielders.
That's where we struggle in games. When our best 3 midfielders are resting.
Perhaps it's time to free up Jack & Bird & just let them play & make McVeigh & Goodes do the tagging!

Losing is the key word, we weren't losing, we were being demolished. The sub is meant to create a spark in a tight contest, I don't think they're capable of turning a game like today.

It's just disappointing after such a promising start to the game.
